⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars – Truly The Gold Standard!
I’ve tried dozens of whey proteins over the years, and this one is in a league of its own—no wonder it’s the most trusted brand around. Mixability is perfect: it dissolves completely in seconds, no lumps, no gritty residue, and never clumps even if you just shake it quickly with water. The texture is beautifully smooth and creamy, never watery, powdery or chalky like cheaper alternatives. Effectiveness is outstanding—it makes such a difference to my recovery; I get far less muscle soreness after training, and it’s so easy to hit my daily protein goals whether I have it post‑workout or as a snack. It also sits really well in my stomach—no bloating, no heaviness, no weird after‑digestive issues at all. Flavours are rich, consistent and never overly sweet or artificial, and it works just as well stirred into oats, yogurt or baking as it does shaken up. For the quality, purity and results you get, it’s fantastic value for money—one tub lasts ages and works out much cheaper per serving than other premium brands. Hands down the best whey you can buy, I’ll never switch!

The King of Whey: Best Mixability, Quality, and Naturally Occurring Muscle Fuel!
Why I Swear By It: After trying countless protein powders that were chalky, clumpy, or upset my stomach, I settled on ON Gold Standard years ago. It remains the #1 selling whey protein globally for a reason: it offers premium quality, great flavour, and legendary mixability, making it the perfect post-workout fuel. The Gold Standard Benefits (The Pros): Elite Protein Blend (WPI Focus): This powder utilizes a superior blend, primarily featuring Whey Protein Isolate (WPI), which is filtered for high purity, resulting in a protein-dense serving (around 24g per scoop) with less fat, sugar, and lactose. Unbeatable Mixability: This is its defining feature. It dissolves perfectly with just a few shakes in a standard shaker bottle—no clumps, no grit, and no need for a blender. It mixes seamlessly into water, milk, or even oatmeal. Naturally Occurring BCAAs and Glutamine: It provides over 5 grams of naturally occurring Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) per serving. These are the critical building blocks that quickly initiate Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS), meaning faster and more effective muscle recovery after tough training sessions. Effective Recovery: I consistently notice a quicker bounce-back and reduced muscle soreness when I use this immediately post-workout. It feeds the muscles exactly what they need, fast. Low in Unwanted Macros: It's kept consistently low in sugar (usually around 1-3g) and fat, ensuring you get maximum protein purity in every serving. Final Verdict: The Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey is, quite simply, the benchmark for performance, taste, and quality in the fitness world. If you want a protein powder that dissolves perfectly, tastes great, and provides the fast-acting, naturally complete amino acid profile your muscles demand, look no further. A reliable, high-quality, 5-star essential for muscle building and recovery.

The best protein on the market
Arrived on time. Product tastes amazing and good value for money. I throw a scoop into my porridge and it dissolves easily or I take it normally with milk. Very good product

Good product, could do with more powder in the barrel
Not sure why they create such large packaging and then only half fill it. The product is good, flavour is great. However, just feel a little conned on amount in the barrel - especially for the cost. If it was cheaper would be inclined to buy again. Next time I will research alternatives. But product is good.

A Reliable and Great-Tasting Protein Powder
As someone who has tried a variety of protein powders over the years, I keep coming back to Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey, and for good reason. This product consistently delivers on quality, taste, and performance, making it a staple in my fitness routine. The Double Rich Chocolate flavour is smooth and enjoyable, without the artificial or overly sweet aftertaste that some protein powders have. It mixes effortlessly with water or milk, creating a creamy texture without any clumps, which is a huge plus when you’re in a rush or don’t want to deal with a blender. From a nutritional standpoint, each serving provides 24 grams of high-quality whey protein, along with naturally occurring glutamine and amino acids that aid muscle recovery. This makes it an excellent post-workout choice, helping to reduce muscle soreness and support lean muscle growth. The low sugar and fat content also make it a great option for those watching their macros. Another standout feature is its digestibility. I’ve had issues in the past with protein powders causing bloating or discomfort, but this one sits well with me, even when taken daily. It feels light yet filling, making it easy to incorporate into my routine without any negative side effects. In terms of value, the 899g tub with 29 servings is reasonably priced for the quality you’re getting. While there are cheaper alternatives on the market, few match the consistency and effectiveness of this product. Overall, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Protein in Double Rich Chocolate is a fantastic choice for anyone serious about their fitness goals. It tastes great, mixes easily, and delivers solid nutritional benefits, making it a reliable go-to for muscle recovery and overall performance.

