Dogtra ARC HANDSFREE Slim Ergonomic 3/4-Mile Remote Dog Training E-Collar with HANDSFREE for Discreet and Precise Control

Purchased as part of professional training. Once learned how to use properly and as/with positive reinforcement, found these helped with the confidence in ourselves and our dogs. This does not shock, it vibrates as like a tap on the shoulder. Found it very effective when used correctly. Not for punishment or negative training which is never a good option. Battery still running, so not sure yet on battery life. Product is well made, fits good.

It’s day one so it is early but this product has exceeded my expectations. I just adopted a 16 mo old Cane Corso that is 105# and needed some refinement in obedience training. The collar the previous owner used and gave with dog fell apart. I tried another highly reputable brand and on the lowest setting and he would jump, get completely startled and looked painful. I tried this collar after our police K9 trainer I am taking him to recommended this brand. With this collar you can really find that sweet spot with your dog so that it doesn’t scare them. They seem to appreciate that too as well. Start low and work your way up. For my Corso 15-20 around the home where distractions are low. 30-35 when there are more distractions. You can feel the quality in the equipment and the handsfree repeater is great when multitasking. This coupled with lots of love and training and he will be model citizen in no time!

I have Ordered and returned several E collars of different manufacturers. I tried them worried about my dog’s well being, got scared, stop using them; and after watching dozens of videos and reading Larry Krohns book on ecollars, i finally feel confident to use this tool properly. My dog is learning well with this collar. I mostly use the pager function but will use stim too but have not exceeded 19 on a dial that goes to 127. I use it to give a command and the dog turns stim/vibration off by compliance. She is learning SHE has the power to control the collar. I like the ARC collar design better its less bulky than the 900s but its still obviously an ecollar. I liked the remote on the 900 better this one is too big for my hand. I have not used the hands free remote yet. I need an ecollar ro train my dog to stay on country property that is difficult to fence as it is on a river. Eventually I will buy the Dogtra hunting collar so i can map a GPS boundary to alert me if dog leaves perimeter. I’ve attached a video of me training dog to go to “place” using only pager. I used all collars i bought on myself and trust the stim to be correct with Dogtra. I actually put the collar on my neck and nicked myself at 60. I don’t recommend it. Use your leg or hand but at least understand what it feels like.

disclaimer: I have been using e collars for over 15 years and do not recommend an inexperienced pet owner from using one without EXTENSIVE training and education from an experienced and proficient professional. E collars can be easily misused. Now with that out of the way, I must say, I love this tool. Remote size is great, and the receiver size is very discreet. There is ONE cause for concern that has resulted in a 4 star instead of 5. Be very aware when using the hands free transmitter that there is a delay when you release the button to when the stim actually stops. While it is fractions of a second, anybody who understands how these collars are most effectively used understands the value fractions of a second can be. When using low level stim as R- when you release the button is of the utmost importance. I would not suggest using the hands free when shaping or molding a new behavior and instead reserve it for a more experienced dog working speed on an already fluent behavior.

This model fit our small golden lab better than the next size up and had more than enough power to train her. We hired a professional trainer and he had her working well with it within 20 minutes. We had not needed to use it much - but from what we have used, it is working well and seeems very well-made. I highly recommend using a professional trainer. I consider myself to be good with dogs; have trained them in the past; but I've come to respect the person who does this as their livelihood. Both the collar and the professional trainer were worth the money. A little bit of training for a lifetime of a great relationship with your dog.

I am a first time user with an electric collar for my dog. I have a German shepherd .I don't use it everyday ,but when I do use it I have to charge it each time . It isn't in use more than 24 hours at 1 time. when I take it off Of my dog I turn the collar off and then turn the controller off and the collar will turn itself on again if I am too close to the controller so I have to turn it off several times and move it away from the controller very quickly so I am not sure if it is a default to in my collar and controller or if that's just how it works I do know that I have to charge it each and every time I go to use it Which is an inconvenience. I did not return it because by the time I started using it on a regular basis my 30 days was up. I also have a little bit of trouble with the dial it seems to turn it sells and when you go to dial the number that you would like You have to be very careful. So It could use some improvements.

I recommend an experienced trainer show you the appropriate method of using this collar without traumatizing your dog for life. That being said, I don’t use the shock part of the collar. I’m using only the vibrate function for HoH dog and it’s way more noticeable for her than other brands’ vibrate feature. The low profile of the collar is great, but the box isn’t all that much smaller than the element, just shaped different. Range is excellent and battery life is decent, lasts all day but don’t leave it on overnight without charging. Vibrating seems to run the battery down pretty quick.

The battery life of the remote and collar unit seem to be less that a quarter of what the 1900ncp is. If I could do it again, I would have replaced the collar that I had, rather than 'upgrade' to this ARC unit. My old Dogtra 1900ncp I'd plug in maybe once a week to a week and a half. This ARC need every other day or its dead. The remote still lasts maybe 5 days. Still, everything works like it should. Its a good company, and a great product.
