Well-Made/ Great Value/ Effective - Scalp Massager
Perfect, for my needs - I have thus far, not found there to be any issue with this in use. I've used scalp massaging brushes for decades. I'm a Mediterranean-Celt, with combination skin and a problem scalp. I get small patches of psoriasis on my scalp, caused/ aggravated by build-up of dirt, sebum, dead skin cells & random bits of fluff that ends up in my hair, I think from fleecy bed-wear. My scalp starts to get greasy within a week of washing, too, as I sweat a lot. The sweat seems to increase the amount of oil (sebum) my scalp produces. With this mass of mostly fine hair I have, that build-up gets easily trapped. Before too long, my scalp itches like crazy. On dry, dirty hair & scalp, this brush feels amazing - soothing and calming itching. I can't wait to have my hairdresser use this when washing my hair. She might prefer this one, which, on me, takes the index to ring fingers in the open curved 'handle' on the back - I have fairly small hands for a grown woman - my middle finger's ring size is 'N' & the ring finger is an 'L', if that's any help as a point of reference. If a child was using this, they'd need to use all four fingers. A fella with big chunky fingers, would only be using two fingers in the 'handle'. It's comfortable to use & easy to manage/ control, and it doesn't slip off. The ones I usually use, have like a 'whale-tail', an open-loop 'handle', which tends, over time, to snap off - it is incredibly uncomfortable on the fingers after a while, too, as well as it liking to slip off them. With those rounded ones with scalloped-edges, that I used before, the 'scratchiness' is more intense, than this Tangle Teezer massager - I find this one much more gentle in comparison. That's why I struggle to understand those that say it hurts to use this. I have allodynia - often just scratching an itch, on an arm or leg, can cause me pain. This Tangle Teezer massager is not at all painful for me to use. The only thing I can conclude from that, is, they were either using far too much force/ pressure, or, had received a faulty/ poorly-finished product. Another cause for their pain could be... This is not meant to be used in a circular motion, on many types of hair. When it says massager, it means there is a massage your scalp will get as you use it, as if you would a hairbrush, from the front to the back of the scalp. Using it in a circular motion, will only result in a mass of matted hair, full of knots, that you would have the devil's own job of trying to get out, even with a Tangle Teezer paddle brush. I believe this may be where the one-star reviewers went wrong. If you want to use it in a circular motion, first brush it through, so there are no knots, then use circular motions, working a bit at a time, correcting any knotting as you work from front to back, by brushing front to back/ downwards again. Don't just use it in a circular motion all over the scalp - even if you have brushed it through, it won't stay knot-free for long. Method is everything here. Obviously, if you have a no'1 all over, using this in a circular motion all over the scalp will cause no issues - the longer the hair, the more likely it'll become matted. I like the rows of harder nodules at each edge of this brush, for a more intense sensation & level of cleaning. You definitely need to use less pressure on these nodules, to avoid pain. No doubt, I got value for money - with the Onyx Black one I bought, being currently at better than half the usual price, on receipt of my first, I immediately ordered a second. So, that's two I own, now - for less than the price of one. It is a quality item & with it being from a trusted brand (I have their mini, regular & large paddle brushes, as well as a travel 'no-handle' Tangle Teezer), I know this scalp massage brush will last a good long while - I'm more likely to lose it, before it wears out! The Onyx Black colour shows up dead skin & fluff well, making it easy to clean thoroughly. Blonde hair would obviously be highly-visible on it, more than my dark hair is. It's thick, moulded plastic, ergo, it's sturdy - I don't think you could break it, even by stomping on it - your foot would sustain far more damage than this would. But, I don't think this would survive being run over... I'm very pleased with this scalp massager. I'm already using it just to scratch my head, rather than using my fingernails - it's certainly more sterile to use this. When the time comes for replacing these, I'll definitely buy again. Unless I encounter any issues later on, or, at the hairdresser, when Millie is washing my hair - if Millie has any salient comments to add - this will be my complete review.
