Hilarious but not good as the first
What do you say about a sequel that wasnโt needed? Well, Four Aunties and a Wedding definitely fall under that category. Dial A for Aunties was one of my top reads of 2021 and I was excited for this sequel. But sadly it didnโt deliver to the charm of its predecessor! The author tried to put the same formula in the sequel- wild aunties, humour, no browner plot, crazy scenes- but somehow, the thread that was holding all of this was too thin to carry it all together. I loved Aunties and their whole shenanigans in the first book. The depiction of Asian culture and Meddelinโs relationship with all of them was beautiful and justifiable. In this book though, rather than humourous the aunties felt rather stupid, and over-the-too-extra-thatโs-not-even-funny-but-irritable. The biggest theme of Sutantoโs stories is that of family. The familial love and the bond we share, the things we are ready to do for our family. And that bond is showing here. More louder than ever. But, it lacked that charm! This book is all about Meddyโs wedding day and a mafia gang who is trying to stop her wedding. Well, I would say a bride that was not able to enjoy a single moment of one of the most important days of her life and was forced to abandon her soon-to-be husband every ten minutes or so, doesnโt make a happy scene, does it? It was fun for a while, but then it was all chaos. Not a perfect sequel but still itโs a one-time, fun read and will give you bits of laughter in the pages. Read this if you still need closure to the whole Meddy-killed-a-guy-so-what-next thing.

This series is all one needs for laughter therapy.
***Combined review for Books 1&2 in the Aunties Series*** โWhoever said โItโs as hard as herding catsโ has obviously never tried to herd a group of Asian aunties.โ What happens when you mix one (accidental) murder with two thousand wedding guests, and then toss in a possible curse on three generations of an immigrant Chinese-Indonesian family? You get four meddling Asian aunties coming to the rescue! And when you have another catastrophe on your hands with the mafia out to kill someone at your wedding, itโs time for the aunties to return, fiercer than ever, and ready to handle any crisis. Dial A for Aunties and Four Aunties and A Wedding are all about the close-knit Asian family dynamics at play. Moms and aunties will curse you every chance they get but God forbid trouble befalls. Then they will join hands to form the strongest barricade and protect you no matter what. The stories are part crime thriller, part comedy, part madcap adventure, and a whole lot of Asian love. It has the Crazy Rich Asians vibe but builds more on the Crazy chaos than on the ritzy Rich. Having listened to Vera Wong on audio, I could almost hear the aunties speaking in Indonesian/Mandarin and maybe some part of me regretted not picking up audio versions for these as well just to hear the aunties. I havenโt laughed this hard and this loud in a long time as I have while reading these books by Jesse Q. Sutanto. It ticks all my favourite genres and is an instant mood lifter that will have you in stitches. If you ask me, this series is all one needs for laughter therapy. More aunties fun!
This is a great book! A continuation about the aunties, except the lead character is the one getting married and all the hijinx they get up to. A joyful and laugh out loud fun time! I highly recommend it!

I do book #2
Four aunties and a wedding is the sequel to Dial A for Aunties. This book did not disappoint. Although, the first one was a little better we follow the same humour, family closeness, and enjoyable read as the first.

Just Okay..
The first book in this series was hilarious and well written, this one.. less so. Itโs still funny, but feels forced. It would have been better if this wasnโt a series as the first one was so good, it was hard to live up to!

A great continuation to the Aunties series!
Four Aunties and a Wedding shows Meddy and Nathan on the run-up to their wedding day, and the day itself. Unfortunately, the magical day is ruined by the family organising their wedding turning out to be the Mafia, and planning to take out a target at the wedding! Ok, I loved this book. Meddy and the Aunties were their chaotic selves, Nathan was adorable and loveable as per, and the 'baddies' were brilliant also. The plot was spot-on and kept me guessing at all points and, of course, the humour was on point. A great continuation to the Aunties series; I can't wait for book 3!
