Demodex Shampoo for Treatment of Scalp Demodicosis, 6 Ounce

This shampoo is helping me -- a lo! I've had an itchy scalp for years, and rosacea, too. Nothing I've tried has helped; it just kept getting worse and worse. The other day, I read an article (http://jonbarron.org/article/mites-and-rosacea#.VTlRj5MapOY) that talked about studies that have shown that many rosacea sufferers have an overgrowth of the microscopic skin mites that nearly all of us have on our skin. I was a bit hesitant, since so many other products had failed to help me. But the article was written by Jon Barron, an alternative health researcher whose work I trust, so I decide to go forward. I ordered two bars of the soap, one for in the shower and one for my bathroom sink. I also ordered this shampoo, which claims to control these microscopic skin mites on the scalp. I've been using both of these these products for three days now. This is day four. I use the soap twice a day, once in the morning when I shower, and again when I wash my face just before I go to bed. I use the shampoo every day, when I shower. I'm following all directions as closely as I can, leaving the products on for a few minutes, etc. I noticed a difference immediately. Within a day or two, my scalp had stopped itching and had lost whatever those little bumps were that were making it itch! The soap is working too: The rosacea on my face is at least 33% improved. I still can't believe my eyes, when I look in the mirror. I would never say that either the shampoo or the soap are lovely products, but I was looking for something that works, and they do! And don't get discouraged! The first day or two, the shampoo hardly foamed up at all and left my hair feeling dry and heavy, like there was still soap in my hair. However, yesterday was much better. Perhaps the shampoo was removing residue from my previous hair-care products? I don't know, but this shampoo is foaming now, and my hair feels clean and more "normal" again. By the way, a little of this shampoo goes a long way, so I'm feeling more comfortable about the high price tag. But then, I'd have paid most anything for a product that worked, considering all the money I've wasted on products that don't! Like other reviewers have noted, the shampoo has a weird fragrance, kind of earthy and medicinal, but the scent is not all that strong or all that bad. And it's true that the smell doesn't linger. Also, I'm trying to be very careful about recontamination, so I'm changing my pillowcase every evening, before I go to bed. The improvement in how comfortable my scalp feels has been remarkable, especially in such a short time. The soap is working wonders on the rosacea, too. After all these years, these are the first products I've tried that have made any difference at all. I'm so happy that any negatives pale in comparison to the effectiveness. I was looking for products that work, and these are working great-- so five stars it is!

I ordered this for my itchy scalp and can’t believe how well this works. I truly have no more itching and am pleasantly surprised. Also, while it has a fragrance, it doesn’t last ling and is gone by the time I blow dry my hair.

Tried everything to stop itch and dandruff - nothing worked. Wasn't sure I had Demodex but I was desperate... I paid like $77 for this shampoo because I'm overseas. (Shows how desperate I was!) Anyway, it actually worked. No more itch, very little dandruff. Unfortunately it does smell like dirt. But small price to pay. I wonder if adding a little essential oil (perhaps lavendar) would work as a natural perfume? Has anyone tried this? Anyway, give it a go. I'll be repurchasing (but ahead of time to avoid hefty shipping fees).

