does this set come with a magnet? It says it does but some reviews say it doesn’t.

Mine came with 6 bottles and the magnet. The magnet was under the black plastic that was holding the polish in place so make sure you empty out the entire box. Hope this helps 🙂

Do I need to use a special base coat or can I use the one for regular gel polish ?

I get better results on top of a top coat. Base, color, top coat, and then the magnetic gel polish. I only have all those in the Beatles gel brand.
