OMG this mobo is amazing
OK, I know there is a lot of competition out there in the market of motherboards. There are absolutely better deals that can be found in regards to price to performance comparisons. Mother boards used to be cost conscious; now their prices are getting to extreme levels for those of you who are enthusiasts. If you are on a budget or want a board that has great performance, but won't hit your wallet so hard, this mobo might not be for you. With that said, if you have the budget, or if you've been saving for a computer build and you know what you want and you want to have options to explore now or grow into down the road, this board is AMAZING! If you are a gamer, get this board. If you want to explore water cooling, get this board. If you want to use plenty of m.2 drives rather than sata ssds, get this board. If you're into RGB and want plenty of configuration options, get this board. There are so many features, you won't be disappointed. And now for a few caveats. Scalpers have gotten bad. Not only do they scalp gpus, but aspect scalping mobos have become a thing. This board is already expensive enough. Scalpers but up the available stock and try to resell for $150-$600 over msrp. DO NOT BUY AT THIS PRICE! You can find much better boats for that price if you desire. But if you are patient, you will be able to find this board for msrp, so wait it out, purchase from a trustworthy source, and then enjoy all the possibilities this board brings. Next, the Armory Create software is a little buggy. It might be better to update your drivers one-by-one from asus website rather than using armory create, but I've noticed this isn't always the case for everyone. Personally, I feel Armory Crate comes with a lot of bloatware, and I found myself deselecting several programs during installation. But, whatever you do, absolutely upgrade your BIOS firmware. This board can handle DDR5 RAM at higher frequencies, but to utilize the XMP settings without compatibility issues, make sure you have the latest BIOS version. Updating is not as scary as people make it out to be, and it will ensure you have the latest security features and compatibility with the latest RAM. Another worthy mention is that I haven't upgraded my system in 7 years. The mobo I'm coming from is the old ROG z290 Maximus Code IX. It was a great board for the time, but that bugger is long outdated. Going from that board to this one is night and day. It cannot be stated how much of a performance boost this board allows for. But as there is such a huge leap in technology, I'll admit I'm a little biased because dang-near anything would have been a huge upgrade for me. TL;DR: If you have the money and want plenty of options and are an enthusiast, this board will be great for you; if you're on a budget or don't need all the extra functionality, there are much better options out there.

A bit too expensive for the features
For the most part this is a great motherboard, and it **** well better be at a $600 price point. Tons of thunderbolt, usb-c,usb 3 ports, wired antenna (though they switched to a much easier to use wifi antenna on the model immediately after this), great XMP support, same Asus bios as expected, Armory Crate and AI Suite are great (though for some reason AI Suite doens't work when Memory Protection is turned on), TPM support, 4 NVME connectors but that's where things start to suck. The only PCIE5 NVME slots "on" this board are actually on the PCIE expansion card, which is a complete waste for anyone who intends to use anything besides a GPU given there are only two PCIE slots. I cannot stress this enough - if you have any intention of using the onboard Intel Bluetooth adapter, you have to use the wifi antenna provided. The bluetooth adapter is absolute garbage without it. It took 3 hours of trying to understand why the connection was barely functional compared to a USB adapter with no antenna and thats why. Antenna is not optional. This motherboard will also cause tons of kernel crashes and other hardware IRQ issues until you finally install all the drivers and Windows updates, so good luck with that.

Great Motherboard Thank you
Perfect motherboard — it handles high‑MHz workloads with ease, and it pairs flawlessly with my Intel i9‑14900K. The overall size is great, performance is outstanding, and the functionality is top‑tier. You get plenty of USB ports (four in total) for Windows installation and extra peripherals. The LED display is a great touch, and installation was incredibly easy. Truly an excellent board.

ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero has serious 128GB RAM issues and works only with 2 memory slots occupied
It is strange that everybody here at Amazon reviews is praising this ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero motherboard, but only 2 people mentioned that it has 128GB RAM problems. I wish that I knew about this issue before buying this motherboard. This motherboard runs well and without issues with 64GB RAM using a pair of 32GB RAM modules (G.Skill Trident Z5, Kingston Fury Beast, etc.), but has 128GB RAM stability issues and problems, and even Kingston Fury Beast RGB Black 128GB (4x32GB) is failing MemTest86 as a full set, regardless of being listed in ASUS QVL for 128GB RAM usage. It looks that ASUS was in a hurry to release this next generation motherboard and didn’t even bother to test it completely for stability at full 128GB RAM capacity, which they claim this motherboard has, but in reality – it doesn’t and it can’t work with full 128GB RAM, i.e. with all 4 memory slots occupied. So, for all those extremely happy customers who are running 64GB RAM and praising this motherboard – good luck upgrading it to 128GB RAM, because you are going to need it. Unless somebody wants to have the same issues and headaches attempting to run 128GB RAM with this motherboard, I advise you to stay away from Z790 series, regardless of what ASUS technical support would say regarding BIOS updates, because they aren’t going to solve it, according to my husband. What a shame that ASUS misrepresented their product and in doing so forced my family to waste our time and money on this defective motherboard.