Mix with Skyr for a chocolate ‘mousse’
I have this mixed with Skyr (half a scoop of powder to 150g Skyr) with granola, soaked chia seeds and fruit, and it tastes like a light and creamy chocolate mousse. Mixes with a spoon quickly with no lumps. Definitely recommend for a high protein breakfast, snack or dessert.

Tastes great!
As an avid fitness enthusiast, I have tried numerous protein powders over the years, and I must say that Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey stands out for several compelling reasons. Firstly, the taste is exceptional. Unlike many other protein powders that have a chalky aftertaste, this product offers a smooth and enjoyable flavor that makes it easy to drink. Whether you choose the classic Double Rich Chocolate or the refreshing Vanilla Ice Cream, you won’t be disappointed. The mixability of this protein powder is also worth noting. It blends seamlessly with water, milk, or any other beverage, leaving no clumps or residue. This is particularly beneficial for those who are always on the go and need a quick and convenient way to consume their protein. In terms of nutritional content, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey provides 24 grams of high-quality protein per serving, which is ideal for muscle building and recovery. The inclusion of BCAAs (Branched-Chain Amino Acids) further enhances its effectiveness, helping to reduce muscle soreness and improve overall recovery time after intense workouts. Moreover, the low sugar and fat content make this protein powder a suitable choice for those who are mindful of their macros. It supports a lean muscle gain while keeping unnecessary calories at bay. One aspect that sets this protein powder apart is its digestibility. I have a sensitive stomach, and many protein supplements have caused discomfort in the past. However, I have experienced no such issues with Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey, which is a testament to its high-quality ingredients and careful formulation. Finally, the value for money is impressive. Given the quality and effectiveness of this product, it offers excellent bang for your buck, especially when purchased in larger quantities. In conclusion, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Muscle Building and Recovery Protein Powder is a top-tier choice for anyone looking to enhance their fitness regimen. Its great taste, superior mixability, and impressive nutritional profile make it a reliable and effective supplement for achieving your muscle-building and recovery goals.

The Cathedral of Chalk, the Altar of Gainz
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5 - The Platonic Ideal of a Shake) Look. Let's not romanticise this. This is not a bespoke elixir hand-mixed by Swiss nutritionists on a mountain. This is the London Underground of protein powders: it’s ubiquitous, slightly gritty if you think about it too much, and it gets an astonishing number of people where they need to go, efficiently and without fanfare. The tub arrives with the reassuring thud of a canonical text. The foil seal parts with a crinkled sigh of purity. The powder itself is a fine, almost penitent dust—the colour of a faded academic robe. Mixing it is a brief, vigorous sacrament that results in a liquid with the texture of a very serious chocolate milkshake that has taken a vow of utility. The taste? It is precisely and honestly 'Extreme Milk Chocolate.' It tastes like chocolate's reliable, slightly dull cousin who works in logistics and always has your back. It is not an experience; it is a transaction. You give it water and a shake, it gives your muscles the alibi they need to recover from the crime scene you made of the gym. It works. It works like a spanner works. It is the fundamental, unsexy tool in the box. Five stars. My muscles have no opinion on terroir or mouthfeel, but they are deeply, structurally grateful. The whey, the truth, and the life.

Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard - One of the Best Whey Protein Blends
-------------------------------------- UPDATE 11 March 2016 --------------------------------------- I keep an eye on my reviews but lately, I have seen this happening often . I get a few votes up for a review and then quite strangely a down vote the same day, that really has left me wondering if some people are deliberately down voting reviews. I don't understand how Amazon moderators are letting this off. --------------------------------------------- I am compelled to write this review after seeing quite a few negative reviews calling it a fake or counterfeit which I find it quite misleading once again. I bought the 1lb pack to check the concerns raised that the packaging is mislabeled with a 23gram protein scoop. To all the concerned people, there is in fact 1lb Gold Standard refill pack with 24g protein per scoop. (Photos attached) Optimum Nutrition (ON) 100% Whey Gold Standard - 2 lbs (Double Rich Chocolate) is one of the best Whey proteins in the market today. Three things I liked about this product, the manufacturing is entirely done in the USA following strict US regulations, the grams of protein in each scoop and the taste. If you’re new to Protein Supplements, this is a quick overview of few major protein types that are sold in the market today. Most protein supplements that are in the market offer blends of different types of whey proteins. To make it easy, let me break it down for you. There are three types of fast digestive proteins, the cheapest is the Whey Concentrate typically a mass gainer with lots of carbs , then comes the more expensive Whey Isolate and then the most expensive Whey Hydro Isolate . Concentrate typically takes about 2-3 hours to digest, Isolates can be digested in your system within 2 hours, Hydro Isolates is purest form whey and can be taken even if you’re lactose intolerant - Hydro isolates can be digested within an hour and work best as Post Workout drinks. Basically, the price of your protein directly depends on the % of Whey Isolate or Whey Hydro Isolate present. There is also a slow digestive protein called Casein which is cheaper or almost the same as Whey Concentrate, treat this as a bedtime supplement as it takes about 6 hours to digest. What is OPTIMUM NUTRITION- 100% Whey Gold Standard ? ON 100% Whey Gold Standard is a multi-whey blend comprising isolates & concentrates as its main ingredients. It contains 24 grams of protein per serving, with a bit of fat, cholesterol, and lactose. Bear in mind, if you’re lactose intolerant, this is not for you unfortunately. Taste, Texture and Mixability It is not very sweet and mixes well with water and milk. I didn’t feel bloated and Double Chocolate flavour I’ve tried was good, and I will give 8.5/10 for the taste 9.5/10 for mixability Total score 9/10 When will I start seeing results? This is the bitter truth, Protein supplements would help you <20% to reach your fitness goals. Your everyday workout helps you about another 30% and the rest is your daily diet as to how you maintain yourself eating healthy. You’re not going to get fitter staying home and just having 3 protein smoothies a day. From somewhere I had once read, you don’t buy protein protein supplements till you are regular at the gym working out and eating healthy for at least 90 days. Once those two habits are accomplished, buy protein supplements, and you will see results. Are protein supplements necessary? This question is debatable but it all comes down to how much protein is in your everyday diet. If you’ve enough protein in your diet, no need obviously. From a personal perspective, I would avoid processed food like protein supplements any day, if I can consume enough protein through my diet (egg, milk, meat etc) Health Benefits/ Issues It is always advisable to take protein in their natural form (Milk, Egg, Meat, etc), but with a vegetarian diet that could be challenging. Rule of thumb with supplements is DO NOT go overboard - DO NOT take more than 2 scoops in 24 hours, but personally, if you’re not aiming for the Olympics, I suggest to start with 1 scoop a day so that you go easy on your body. In addition, you MUST drink a lot of water when taking protein supplements. From a lecture of Dr Tara Swart of MIT Sloan, your body requires 500ml of water for every 30lb (13.6 Kg) of your weight in a day to function normally. Smoothie recipe = 1 scoop (Chocolate) + 1 Avacado + Banana + 200ml Almond Milk + Ice Cubes in a Blender . PLEASE NOTE: Insufficient water intake can give you Stomach pain/ Abdominal Pain with protein supplements. NOT to be considered professional/medical advice. This review is based on personal experience. Protein supplements are to be considered with caution.
