High quality emergency food
A little on the stale side this time but still good tasting. It is mislabeled though. If you are a hundred pound waif, this is three days of food. For the average man, engaged in hard work, it's one day. You can't eat these long term but short term these have three important qualities. First, you will actually eat them. They are good tasting and are in fact, in danger of being snacked upon. By good tasting I mean they are superior to the average commercial cookies but better nutrition, lol. Eating them is satisfying due to high caloric intake. They are also, more fat and less sugar. This is important stuff as higher sugar intake will cause insulin spikes and hunger pangs. Second, they take up minimum space and weight. You could easily stuff a weeks worth of food in a pack and carry it with no problems. And lastly, they are not the death sentence, dehydrated foods are. Water, not food is usually the determining survival issue in an emergency. You can live weeks without food, barely two days without water. If you dehydate your body with freeze dried foods you have no water to rehydrate with, you will live hours under stress. Ironically, these are concentrated calories and don't waste space with air like dehyrdrated foods do unless you grind them to powder. If you have no water, MREs are a far better choice. You can live off the moisture in most of those foods. It's a trade off in weight and space. These food bars are a food of last resort. However, if you enjoy being off the beaten path, hiking or whatever, having three days of food in case you get lost will save your life. To be clear, that means three of these packages...not one. People need roughly 10 calories per pound a day, when not under stress. But under stress, add 1000 calories...perhaps 2.

Not bad for a 3 day survival ration
I got these to quality test and taste test for an emergancy kit I'm putting together myself. The quality is pretty good so far. The package came sealed and had no holes or openings. It deffanily looks watter proof to. They are also very recently manufactured to. Mine was made in March 2015 (last month) The dates are easy to read which I like unlike the confusing date codes on MRE's. It uses a simple date format like 3/15 with the expiration date right under neath the manufacture date that reads 3/20 or March 2020 which indicate it's five year shelf life. It looks like one bar (3 cubes) is supposed to last you one day. One cube has 400 calories equaling 1,200 calories per bar. They also got lots of vitamins & minerals. The only issue I see with the bars themself is the lack of fiber (2 grams per cube or 6 grams in a days ration) I think they would make a good edition to my survival kit and they don't taste that bad ether. They got somewhat of a lemony shugar cookie taste & texture but that tastes less sweet than a shugar cookie. The lemony taste is barley noticable when you first bite into it. It also doesn't make me thirsty all that much which is a good thing for survival food. The weight isn't to heavy. It's only a few ounces lighter than MRE's making them easier to carry. They are also half the size of MRE's. The only thing I realy wish they would include is a way to re seal the bag like with a zip lock or something making it more ideal for 3 or more days. I might have to re seal it in a zip lock bag to prevent it from being exposed to long. All in all they are decent survival rations and they are at a great price. Only payed close to $10 even with tax for one individual 3 day ration. I'll also be comparing this to the SOS and dartex survival rations which some say are very similar but with a different taste. I added some pictures to show actual size using a penny for size comparison. They are actualy a pretty good size for the money. I'll be buying these again.

Taste great!
I had these for a long time. I finally opened one bci was hungry and didn't want to spend money. So, technically I declared it a financial emergency for myself. Bc of unemployment rn. I mainly bought these for weather. Bc when ur in survival mode u just need to eat. Period. I bought these awhile back and put them in my emergency kitchen section. Didn't really think much about them until today on Friday Oct 18th. They are nicely packaged. They also have individual wrapping for sharing if need. I am not gonna share my food, nope. For others... They are a decent size. I don't taste dryness at all. Very crumbly surprisingly and easy to eat. Not rock hard like i was expecting. Bc when they 1st came they were heavy and u could probably hurt someone. Dont do that. The one downside is I wish it had a little bit more lemon. I like the quality and I am not necessarily gonna care about calories. Bc when ur hungry u dont.

