My daughter is 7 years old, 52 inches and ~60 lb. She usually wears a size 7/8 in clothes but this size was not available in red and she needed red leggings for a school play. I ordered the size 10 and they fit fairly well and as I expected - a little long (I rolled them up about 1.5 inches) and very comfortable around the waist but not so that they were falling off by any means. Overall, I presume that the size 8 would have fitted her exactly, but the size 10 that I purchased more than did the job and has a little room for growth. The leggings are nice and soft and, while lightweight, they are in no way see through. They have only been washed a couple of times but have retained their color and shape (e.g. the knees are not bagging out) and all the stitching remains intact so, so far, I am more than happy with the purchase - especially given the inexpensive price tag.

Little toddler wore these to a Grinchmas in July event. She wore them with a cute green tutu and a white Cindy Lou shirt. It was nice quality, and looked cute on her. She topped it off with a frilly cute pair of green socks.

I have a tall, skinny 5-year-old. She wears a size 6 in pants. These leggings were the perfect color for her school uniform, but the 6 is already on the small size for length. I went ahead and bought an 8 thinking we could make them work. While they are obviously wider from top to bottom, they're only an inch longer, which is hardly anything. There's no way we can go up another size without them falling off of her so I'm looking for a new option. Otherwise, these are well made and warm enough for outside play during school.
