Honeywell Home RWD42/A Water Defense Water Leak Alarm with Sensing Cable, Rwd42 , White

This sensor detected leaks of water dripping from my HVAC humidifier to the basement floor. I have them placed around the house now. I live in a 3-story townhouse where water leaks on upper floors in the past where we have no detectors resulted in damage costing over $25,000 to repair. As you might imagine, my insurance company which foot the bill highly recommended these. They work! We've also learned to turn off water to the house when we travel per advice from our insurance company. I'm buying these "used" because many are being returned. I don't understand why. I test them before use with a water soaked cloth and each has set off the alarm when the slightest amount of water contacts the extendable cord. Unlike the older version of this model, I have to let the water sensing cord dry thoroughly before using the sensor again. This is easy to do by unplugging the cord to stop the beeping and let it dry. The test button doesn't work on any of the 7 detectors I have so I believe it's not installed at the factory. Not an issue. The 2AA batteries seem to last for a couple years. When they need replacing the device beeps every 30 seconds or so the same as fire detectors batteries. Chasing down the beeping dead battery can be a challenge with many around the house. Of course you must be home to benefit from these detectors. They are no WiFi capable and don't connect externally to any alarm system. If you need that capability there are plenty of options. We like these because they are simple to use and work for us.

Stopped working after 3 years, Spent more than one hour troubleshooting with Resideo. At the end the repsesntative advised me to get a new detector

Easy to use, loud alarm, works with a very small amount of moisture

our undersink water filter failed and this alarm started beeping loudly. I was able to reach under the sink and turn the water off and clean up the mess before it damaged anything. the long sensor is the key to detecting water anywhere under the sink. THANK YOU! I recommend this unit.

Disappointed in the R2D42 Water detector, its not as sensitive as other models from resideo. Its also not wifi, so I can't add it to our monitoring app. The Instructions are not clear and going to Resideo website provides nothing additional. After installing two new AA batteries. I wanted to test it. There are no instructions to test it. Pushing the test button does nothing other than hearing a click. Google AI instructions for testing it said wet fingers and touch cord, which I did but nothing happened even after holding the cord with my wet fingers for a while. I was starting to think the unit didn't work but decided to test it under running water, which did start the alarm. There is no way to turn off the alarm so I had to remove the batteries and let it dry. However after removing the batteries, the unit smells like its burning even though only a part of the cord got wet. I'm concerned that testing it may have shorted something (thus the burning smell) and I wonder how bad the water leak needs to be before this will detect it and alarm.

VERY sensitive to moisture. If you have any wood floors in your home, these are essential . The sensing cable and the wake-the-dead smoke alarm sound are the best features. I found that small pieces of clear Alien tape applied every 6" is the best way to hold the cable down. Route it around the valves on the floor of bathroom. The included tape tabs that are supplied to hold down the cable are not very good.

Worked for about a year. Recently had a water spill and now the alarm won’t turn off after completely drying it. Like other users I have an older model at least 5 years old and it still works. Very disappointed.

The water sensitive wire is surrounding the sum pump well. The self test on the unit does not work but I cannot at this time send it back as we are in the worst time of the year with the melting of the snow. The pump starts every 4 minutes so can’t take a chance that we are not protected in case the pump fails, at least we will be advised that this has happened so that I can do something about it.

Wish they actually worked. Two of them were dead right out of the box.
