Awesome!
I absolutely LOVE this product. Before finding the Kool Collar, my dog couldn't run in the heat at all. I had to wait for dark to run her. Now we can go while it is still daylight. It doesn't completely keep her cool due to the rapid melting of the ice/warming up of the insert, but it gives her at least 20 minutes of not overheating. I have started bringing along a second insert, carrying it in a little cooler on my bike so that I can change them halfway. That gives us extra walk time. Well, run time, LOL... she likes to go!I prefer the insert to the ice. The ice is very bulky and my dog didn't seem to like it. Using it with the insert, she enthusiastically sticks her head through it when I hold it out. Happy dog! Oh, also, the collar is very lightweight, unlike some of those "bandanas" that are offered for dogs.UPDATE: The little ice inserts didn't last long - they leaked and became flat and useless. So I ended up using real ice, which worked once I figured out the right amount to use so that it wasn't too tight yet would have enough ice to last for at least 20-30 minutes. Now I prefer the ice as it did get her neck good and wet, promoting evaporation and thus, cooling. Here in Florida this product is invaluable. When I am planning on a longer run I bring some extra ice in a small fabric cooler, which works very well.

A Great Discovery
I recieved our Kool Collar today for our 65+ lb. Lab. The medium fits his perfectly. It is well constructed with mesh that goes against the dog allowing maximum coolness against the dog. I was able to use it immediately because of this discovery - when I put the cooling tube in the freezer I found it is THE SAME LENGTH AND THICKNESS AS AN OTTER POP. I crunched the Otter Pop a little to make it go around his neck when it was in the collar. He has had it on for 40 minutes and it still has some coolness to it; we are having a heat wave and it is 90 degrees in the house. Otter Pops are cheap in comparison to the gel packets available to buy. I will now start shaping the Otter Pops to fit the collar before I pop them into the freezer.I have a happy lab who is no longer panting all day to keep cool.

Useful, cools nicely - but doesn't last long enough
My dog was a little freaked out when I first put this on him. After a few minutes of panic & obsessing about it, he went right to sleep. He gets really hot, & I think this would be really helpful, especially if we camp/ walk somewhere hot/ out in the desert. I bought extra ice pack inserts for it - because after 30 mins the ice pack will melt - so you would need to rotate multiple ice pack inserts to keep the cool going. I've been really hot at night lately, & have worn it myself in desperation to cool down. It worked great. Size medium fit me & him perfectly - he has a 14 inch neck. The only thing with this is - you can't use this as a collar to attach a leash to. So I guess I will have to put a harness on him or find a thin collar to wear along with the Kool collar.I've been using this collar for a long time now & have been disappointed with how quickly the collar warms up. It only lasts about 15 minutes. It does help (in those 15 minutes) but I need a better solution for my tripod dog who loves to walk - but can't hold up in the heat. Looking into making something myself (back pack vest that I can stuff more ice into).

Handy, BUT...
I've only used this a few times.. So far: Awesome for quick 20-30 min walks, but yeah the ice tube will only about 20 min, which works for quick walk around the neighborhood on a hot day. So on that front, I do feel that this collar helps my dog feel a bit cooler, and thus does what it says it will do. It's pretty much useless, though for a hot hour and a half at the dog park—though I can't fault this product for not inventing something that stays ice cold for that long. What does?My two complaints (or two cents):1) The quality is such that it meets the bare minimum of requirements to make the thing work, and not a stitch more. I've read that the collar has fallen apart for some people after a while. I'll have to wait and see. Also the buckle is exactly like the kind you'd find dangling from a cheap backpack. This thing is a really good idea; you just wish the makers tried harder for the collar to feel like some extra thought was put into it as something that felt sturdy and special, especially for the $20-ish price tag.2) The collar makes your dog a walking advertisement, and not in a good way. With the tacky URL and logo splashed in huge lettering across the collar and random text filling in space in a lame font, it almost looks like something you'd pick up for free as a giveaway at a convention. Again, you really wish the makers put a bit more thought into the overall feel of the product. The materials feel a bit cheap, and so does the look of it, and the way it promotes itself on your dog. So on that front, I'm glad my dog can stay a bit cooler, but I feel guilty for making her look kind of stupid.

lasted about 2 weeks
Great idea and helped my dog but needs to be made out of a sturdier fabric. By the start of week 2 it was tearing on the side from sliding the frozen Kool Tubes in and out about every 1/2 hour on hot days. I took to my sewing machine and after cutting off the webbed portion with the clip I made my own out of a sturdier canvas fabric and attached the webbed ends with the clip. Had I known it was so flimsy I would have made one in the first place and just purchased the Kool Tubes for inside. Save your money!

Actually is very helpful!
I absolutely love this thing and so does my dog! When I got this in the mail it looked cheap and like it wouldn't last long or work! But it does, it helped cool my dog off all summer! She'd actually get very excited when I'd pull it out! I did not like the kool tube thing though, because like other people said, it cools down too fast then actually just doesn't help - maybe even hurts her further. So I stuffed this thing with ice, especially for long hikes or even if we were just taking a quick ride in the car on hot summer days. Helped a lot - I'd definitely recommend this!
