With many of her subjects rendered in hyper realistic style, wearing a second skin of black paint or dark-florals, Laura Rubin's art is unmistakeable. To tell the story behind her art, Laura begins the book by sharing her journey from art student to professional artist, providing encouragement for budding pros and enthusiasts alike. Laura also talks about what inspires her, with mythology and psychology being just two subjects that feed into her emotion-infused work. The reader is then invited behind the scenes to watch the artist at work in her studio, located in her hometown of Thun, Switzerland. Laura's portraiture sketchbook is opened to reveal simple drawings and recent studies made as the early stages of future paintings. Throughout these sections are artworks from past and present. In addition, there is brand new art by Laura, created exclusively for this book. Finally, the reader is led through detailed, step-by-step tutorials demonstrating the artist's workflow and the key fundamentals of portraiture (pose, light, and composition). From using reference models, and expert tips for working in Procreate, to sketching, coloring, and advancing the portrait from realism to hyperrealism, the process is explained from start to finish. Review: Such rich content! - I read the whole book this morning in one sitting. I’ve been following her work for a while now and being a traditional artist wanting to venture into digital art, I thought this book would be a nice introduction to the procreate app and basics of digital drawing. And I was very right, her backstory is very relatable, touching and inspiring. Her tutorial is very easy to follow and her tips are so useful! I took this pic of the book next to my iPad Pro 12 inches so you can have an idea of size. I now wanna buy her first book titled “melancholia”, unfortunately I couldn’t find on desertcart U.S. Review: Amazing content - Great content and tutorials for any digital artist.

Does a great work as a coffee table book, but doesn’t help much with actual drawing.
I bought it because I like the Laura’s style of drawing and expected it to give me a little inside of how she does it. Only one chapter cover drawing and advices on using procreate, the others are just unnecessary filling.

Worth buying if you want to learn more about making portraits with Procreate on the iPad
I have been following Laura's work for some time so ordered this book. It's full of useful information about how to draw using certain techniques, aswell as how to draw and colour a portrait from scratch. As I am used to using Procreate, I can see that some of the instructions are slightly missing / not relaid as well as they could be ie. when using layers and using layer types, which would mean that some beginners would potentially not understand or miss out how to reiterate some of the steps in the way she personally works but the general jist is there and each artist does have a unique workflow so you learn what you like as you go along. It does contain a wealth of information and as she recommends in the book, ordering her own brushes to use with the book is definitely a good idea as they are also excellent. It's a beautiful book and looks great on the coffee table! I am pleased I bought it and have already learned more from reading it.

Cover maltratado
