Excellent for metal and rock
Replaced active Seymour Duncan Blackouts with this one in a Schecter Blackjack ATX Flying V. With the active pickups the guitar was ok, but there was a lack of dynamics. Now the guitar is outstanding, this pickup has quite high output, but not too much. I use it for 80s/90s style thrash- and heavy metal, but it will be nice for rock and hard rock, as well.Setup: guitar -> tube screamer -> amp (Engl Blackmore), works just perfect with real and simulated devices.

A Lot of BITE in This Pup
I installed this in a Carvin DC Custom. My setup is 1Pup 1Volume. That's it. The wiring was minimal, but there are resources on the SD website that really simplify the installation for almost any configuration. The stock Carvin pickup was lacking too much on the high end and sustain for my taste. After the installation, the difference was VERY noticeable. It had the "bite" that I was looking for on the attack. All the "cool" sounds that you can make with a FR Tremolo are now easily attainable. The pinch harmonics, squeals, dive bombs, etc. sound great. It is very difficult to describe sounds and tones in written words, but it's easy to say "I like it". It sounds good to me. Some audiophiles may care to disagree. I can only speak for myself. It sounds good; definitely better than the stock pup that was in it.

Clarity with Power
It's not a vintage classic or just a modern hi-gain humbucker. The tone is clear, compressed (u can hear every note equally). You can play lots of styles with playing your volume knob. It is the second high output passive duncan.
