Works, Cell reception good, WiFi is weak, Router has reduced features, IP passthru works
I am replacing a trial LB2120 (LTE Cellular Modem) that was running about 5-25 Mpbs depending on available LTE bandwidth. Goal was to dump Comcast and avoid AT&T running into my house. I bought a < $200 Renewed M6 Pro, it is labeled for AT&T, I am using an AT&T SIM, and it found the APN without my intervention. Per current Amazon reviews, less than half give it 5 stars, almost a quarter gave it 1 star, some were very unhappy with the product. Given that the new units are almost $1000, why are the Renewed less than $200, where are they getting them from? I have worked with many peripherals of this sort, and this was one of the more difficult to configure, lots of reboots, configuration, and downstream effects to correct. That said in about 6 hours I brought it up in baby steps, and finally have the M6 integrated with my original Netgear 6700v3 (not a current device), and it is working very well. IP Pass Thru creates a direct feed to/from the 6700, with minimal effects from the M6. Some of the complexities are three User Interfaces > LCD GUI has very minimal features > The phone App has more features, but still not complete > Browser to 192.168.1.1 gets the most features Overall the features are dumbed-down from the Netgear 6700 type of device. > No reservations for DHCP address > It has port forwarding, but I didn't try it > The WiFi is weak, 2.4GHz couldn't make 40 feet of residential Weak WiFi may be due to small internal antennae. Aside from DDNS not working (it is getting the wrong IP address), the 6700v3 is working as well as it did with the Comcast cable modem. I am getting almost 100Mbs download, well above my usage goals. Update 4/24/2024 Unit is still working. It appears the default settings favor battery life over performance, a reasonable choice for a hotspot (and WiFi range is compromised by design). I am using it as a modem to a Router+WiFI, and favor performance over battery life. The best performance is to set the M6 "Power Mode" to "Plugged in" ... that didn't work with the USB-A power adapter that was delivered, and it gave a message about using the Adapter that was delivered (Netgear delivers with USB-C and Amazon "renewed" replaces that with a USB-A that won't support the "Plugged in Power Mode". It does work the a USB-C adapter. Over the M6 can be "made to work", like most things with this product, there are numerous weaknesses, but with time and web research, I have been able to get it to meet my needs.

Completely Unreliable
I purchased this along with an external antenna for work use when out in a fully air conditioned field office but away from a wired internet connection, worked great when it did, and provided our laptops and mobile phones a decent internet connection except one major issue: over the course of a workshift, I found that I would be forced to reboot or even on occasion force a factory reset as randomly this device would completely fail to provide an internet connection, regardless that the signal indicator showed 5G UC and always had full bars, I would still completely lose internet connection and unable to even load google on both our phones and laptops until we rebooted and/or factory reset the device. This forced us to take time away from my work to troubleshoot the device and this would happen at least 3 or more times per workshift. So not sure if this is just a defect with my unit, but seeing quite a few other reviews having issues too, I think it may be safe to say this renewed Netgear MR6500, you cannot depend on this device for work, and needless to say, i'd imagine this would be annoying for anyone who games online or does anything that needs a stable and constant internet connection.

A fantastic WIFI Hotspot that works on 5G and 4G networks seamlessly.
Alright, this thing was fantastic for the price point. I took this overseas for a few months and popped in a foreign sim card. As it stated, it was unlocked and the card worked immediately. I had it on both 5G and 4G LTE networks and it worked great. I used this for about 7 months and it held full charge each day. The WIFI range was better than expected for me. You can also set a pin on the screen to customize it to ensure your security of your WIFI network. I would recommend this to anyone that needs a portable hotspot that can take multiple devices at once. I had 8 devices at one time and it worked just fine.

Working well with AT&T Prepaid
I bought this for use in an RV and wanted the external antenna connections. A new one was $700 and under $400 for the refurbished device. Due to the 90 day refund window, I bought the refurbished item. It looks new to me and I had no issue getting it activated at the local AT&T store. Edit to add an issue with activation. This issue is not related to the device, rather a problem with AT&T. The day after I purchased a 12 month 20 GB per month prepaid plan, I could not connect and pull data. I returned to the AT&T store and the sales people couldn't help or determine what the problem was. I went home and called customer service to find a solution. They had to activate the Sim card again and it has been working well since then.

