These are amazing. My grandkids love using them to pick up the black walnuts in the yard.

Works great for Sweet gum tree
Fills up with sweet gum balls pretty quick. The sweet gum balls clump together making a bit harder to empty. However I do NOT feel this is a design issue. It is just the nature of the gum balls. It is a never ending battle with these gum balls, but the tree is worth the headach.I found going over the area like a vacuum and a little pressure picked up the majority of the land mines. Errr gum balls. The included picture was about 2 minutes of use to fill. If you use for a sweet gum tree, keep the trash bag/can near by. I didnt use the bag this came with. Incould use thebfew extra steps to empty it ;)

Slightly better than a grabber
My backdoor neighbor across a wooded area has a sweetgum tree inside their fenced yard. Unfortunately, the sweetgum balls refuse to stay in their yard. Honestly, it seems most of their irritating spiny balls end up in MY yard, leaving me with the unending task of picking them up to prevent them from becoming missles when my yard is mowed. Last year I used a grabber to manually pick up each and every one of these menaces, leaving me to look for something better for the rest of my life--at least until I move or my neighbor decides to end the life of that miserable tree. Enter this product. The nature of these porcupine balls makes them a bit more problematic in the gatherer than simple nuts would be, but it works. It doesn't make the job simple or a pleasure, but it does help. I have to roll over the nasty balls several times, and then when I empty this gatherer, they're like to stick around. Now to find some way to make these banes of my existence worth something.

Good For Walnuts?... Yes and No...
A friend of mine posted a video of his Zozen Nut Gatherer and I decided I had to have one. I have a beautiful walnut tree in our front yard that while magnificent most of the year, it's the bane of my existence in the fall when the walnuts begin to drop.. I'm in my late 60's and raking them into piles then picking them up by hand is getting to be more than I can deal with. Seeing the video of his device gave me hope that my life was about to become easier.. I ordered one and today it arrived...Took me all of 4 minutes to assemble.. It's very well made and the materials are first rate.. Immediately I went out to my yard which has hundreds of walnuts on the ground in various degrees of decomposition.. Within minutes I had made my decision... First of all... while well made, the basket where the nuts end up is about 1/2 the size I was expecting.. It's kinda small.. Smaller than a football.. Meaning.. it fills up in seconds. It'll only hold maybe 8-10 walnuts before you have to empty it out.. Yes.. that does save you from bending over 6-8 times which is a plus, but that still means you're gonna have to be dumping frequently if you have hundreds and hundreds of nuts on the ground. If that was the only downside, the device would be worth buying.. However.. there's a problem that the wordage in their advertisement fails to address..If the walnuts are freshly fallen from the tree.. within maybe 24 hours, they pick up easily and cleanly and the world is a better place and your back can breath a sigh of relief.. However, if the walnut has started to decay and it's hull is soft or mushy, they do not pick up as easily and more often than not they'll get stuck in the wires and you have to physically pull them loose (nasty) or dislodge them with your foot or bang the device on the ground which causes the other walnuts in the basket to fly out.. In my yard, literally 70-80% of the walnuts have decayed just enough to make the pick-up problematic. My opinion.. . if you have the time to watch your walnut tree and immediately go out and collect newly fallen nuts... the device is dang nice to have and worth the money. Sadly.. I can't do that. My life is too busy to sit by the window and watch walnuts drop. I'm returning mine. At some point, I may reconsider buying another, but for now I'll continue to rake and pick them up by hand like our forefathers..

Works for SweetGum balls!
This works incredibly well for picking up those spiky sweetgum seed pod balls, Mother Nature’s barefoot torture device. Easy, simple, fast - you can gather them up without raking or messing up your lawn. So grateful for this tool!

Surprisingly effective
We were very pleasantly surprised at how well this works! We have 3 giant sequoias in our yard, and our neighbors have a giant sequoia and 3 fir trees that partially overhang our yard, so we have a LOT of cones. The sequoia cones are very hard and dense and are closed (more like a lumpy ball than a pine or fir cone), they range in size from 1-1.5" around and 1.5-2" long. This thing is excellent at picking these cones up and saving our feet and ankles when walking through the yard.It is not nearly as good at picking up the fir cones (.75-1" around and 2-3" long) which are much lighter than the sequoia cones. The fir cones aren't as much of a problem for walking around though since they are smaller and lighter and give when stepped on. We bought this for the sequoia cones, if it had picked up the fir cones as well, that just would have been a bonus. The outlet on the end is very convenient for dumping straight into a bucket or our yard waste bin, and definitely makes the task of cleaning up the cones much quicker than if we had to separate the wires and shake them out.I saw reviews before purchasing this that said the telescoping handle wouldn't stay at the desired length, but we have not experienced that issue.I would definitely purchase this again.
