Don't listen to the detractors
This is an excellent dropspreder I have had this spreader for about 4 years and it still looks as its just come out of the box the spring looks like new no rust the shaft works perfectly and again no rust and the feeder regulator works as it should it's not the greatest of designs but as long as you are careful as you spread it generally stays put, my grass has never been better I don't get how people have had problems with this product you just need to adopt some maintenance every time you use it and DON'T! overfill the bucket with whatever you are using as I guess it puts undue pressure on the spring and shaft assembly which could lead it to snap and damage the pin and the hole where the spring fits on to you must also ensure that you wash and dissolve all the product out of the machine thoroughly and then ensure you dry everything out of the machine just leave out the sun or use a vacuum cleaner with a blow function to extract all the water out, the product and water is a lethal combination as mixed together it becomes highly corrosive and then beginning and end of season ensure you lubricate the spring and shaft assembly with a silicone lubricant I have never had a problem with this spreader 4 years and going strong

After a morning of frustration abandoned the GARDEN GEAR lawn rake and returned to my 20+ year old Qualcast lawn rake with good
I had โemployedโ Green Thumb to maintain my newly laid lawns for 2 years โ a big mistake โ at the end of the second year one area of lawn was a complete bed of moss. I sacked Green Thumb and in October, resolved to do the job myself. I purchased from Amazon:- SCOTTS Evergreen complete lawn food weed and moss killer, SCOTTS evergreen drop spreader and GARDEN GEAR powerful 2 in 1 lawn rake and scarifier 1300 watts. Using the SCOTTS drop spreader I laid the lawn food/moss killer as per the instructions. The spreader was very precise but care is required not to overlap or leave a gap. Within two days the moss turned brown and then black. I left it for two weeks. Now for the GARDEN GEAR lawn rake. On the parts of the lawn where there was little or no moss this machine performed well, I was initially impressed but concerned about tackling the mossed areas. It proved to be a disaster and very disappointing. The rubbish picked up by the tines dropped in front of the mouth of the basket. Tried various height settings โ no improvement. The basket itself is very fiddly to get on and off. I have not yet tried the scarifier. After a morning of frustration abandoned the GARDEN GEAR lawn rake and returned to my 20+ year old Qualcast lawn rake with good results. I will not give up on the GARDEN GEAR product and give it another go in the spring.

Good garden fertiliser spreader
I had one of these for years - it worked really well and enabled me to use other lawn products that need a spreader. I have about 400sq metres of grass - several areas around apple trees, the front and back gardens but none that are square or rectangular in shape. This spreader enables me to easily get around the edges and obstacles and is pretty good at given even spreading of the granules. Dead simple to put together, it is easy to push about even with a full hopper. It has a couple of indicators that help you keep the spreader aligned to the wheel marks from the previous run, but i sometimes put a block of concrete onto the handlebars to give extra weight to make the wheels give a good indentation. Make sure clean the spreader properly before winter and put oil on the wheel axle - that is what fouled up my earlier model. Does the job and recommended.

seems fairly robust
I bought this after reading reviews of many products, including ones costing much more. Although not perfect, this one seemed good value compared to others, so i bought it from Amazon, knowing there would be no problem if i needed to return it. It seems quite robust and was easy to put together. I'm not using Scotts fertiliser, but i did a test on a small area using a weighed amount of fert, and found that an average strolling pace delivered the right amount. No dumping at the end of each row. I washed it carefully and took it inside to dry, and will follow other reviewers' suggestions by removing the axle in autumn to store that part indoors to avoid rust. I'm very happy in all ways except about the hassle factor of storing the axle indoors. If it were more longlasting i would give it 5 stars.

Broke on second use but easy to mend
I used this spreader for the second time this morning. The first time it worked well. Today I was half way through when the spring broke away from the hopper. This left it permanently open. This was disappointing after paying ยฃ70. I fixed a sturdy self tapping screw into the tiny hole where the original fixture was and lifted the hook at the end of the spring up on to the screw. The mechanism now works again and is probably more robust than it was originally.

Scotts EvenGreen Drop Spreader
Mine arrived safely within the 3 โ 5 days Amazon delivery, despite all the items rattling loosely within the makerโs carton. Having previously read all the Customer Reviews and noted complaints about wheels getting jammed and even breaking off corroded axles within in a year or so, I would not have bought this spreader. But not finding an alternative that would shut-off supply at the end of a run, I decided to buy this one and before using it, do what I could to minimise possible problems. Realising that however thoroughly the spreader is rinsed with water after use and left to dry, dampness and feed granules can still remain in inaccessible places and cause corrosion in the long term. With this in mind I decided the best preventative treatment after rinsing the hopper, would be to withdraw the axle completely and clean it thoroughly and apply some WD40. I notice the instructions recommend doing this for thorough cleaning and lubrication prior to re-assembly for longer spreader life, but do not explain how. Personally, I found it not too difficult. Note: the drive wheel end of the axle has a pair of fins for the wheel to lock on to. Similar fins are also located further along the axle, which engage with the feed agitator. After removing both wheels and grasping the drive wheel end of the axle, pull it firmly outwards while rotating it slowly at first to allow the interior fins to align with exit slots in the plastic bearing. Once through, further withdrawal is easy. During reassembly the feed agitator will probably need to be slowly rotated by hand until the fins engage with it for insertion. The โfine calibration lineโ on the bottom of the hopper does not run from end to end as expected, but exists on just one of the teeth, positioned third along from the spring, depending which way you are looking at it. If not seen, open the setting fully. To make the arrows on the top of the hopper easier to see, I filled them in with white. Assuming my maintenance plan works, I look forward to several years of blissful operation!