Works Great and Easy Setup
This little box arrived faster than I was expecting. The folks at my local AT&T store sent me home with a SIM card. At first I was thrown because while I’ve changed SIM cards in a lot of phones over the years, this device takes a nano SIM card. I could not see the performation on the SIM card initially to break it down from a regular SIM to a Nano SIM card. Once I figured that out setup was easy-peasy. Mine didn’t come with any directions and I’m an RTFM kind of person. The directions suggest that if I use it plugged in to remove the battery to help with heat dissipation. That’s a pretty bad design, honestly, and even without the battery in it I can feel some real heat from the device. So just an FYI for anyone who sets up first and reads the manual only when something goes wrong. I pressed the power button on the side for 2-seconds and it took a few minutes to power up, find a signal and enter the setup routine, all of which it did automatically. I only had to follow the directions in the touchscreen and I was online in no time. I’m only getting 30mbps up and 11mbps down from my second floor office which is more than enough for what I need. There is an external antenna made by Netgear just for this and it plugs into two cute ports that have doors covering them. I may get that to see how much it improves speeds if moving the device to different locations in my house doesn’t get a better 5G signal. It’s not bad for the money. It’s small, cute, and easy to setup and connect to my devices. I would have given it 5 stars from the start if heat dissipation was designed better.

I'm a bit disappointed...
I bought this device refurbished, and feel I got a decent warranty and a "properly functional" item for the price (at one third of retail), but there are some common functional issues many have reported, and it's likely why this one and many others are being returned. The device doesn't broadcast very far, even when plugged into AC power with the battery removed, and it gets quite hot at moments though not yet overly concerning, which seems to be a result of searching for less available 5G signals. Speaking of operation with the battery removed, there is no way to power off the device when plugged to AC power without a battery installed except to pull the plug. Maybe this was considered acceptable by the design team, but there is no documentation in the owners manual describing this use case scenario, and unplugging a sensitive electronic device for power off seems reckless/abusive of the device. Speaking of 5G I fail to see any speed difference compared to 4G under my useage patterns, and YouTube videos still sometimes lag/stall indefinitely (likely due to 5G cutting in and out). The touch screen and controls on the device are laggy which along with adult male sized fingers sometimes leads to inaccurate selections and further laggy response times as it stalls and/or restarts in order to engage said wrong selections. The device also continues to broadcast my SSIDs despite my repeated selection to not broadcast them, which I hope will be solved in a future firmware update. Overall I've decided to keep this device due to the lowered price point and it meeting most of my needs for a mobile hotspot, but I'm a bit disappointed that this is what's considered a flagship device. They have a long way to catch up to hardwired non portable routers.

Great. So it works as promised.
I have an AT&T unit I paid cash for and it is taking forever to get it unlocked. Why is it locked to begin with, I own it!! Anyway I need a secured connection when I travel (I am a software developer). So I ordered this unit which is identical to the one I own and put my TMOBILE sim in a boom, it works. Ethernet works great and WIFI signal is solid. You can adjust lots of settings for example WIFI strength so if you are in a hotel you can keep the signal basically in your room or boost so it goes further; I would say 100 feet. The connection is encrypted if you want and that is what I need so yeah for 160 bucks I solved my issue and I can now travel in a few days and still do my work. The important part of this unit is the ethernet port. In my line of work some of it needs to be absolutely security with ethernet and this offers that just like you were on home internet. With ethernet, you can also plug into router as a backup for your home

Going from a Knighthawk M1 to a M6 Pro refurbished this will be 1 of 2 reviews.
If i can figure out how to attach a photo i will. First Prime sucks now and package came a day late because they sent it usps. i went to post office to see if it came in this morning. It did the box had been crushed and was split open. So i opened it the rest of the way just to see there was no packing material in the packing box and the little box inside holding the m6, batter, cable was all loose rolling around in the packing box. no paperwork no instruction. So and if you get one of these i recommend you take it to an ATT Store. So the fun part. We plugged it in and it gives an error to plug it in with its cable. It came with wrong cable and charger about 80 bucks later it powered up. Just to find out there was a password protecting it. So ATT did a factory reset 3 times for it to be reset for the many things corrected. I was at ATT Store for about an hour so bring some popcorn. i will give another review about it in 30 days or more. Everything seems to work so far with that rough start. I'm currently giving one star for delivery and it not having right parts with it or info on how to unlock password to use it.
