Surprisingly good.
I set this up with a 4 channel mixer with some basic built in affects. I use it at home for acoustic guitar and mic. I had a fishman solo which at 10 yrs old has become unreliable, I'm not happy with that. This Alto has really surprised me . Plenty of power, and the sound is great. I turn the EQ to off and use the EQ in the mixer, this gives me very nice sound. The mixer gives me some reverb, I use a chorus pedal with the guitar. The mixer is an Alesis 4 channel. I am actually considering buy a 2nd one since the blue tooth works so well. Very pleased overall.

Cost to Performance is Excellent
Note about the video: this was at about 20% volume. Disclaimer: only used these speakers once for an outdoor party - used for about 6 hours total run time. No issues with overheating or degraded sound quality over time. What I like: Excellent clarity. Very good bass without a sub. Connecting to the speakers and pairing them was easy. Good bluetooth range. Started losing signal at about 100ft unobstructed. App is pretty easy to use and the presets are actually useful. Extremely powerful - I cranked the level up to about 50% and it was loud enough to drown out conversation from 80 feet away. What could be better: Self noise - Even at low volumes there is a very audible hiss coming from the speakers. Fine if you are in an environment that is relatively noisy to begin with but could be distracting in places that are very quiet and you try to run these at low volume. Bluetooth pairing to other speaker got slightly out of sync when I was walking around with my phone. I had to 're-pair' the speakers a couple times when I was moving about because there was a slight (like 20 or so miliseconds) delay in one speaker - cause a slapback type effect. Re-paring only took a few seconds but could be a show stopper if you are truly running a show from a bluetooth device and you're not stationary.

Exceptional so far. A lot of bang for your buck.
So far... Wow. Very impressive. I've used it as a front wedge for my vocals and guitar, mostly. Very clear and is plenty loud for the venues we play. The construction is solid as a rock. The audio controls are effective and the app is pretty easy to connect and use. If there were any negatives, it would be that the handle is on the same side as the "tilt back" side, making it a little cumbersome to hook up, adjust and get into position. Not a big deal. And the bass is a bit limited as you might expect from an 8" woofer, but still solid. Probably need a 10-12" version if you're putting bass or drums in it. I liked it enough to buy a second one. I think these might even work as tops with some decent subwoofers for small to medium venues. Will look at this product line in the future.

DSP is a gamechanger on these!
I purchased a TS408 recently mainly to use as a monitor in various scenarios. I DJ often but I also play gigs with various live music ensembles, and I wanted something that would be suitable as a convenient personal monitor so I could simply hear myself when playing with my own sound setup. For context I'm a professional musician, DJ and sound engineer who works at clubs in NYC where I have access to amazing sound systems, and I also play private parties at residences and rental spaces with minimal or no sound system. I bought a TS408 for the latter purpose. With regards to sound quality I'm highly critical and spoiled. And I don't like the sound of these as is. By default the Alto TS line sounds a bit harsh to me, with a difficult frequency band between 1.2Khz - 3.5khz where a lot of harshness seems to be apparent. I also own an Alto TS312 (Used to have two of these but one broke) and it's just what you get with cheaper speakers. There's a bit of muddiness in the low mids around 200-250hz. Highs are OK, not as rough as the low mids and high mids, but not exceptionally detailed especially when the presence of the problematic frequency bands take prominence. Why 4 stars still? Well price for one, this is a cheap speaker so I'm aware of my expectations here. But what did redeem this speaker for me was the DSP. I was able to notch out the frequencies that I didn't like and it made a huge difference in sound quality. It's still not amazing or even great to the point of completely surprising me given the price of this, but makes it functional for my purpose of having a reference speaker. It's totally fine for me playing live music, although as a DJ I don't think it gives me a very flat and honest sound monitoring experience, even with my tuning via the phone app. It does the job to help me monitor my mixing accuracy but not necessarily sound quality. But I've only used it as house parties so its fine for the purpose even professionally speaking. Other notes on this are that despite it being the smallest driver size PA style speaker you can get it still is quite large with significant weight. I also used to have a pair of Alto TX8 speakers and they were much lighter. Its a tradeoff for having a powerful amp built in. Bluetooth is a nice extra, and connectivity is standard with multiple ins and a link output. Overall Alto speakers are basic but they do the thing essentially. If you just want to have some sound these are a decent choice, but I do recommend investing more money if you are serious about sound and are considering purchasing a setup for regular events. I have bought 5 Alto speakers in total but eventually I've ended up upgrading. Still they work well to fill a space with sound at a great price. The DSP added into the new TS40X series really is a big step up tho, and puts this on a similar level as speakers in the $500 range, even though these are a notch below that in price.

