Bird-X Scare-Eye Balloon Predator Decoy 3 Colors Scares Birds Pigeons

We live in Las Vegas and back up to a golf course with tons of geese. We went away for a few weeks this winter and came back to find that a pair of geese found a new pond, our pool. During the first 3 days, they came back once, ran around the pool honking at the balls like they were trying to claim territory. No return! Yes, the balls loose air if you blow them all the way up. But as you can see in the photo, they still hold plenty of air after a couple weeks. The only downside is side is that they can blow out of the pool and try to “escape”. I was looking to attach non-toxic fishing weights but never got around to it.

I've been dealing with many birds (barn swallows,etc) in my large barn and in a paddock just outside the barn for several years now. They "mess" all over my horse's feeders and trough, my equipment, and worst of all caused one of my barn cats to get sick with histoplasmosis (illness from fungus in bird droppings) which resulted in huge vet bills. So after going to every extreme to getting the birds out of my barn, I decided to buy one of the electronic Bird X-Pro Repellers and a package of the Scare Eye Balloons. I first installed the electronic Repeller which helped a little bit for the first few weeks. The Repeller helped to keep them at bay from near where it was placed (above the horse's feeder and water trough) but I still had anywhere from 25-50+ birds in my barn at a time. A month or so later, I then installed the Scare Eye Balloons at the doors of my barn and also near my horse's feeder and water trough (which had become an oversized "bird bath"). OMG, they really helped! I couldn't believe it. So I ordered two more packages. The balloons come with metallic streamers that hang from the bottom of the balloon. I went to the next level and bought some shiny, red metallic tissue paper, cut it into strips to add more streamers to the balloons. I hung several more throughout my barn (mostly scattered at the doorways) and I haven't seen but maybe 2-3 birds occasionally flying in/out of my barn. Right after I hung up the Scare Eye Balloons, it looked like hundreds of birds were still hanging around on the eaves of the barn, on the power lines, etc...a few weeks have passed and now I see very few at all. I think the true test will be next spring when the birds come back to nest...we'll see then. p.s. - I hope I've not jinxed myself by bragging about how wonderful these balloons work. The only regret I have is not trying these sooner!

Absolutely a waste of money, from day 1 they didn’t work, so I bought more, moved them around, placed them at different heights and locations - they didn’t deter any geese. After you read all the reviews look at the picture I posted - I don’t care what anyone says they don’t work!

Purchased one set last week and hung them from the second story balcony right over the patio area to keep birds away from my patio furniture. We have pets so the anti-creature noise devices and watering devices weren't realistic options for us. These inflatable balloons are well made and seem to withstand rain, heat and mild to moderate winds. They actually look like party decorations from a distance and aren't an eye sore for us or our neighbors. I also took blank CD disks (4 of them) and strung them using invisible fishing line (10 lb. test weight) with 4 inches or so in between each disk, and hung them from the second story balcony in addition to these inflatable balloons. The disks work as an anti-bird mobile because the reflection of the light against each disk seems to scare birds away. Plus, the CD disk mobile moves even without wind while the scary eye inflatable balloons require stronger breezes to move. When the inflatable balloons are not moving in the wind, the mirrored CD disks catch the light at different angles and the birds don't even try to venture near the patio. Don't know whether the inflatable balloons will work well enough if used alone, but since the birds are staying away due to the CD disk mobile and inflatable balloons combo, I'm not willing to try!

I just bought a house with a pool near a lake and suddenly I found ducks making my back yard their private hang out almost everyday. I had tried everything. Pool floats the shape of predators, shot at them with a BB gun, making sure the water was extremely clean everyday, I even put up fishing line around the edges. At last I read that these had worked for other people. And surprisingly, THEY WORK! I don't know what it is, but they seem to freak ducks out. I attached a rock and fishing line to one of these so it floats in the middle of the pool. I attached an other one to the railings. I have only seen a single duck once and more importantly I find no more crap in or around my pool. For the price it is worth trying. Keep in mind You will need something to pump them up.