Shut up and take my money!
I teach in "bush" Alaska, and am always looking for emergency rations to take with me hunting, ice fishing, etc. This year I'm in the Aleutians and we get very high winds and no-fly conditions for a week or more at a time. The only things flying then are the angels and the coast guard, which is for most purposes the same thing. I carry granola bars (good), Sailor boy pilot bread (the Alaska staple) and peanut butter (good but crackers are stale tasting unless toasted). Canned food and MREs are heavy, and MRE's are expensive. I just weighed 3 MREs that range from 18 ounces to 22 ounces, and are about 1200 calories each. This 3600 calorie bar weighed just over 24 ounces, far less than the 3 MREs required for the same number of calories. Survival situations in Alaska often require a lot of calories, as people tend to be wet and cold. This is a very low cost way to carry good tasting concentrated calories. I bought some of these bars and one of the three I ordered must have had a hole in it as it lost the vacuum seal. This became the one I taste tested. My wife, 2 children, and I all liked the bars, I thought they tasted like a vanilla wafer cookie, but with more of a lemon flavor than vanilla. My wife used to be a girl scout and says they taste like the lemon trefoil (shortbread) cookie. The lemon flavor is not strong, and these were sweetish, but not sweet enough to make me thirsty. I'm going to try a couple of days on these but I'm very impressed with the price and taste so far. It's pretty hard to get a day's worth of long-term storable portable food for this price.

If you like playing the lottery, you might like these
BLUF: I like this product as a food, but I really hate gambling with whether the packaging will be ripped or not when it arrives. Like many people have posted/reviewed, I have had ones where the packaging is not intact on delivery. Look, you're not buying a pack of Clif bars when you're buying these. The intention of this product is to be used as an emergency situation food source (boat ration, etc). As such, one should expect to be able to buy this product and shove it away into storage for a few years. And that is absolutely not possible if it arrives with the packaging compromised. Now, onto the food itself (since I had a few torn packages, I used them for testing). I ate only this stuff and water for a few days. Honestly, I find it pretty tasty. The vanilla is pretty light, but detectable. The lemon flavor is sometimes pretty sharp (pleasantly, citrusy sharp), and sometimes more subtle. I like the variation, to be honest; it makes it less uni-dimensional in flavor from bite to bite. It has a crumbly texture. Like others have stated...sort of like a cross between a cookie and a shortbread. I actually find it quite palatable. And I didn't starve myself or even drive myself to hunger before starting to test, so I would imagine it could only taste better once you're in a "when you're this hungry, everything tastes good" situation. Okay, this paragraph is very much "your-mileage-may-vary." Although the product is advertised to be non-thirst provoking, I'm not really sure how true that was for me. I still felt like I needed a mouthful or two of water after eating one of these. Mind you, that's not very much, so I'd say they're doing their job. Just be aware that it might not be completely non-thirst provoking for you either. For such a small amount, they actually seem to do a pretty good job of staving off hunger too, which I find to be a nice bonus (still somewhat stomach-growling hungry by next ration time, but no hunger pangs). Energy levels feel fine with my day-to-day living (which doesn't include intense workouts, btw). So if you were in a stranded-on-a-lifeboat situation, you would probably feel fine. If you're intention is to taking these and only these on a week-long camping trip, though, there's probably better options. Lastly, as far as nutrition goes, I'm fine with it. Some people are pretty horrified by the amount of fat and sugar it has. Once again...you're not buying Clif bars. These are not snacks. You're buying sustenance for emergency situations. In those situations, you want your fats and sugars, since those are your energy stores and immediate energy.

Packaging is not what it should be.
I ordered one pack to try it out before I stock up and sadly the first one arrived open. It wasn't torn or cut but the seal was opened on one of the corners which tells me they have a problem with how they seal they're packages. Even if it wasn't done while at they're warehouse it means that these don't travel well so if I needed to travel with more than one I would run the risk of these opening up and possibly going bad before arriving to my destination. I'm having another one delivered tomorrow to taste it as I did not want to try one that was already opened since I do not know who, how or where it was opened. I can say that it smelled like sugar cookies and I like the ingredients as well as the amount that comes in one pack. If the next one arrives properly sealed and I can try it without worrying about when it was opened I might possibly order more but I'm still worried about them arriving damaged. It cost me time and money to go drop them off to get returned and these aren't exactly cheap. If I have too I will find a replacement but I hope I don't have too. Alright so I'm adding after receiving the replacement and it arrived open as well. Looks like I'm going to go with another company. I really didn't want too but if you can't get me one single product to my home intact I don't feel comfortable making large orders.