Lil thumpers
I've had several Alto speakers and these are my newest ones. I've had the TX 12's, the TX'10's, the TX'8s, and the TS 10's. I've had VERY good luck with Alto considering they are a discount brand. I also have QSC K12's and EV's. I do DJ work, but mostly band stuff for my band as well as helping other bands with sound. The TS series is a great value in a solid speaker. Are they QSC quality, no. Do they sound really good and work night after night, yes they do. They sound very good and work every time. My last set of TX10's I finally sold to a friend because I wanted to upgrade to the TS series but after 5 years of continuous work they were still kicking. I use the TS 8's for stage monitors when space is limited. My band doesn't like IEM's so we run these little suckers. Great value, great sound. Wish they had handles on top like the TX series but no big deal. Buy them.

Worked erratically then stopped working.
UPDATE -- Alto responded to inquiry that to get a wired-line connection volume level comparable to the TS308, the speaker switch should be set to "MIC" rather than line -- and BTW don't worry about blowing it because there's a limiter. This works. Would have been nice for the info with the speaker or on-line to have SAID SO. My rating stands. Update to previous -- Here is my pending inquiry to Alto: In my jazz quartet I use three TS308s wired to a Yamaha mixer -- two as the main speakers and one as a monitor on or in front of stage. We now play regularly at a venue where nothing can go in front of the stage and it's too shallow for a single monitor. I wanted to buy another TS308 but they were no longer available, so had to buy a TS408 even though we don't use Bluetooth. I've found that to achieve the same modest volume level as our TS308 monitor, I need to set the level all the way to "3:00" (i.e., most of the way up) whereas the setting on any of the TS308s is only "10:00" (i.e., fractional). Until I found this, I'd posted on Amazon that the unit had simply failed. After going to your page I downloaded the Alto App. Aside from setting the speaker to "live performance" (which made no difference) it was concerned only with Bluetooth so was not help. Is this normal? Is this speaker sub-optimal? I ordered it Jan. 5 2024. Pls advise. (Have not yet heard back.)

Very good, very portable
Shipment was ok. It came packed in two nested cardboard boxes plus some polystirene. It is really compact and lightweight, it has a handle to carry it around. I tested the bluetooth pairing, it works very well. A recorded voice will come out of the thing saying "blutooth active" when pairing is done. The volume knob for the bluetooth channel does not work very well, sometimes you turn it a bit and nothing happens, than turn it some more and volume goes up, turn it back nothing happens. It looks like the knob is faulty. In the end I can manage to set the volume level I want, but it takes some tries. The channel volume knobs work well. There is a vibration at high volume when there is a lot of bass, I don't understand if it is just air going through the front panel holes or what else. You don't hear it at a distance, only if you stay close. I use it as a bass guitar amplifier for practice, even without a preamplifier. I can just plug the bass in the 6.5mm input, set the input mode to microfone (higher gain) and get pretty loud. With a preamplifier I use the XLR input and set the input mode to line (lower gain). I compared it with my other bass amplifier (trace elliot 715 150W) and they reach similar volume levels. How come my 150W bass amp reaches the same volume as this 1000W thing? Well it's because the bass amp has a high-efficiency 15" driver and a resonant cabinet, while the TS408 has a much less efficient 8" driver and a non-resonant cabinet, so it needs more power to deliver the same volume, so you cannot really compare the two power ratings directly. Keep this in mind if you are buyng this as an FSFR cabinet for your guitar/bass. I was looking for portability: the Trace Elliot is 35kg and needs to be carried by two people up the stairs, while the TS408 is 10kg and you can carry it around like an airplane carry-on baggage. UPDATE I used it to perform live on an small open venue because the mixer did not have enough channels to accomodate all the microphones and guitars, so I decided to stay out of the mix and just rely on the TS408 and hope for the best. Everyone (including me) was really surprised that this small cabinet, with a bass guitar directly plugged in the mic input, could be heard clearly with volume knob at 3/4.

Bravo top
Bravo !

Used speaker like new, no scratches and everything works fine
Used speaker condition was better than expected. No cosmetic issues, looks like new. Only thing missing was the power cord, which I didn’t mind because I have lots of spare ones that fit. Bluetooth connectivity, audio and app worked perfectly. The first try sounded clear and loud when playing a song, plenty of volume, great deal getting $100 off for just a missing cord that I already had. If you’re mixing board has EQ control, turn the EQ off via the app and never use it again.
