From the Author I particularly liked writing the parts about the team before it moved to San Francisco.  While in New York, the team established quite a history.  Delving into the archives to uncover some of those jewels brought me a great deal of joy. Read more About the Author Bill Chastain began his journalism career as a freelance writer shortly after graduating from Georgia Tech in 1979. Interesting for newer Giants fans
What we have here is an interesting compilation of events in Giants history and a few interesting things that a Giants fan should do and experience.Author Bill Chastain presents some interesting facts about the Giants history both in New York and San Francisco. 100 things Giants fan should know and do before they die is well written and the stories are concise, usually no more then one or two pages per story, event or thing to do.Unfortunatly there isn't much new information here that a seasoned Giants fan doesn't know already know or hasn't done. The book was helpful to me in recalling some of the minor things. The book in some ways is like a reference guide.I need to state that I have followed the Giants for forty plus years so my perspective about this book is going to be different them a younger person that has been following the Giants for a short period of time. If that's the case I highly recommend 100 things Giants fan should know and do before they die. but for the seasoned fan there just isn't much here.100 things Giants fan should know and do before they die is well written, edited well and a quick read. For the seasoned Giants fan this is about a two star book for a younger fan not as familiar with the Giants history like Markle's boner, the Spahn-Marichal sixteen inning pitching marathon or the Roseboro-Marichal incident and the Giants stars of yesteryear like Christy Mathewson, Bill Terry this is a solid four star book.

Mama Huhu
"Mama Huhu" literally means "horse horse tiger tiger". It's a Chinese idiom that means "so-so" or "not one or the other." This book is mama huhu. It's okay, but uneven. It's a medium Giant book. Sometimes, it is a lifeless reproducing of facts, like the Christy Mathewson chapter. Other times, it goes to the other fawning extreme. For example, the great Willie Mays is the main subject of five or six chapters, which could have been condensed to two or three. Also, the author can't seem to decide if John McGraw's intentionally tripping players is cheating or gamesmanship, and implies that John Roseboro absolved Juan Marichal of all responsibility for attacking Roseboro with a bat. Based on the facts presented, this conclusion is an overstatement. Sometimes, the book just failed to have its intended effect on me. I was looking forward to reading about the famous Gilroy Garlic Fries, but the author mentioned that people sometimes eat them off the floor. I know he intended this as a way of saying how delicious they are, but the image had the opposite effect. Still, the book is informative and can be a solid introduction to Giants lore. Some of my favorite bits were the Don Liddle "Well, I got my man!" quote and the Nenth inning section. Solid, but not spectacular.

Loved the book! Was a great read but the update is only up to the 2012 World Series Championship victory. 2014 is not included or updated in this version (or the version I received).
