Can I disable the timer?

Yes you don't have to use the timer - just turn on and off at the electrical socket when you want them on or off. The timer is optional

What's the distance from plug to the first set of lights?

Hi Isabella, just popped in the garage and plugged in and pulled out the lead in full, pleased to report nearly 3 metres before the first light, give or take a few cm’s for the plug and angle either side, it was from the plug on the work bench, so 280 - 300 cms for sure, lots of flexible options, hope this helps you,

Can I plug these into an outside socket?

Yes but the plugs stick out, see video..so the external socket cover won't close over.
