SO.. I've had to buy this twice..!
We bought this for my father in law to give to our daughter at Christmas, but we also bought gifts for him to give to our nephew.. so either he got confused or decided that this was better suited to a 4 year old boy than a 4 year old girl... Having had a quick flick through it before we passed it on for wrapping last month I knew that my daughter would love it ..So, after tracking down where the gift had ended up I bought it for a second time. There was a knock at the door a couple of days after Christmas when my daughter was in the bath (aka Prime delivery). I explained to her that Santa had just been cleaning his sleigh and he found this extra gift for her wedged in a gap. As it was no longer Christmas he couldn't wear his magic suit so he couldn't fly and he had to knock at the door. He was very, very sorry, but the wrapping had been damaged (hence not wrapped) but he really hoped that she enjoyed the book. (Not bad when on the spot I thought!) She thought this was brilliant.I think it is brilliant that a 4 year old can name the planets, knows that moons go round planets, planets go round the sun...This book has great illustrations, easy to understand text and captures the imagination of children. I will definitely be buying more from this range.Apparently my nephew (who is into superheroes) really likes it too.

Beautifully illustrated, nice book
Just the right level for children up to 8. Beautifully illustrated. Great price. A great start for any budding astronaut, astrophysicist 😁, or just to have fun

Great book to introduce space
I bought this for my three year old, who is not precocious, to introduce the concept of space. This is an excellent book, he can name all the planets and loves that there are volcanos on Venus and Mars. The photos are great. As one review has mentioned, it is US centric, but I just skip over that. What is great for me is that he will be able to use this book in the future when he can read himself. I have had no issues with the pages at all, as these are books we sit and read together and talk about what we can see and he asks me questions. I would highly recommend this series of books, we have the amphibians and reptiles one too, as he was very interested in these also and the pictures were great and very useful for introducing life cycles of those animals.

Great book for children!
The book arrived as expected in immaculate condition. The images are stunning and there are lots of information explained in a style suitable for children. It can help children (and adults!) learn accurate space facts in a visually attractive and well organised way. I love that in some cases they include how to pronounce certain things, as it builds up with the concept of accuracy or real facts that I think the book intends. My child is enjoying very much reading the different sections/chapters of the book and is very proud to tell others about what they are learning. The only negative thing is that soon after it arrived, a couple of pages were detaching from the spine of the book, and we had to mend it. Still, it has been our first purchase of the National Geographic First Book series but will definitely not be the last one. I highly recommend it for children who prefer non-fiction reading content.

Good info, spoilt by cover.
Not sure whether to award 3 or 4 stars. Book looks inviting and encouraging for my grandson, but is spoilt by the label on the front. "Little kids first big book" etc . It stands out more than the book subject. Boys growing up don't want to be called "little kids" the label should be either on the back, or one that will peel off.

Absolutely love this book!
The media could not be loaded. The book is very well written, easy for children to read and understand. Bright colors, big pictures. The children are absolutely happy.

I love it and it is also a hit with my ...
I love it and it is also a hit with my 5 and 3 year olds. The pictures are large, clear and colourful, and there are very few words on each page, so it is suitable for this age group of 3-5 year olds. The information is kept to a minimum - just the basic facts which are sufficiently amazing and wondrous to this age group, nothing too advanced or difficult. The only thing was gravity - I was a little surprised when I turned a page and found that it was about gravity...and I had to pause for a second wondering how I was going to tackle this topic with my kids and not entirely certain that I should introduce Newton at this stage - I managed to put across the basic concept (to an extent!) to them - do we stay in the air when we jump etc...and they wondered about that, shouted "no, we fall!" and found this fact to be funny and exciting. The pages are thick and glossy, and the book is large and chunky - lovely to look at.