I've used this product for 4 fig seasons now, and it does work to some extent. I suspend the balloons on strings from bamboo poles so that they dangle just over the trees. Last year, almost as soon as I put them up, a number of crows arrived to squawk at them. The local birds ran the crows off after about half an hour, but the upshot is that these things actually attracted some undesirable birds to my fig trees! Anyway, local birds such as mockingbirds and cardinals quickly become accustomed to the balloons and predate my figs, but the balloons do seem to keep out grackles and starlings. I took them down yesterday, and sure enough, now the grackles are brazenly in the trees tearing up the last of the figs. I also use inflatable snakes and Mylar tape in my annual fig defense project, so I'm not sure which element of the project is the most effective, or even if all elements need to be present to be effective.

We have a second story balcony. It's relatively small, with room for a couple of wooden rockers plus another chair. Things were fine until the pigeons and doves (fed by a neighbor) discovered this was a handy place to perch--and poop. The backs of the rockers became their favorite perches. An hour with a pressure washer was required to clear the mess from furniture, floor and railings. After reading about a variety of deterrents, I ordered two packs of these balloons so that I could qualify for free shipping. Initially, my husband put up only three of the balloons, spacing them equally on the largest span. They kept birds out for not quite two days. Then the pigeons began to return, entering through the open (unguarded) ends of the balcony. My husband immediately hung two more balloons, one at each end. That seems to have done the trick. No pigeons or doves have settled in again, as shown by the lack of droppings. As the item description notes, these are about the size of beach balls. They come with mylar streamers and decals, both of which you have to attach yourself. You will also needs little eyelets to screw into the ceiling or whatever you are attaching them to, as well as some kind of cord. PROS: These are a relatively cheap first thing to try. They are perhaps best suited to protecting a limited small space, such as our balcony. CONS: They do look a little goofy. I am not sure whether I would have put them up if this balcony were at the front of the house. Also, the mylar streamers do make some noise as they flutter in the wind. However, that's probably part of their effectiveness. WHY DON'T THEY WORK FOR EVERYONE? * You need to buy enough balloons, and space them closely enough. * You need to block all flight pathways. * You need a fairly steady wind, to keep the balloons moving about. Hawaii's tradewinds are ideal in this regard. We will see what happens when we lose the trades in September and October, at the end of summer. As several reviewers have noted, these won't last forever. They are just mylar balloons, after all. So, I expect we will need to replace them, perhaps even more than annually. But I definitely plan to keep enough on hand to put them back immediately. The cost is reduced by using the Super Saver Shipping option.

These are very smelly (plastic smells, like a carcinogen?) and are hard to blow up. It is like old pool float material (seems tough and durable but I expect they will only last one season), they come stuck together, you need to decorate them with stickers and attach a flickering tape and string tail. Poor instructions. They are hard to seal after blowing up (the closure is very short). A lot of negativity here but I cannot tell if they work or if the woodpecker mating season is just over. The baloons were stuck together and were stuck upon themselves; when opening up to fill with air, the paint came off each one as I peeled them apart and opened them up. Also, the package had been taped together so I do not know if others blew into them first and they were returned. I am not impressed or expecting them to work. They are about 1 1/2 feet in diameter. Update 8-2-13: I do not think these are effective against woodpeckers as they nest close by or the fast-moving swallows. Many nice birds do not come close (expected). It stopped Robins from nesting in our eves, which is good, but these are unsightly (a trade-off). One ball goes flat right after blowing it up so there is a hole in it. We have lots of yellow jackets and hornets so maybe it is scaring away the birds that eat them?? I do not think these are helpful. I added some flashing silver/red woodpecker tape to these, but it annoys the neighbors with the flicker (another trade-off). I do not recommend these. Will update as needed. Hope this helps someone.

They are very effective in scaring birds away , but expect to check daily because with strong winds they sometimes get deflated and the string that ties them gets snapped. I use mine on the roof to discourage pigeons from setting house on the ledges.

Lovely to look at but NO scare factor. Fail to scare any birds. Disappointing and a waste of money!

Funciona perfectamente, los coloque en una terraza en CDMX y ni las palomas ni golondrinas se han acercado nuevamente, hay que cambiarlas constantemente de lugar como indican las instrucciones

En cuanto se colocaron se ahuyentaron a las palomas y no han regresado. Excelente producto. Veremos que tanto duran y si no se afectan con el sol.