My Impeccable Hero.
I purchased this motherboard and have been using it since it was first released. I have had problems with installing new memory, but the problem was not with the motherboard. It was with me. I did not make the setting changes that was necessary in the bias. I've had no problems with this board. It is excellent fast. Have everything that a gamer needs on it i am very satisfied with it even after a year of use. Every time I decide to upgrade, I look for something better. But considering what's out there that is very hard to do. So I decide to keep it. I am very satisfied with it. Especially for the price, it's hard to beat

The ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero has been nothing short of amazing in my build, paired with an RTX 4090 and an Intel i9-14900K. This motherboard delivers top-tier performance, excellent power delivery, and a rock-solid BIOS that makes overclocking a breeze. The connectivity options are outstanding, with plenty of USB ports, Thunderbolt support, and WiFi 6E for seamless networking. The build quality is premium, and the aesthetics complement any high-end setup perfectly. I was lucky enough to grab it in near-new condition for just $250, and at that price, it’s an absolute steal. If you can find this board on sale, it’s 100% worth the investment.

ASUS Hero lines are going to be best of the best for any given generation.
I have always used ASUS motherboards and so I am very familiar with their lineup. While looking through MB's, I was lucky to see a pricing update while looking over Maximus Hero's product page. Amazon Warehouse had just added 50ish refurbished boards for incredible prices. Had a mixup with the carrier before finally getting my hands on it. The board I received was missing the manual(and if anything else not already mentioned, it was nothing that was necessary.) It was practically in new condition, and I have come to trust amazon warehouse purchases even though this turned out to be my first warehouse purchase that resulted in a return. Do not let this deture you from possibly getting an amazon WH product that has been inspected and reduced in price. I am still in the return process, but as long as you follow directions and know that this is a process if it occurs, you shouldn't be disappointed if you receive a problematic product. In my situation, after backing up everything and preparing for new build, I carefully assembled board into my case and secured everything. As I try to handle the CPU area as least as possible, I had not yet removed the cover over the pins until I was ready to place CPU. Unfortunately, found a slightly bent pin in the middle of a quadrant and spent the next few days deciding how to deal with this. 1 slightly bent pin can be repaired fairly easily with a razor blade and steady hands, as long as you know what you are doing, but with this being a refurb, and the pin being in the worst possible spot for potentially fixing myself, I ultimately opted to return. I cannot attest to whether this would have even caused issues or not, but I do know that I had not had chance to finish build and attempt first boots, so there's a chance I run in to another issue and then question if the pin I hoped I fixed was really fixed or not, as I had no prior data for successful boots. I felt I should submit this review, even though it pertains more to these kinds of issues that can potentially happen for us PC builders, the aftermath, and as objective of a review as possible. I was able to get this board for roughly 380 through amazon warehouse, and having never had any issues taking this kind of risk with used items, I felt it was worth the gamble. I doubt I will be able to find this board again for practically new condition, at this price, and that sucks. But with the price of all PC builder parts increasing more and more, this lineup is pretty much out of my price range with the 700 series introduction. So if you are in the same boat, take my review as whether trying this route to potentially save money is worth it as a yes. Just make sure you know what your standards are for each part you are willing to attempt buying used, and you should be fine, even if issues arise. I am currently waiting for my return process to finish, and I will update with the results when I find out. I felt this board has value even with the bent pin, and should definitely be fixed by someone who is capable and has right tools. I left a small notice inside of package to try and speed up return inspection by describing bent pin and where to find it, so even though the ToS for returns did not mention to do this, I felt it would speed up/ease a return for a refurbed product.

Amazing motherboard 👍
I absolutely love my new build. I did return the first board cuz I saw there was an issue with it but I was wrong... it was just an issue in settings. It took almost months to get the refund but I am very happy I got my money back. I did reorder the same board and installed in my build. Everything working perfectly it's a high quality board and also very pretty. I'm very happy with Asus and the amazing return policies of Amazon. Thank you so much!

ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero WiFi6E