This shampoo works very well to restore control over the demodex mite. Some commenters complain that this product does not cure the problem or completely rid one of the mite. The mites live on us naturally, you will never completely get rid of them. You can get them under control and be fine for a long time. Stress, illness and a weakened immune system are some of the things that can cause an overgrowth as your system can’t keep them in check. Most doctors are not educated about demodex mites leading to several products that don’t work. I thought I had scalp acne, as I do have cystic acne on my face, and the bumps on my head felt like the ones I sometimes get on my face. Several doctors told me it was probably some sort of fungus (I let my hair air dry so they likened it to a scalp that was wet for too long) and to use Selsun Blue shampoo. The medicated shampoos seemed to help for a few days before the problem was activated again. The bumps were painful & itchy and there was just itchiness all over. I got tired of the problem and started looking online to see what could be causing the problem. It’s embarrassing to scratch your scalp all the time. This is when I learned about demodex of the scalp and what overgrowth can do. I tried this shampoo, I used it daily for 2 weeks and could tell after the first use that it was working. I then used it twice weekly to keep things in check. When my bottle was empty, I didn’t order more. I would use any shampoo that I liked in between. Tea tree oil is helpful, so I mixed a few drops in a bottle of Scalpacin solution to distribute the tea tree oil and to dilute it. I used the salicylic acid formula as it helps to keep old cells from staying around…demodex mites like them. A clean scalp is also a deterrent for them. I recently reordered this shampoo as I needed something more than the tea tree oil. The directions say to lather, rinse after several minutes & repeat. I found this to be wasteful of the expensive shampoo. I wash with whatever shampoo to clean, then I apply the Demodex shampoo so it can do its job. I do this first thing in the shower so as to give it plenty of time to work. Then I rinse, and condition as normal – I’m careful not to get conditioner or styling products on my scalp. The first time I used their products, I bought shampoo, conditioner & face cleaner. I just need the shampoo and I use the extra suds to spread onto my face and neck and it works just as well. No need to buy 3 products. The shampoo does not have a horrible smell to it and it will go away as your hair dries.

During washing, I can mainly only smell the tea tree oil, which I don’t mind at all. It doesn’t lather well, so if you have thick hair, you will have to use quite a bit to coat your scalp. With the price point and small bottle size, that’s a bummer. After drying, my hair feels soft and looks shiny. Although, I can’t get over the lingering smell of sulfur that follows after my hair dries. It’s not too bad and partner tells me that it smells fine, but it’s definitely there for a few days..

For year I tried every product out there to fight what I thought was dandruff. I knew I was allergic to house dust and its mites. Dispute vacuuming daily I still needed claratiine-D. This stopped the sneezing but not the rash. I decided to try this to rid the rash on my arms. After the first use the rash went away. Then one day while watering the 40+ plants my husband insists on fill our home with, I noticed little red spiders on the heavier foliage plants. I looked this bug up and found it was a mite. Turns out that every time I touched these plants the mites attracted themselves to me. I would wipe my face or rub my arms and them are to tiny to see let alone kill since I couldn't see them without my reading glasses. Like dust mites they eat our dead skin and burrow into broken skin from scratching. After 33 days I had relief. After 2 weeks I had no scaling. I use it 1 a week to keep it under control but you need to make sure you get deep to the scalp and your ears. The back base of my head was the worst. I told my husband not to bring anymore plants home but that just flush over his head. So I will continue to smell like sulfur (which he doesnt care for) instead of sweet flowers. He has dandruff so bad he scrapes his scalp with a butter knife. I've tried to get him to.try this product be he says he would rather itch them smell like a rest station. The original formulation of this product some years ago was okay. It was a little lumpy, smelled strongly, didn't lather all that well, but seemed to work well against demodex mites. In the current formulation (late 2025), there are fewer active ingredients and a high level of microplastics have been added, presumably for shine and smoothness. The shampoo doesn't work on mites nearly as well as before. Furthermore, microplastics can irritate the scalp and interfere with the scalp’s natural balance. Little is known how they accumulate in skin pores and what long terms they may cause. This product is better off avoided until the formulation is made safer and the higher level of active ingredients is restored.

Like so many other people who have commented on this product, I have also had an extraordinarily itchy head with extreme hair loss for months. I am a 37-year old woman, so losing my hair has been a huge issue for me and has affected me tremendously. I used to have super thick hair, and it has decreased by at least 50%. After extensive research, I found out about demodex mites. Since I have had a red face for about a year now, I was 100% convinced I found the issue. I was even more excited to find this product with amazing reviews. Even though it was quite expensive, I figured it would be worth every penny if it stopped all my problems. So, I used it for the first time last night, so perhaps it hasn't been long enough, but most positive reviewers said they felt immediate results - well not me. I put it on and it began to itch like crazy, so I figured it was working and the mites were going bonkers. It itched a little before I went to sleep, but the main issue is ALWAYS during the day. Well, it's the next day and my head feels exactly the same. The same itch and the same creepy crawly sensation. I hope hope HOPE that with more use it all begins to go away and my hair begins to grow back, but for now....no relief. The ONLY plus is that my hair looks very pretty today, it just smells awful.
