Question 1

Can anyone suggest which brand of AA batteries to use with these? Some brands appear to work better in different devices it seems.

Accepted Answer

Herobeams contacted me asking if I had received my lamps and what I thought of them I explained the issue with rechargeable batteries and this was their response

We suspect this is actually a physical issue, rather than an electrical one, where the positive "nipples" on some brands of rechargeable batteries are slightly too short and not quite touching the contacts in the battery compartment.

We are working on a design change to combat this problem, but in the meantime the situation may possibly be resolved with a sliver of tin foil.

Question 2

what is the total operational time from fully charged batteries? 1 Hour? 2 Hours? 3 Hours?

Accepted Answer

Depends on capacity of battery. I used some old rechargeables - used it during the evening then left it on from about 10pm to 7am and it was still quite bright. Say 12 hours but these were old rechargeables so you can probably get a good deal longer.

Question 3

How 'warm' is the light? does it have the blue hue of some leds or is it more like a light you would have at home?

Accepted Answer

Its a very bright white light. I would say it is brighter than the lights at home. I used them at night in my 4 berth tent and it lit it brilliantly. Also had two others that we used by the beds and these were a lot lot dimmer. They were a lot better than what I was expecting. Although I used both at the same time I could have got away with just using the one. Hope this helps.

Question 4

can you dim the latern if need be? Does it have brightness settings

Accepted Answer

There is no button for this but you can effectively control the output by pushing the top containing the COB elements part-way down into the base.
