Home Printer - Easy to Setup
The HP Laserjet Pro 3001dw printer was very easy to set up for home use. It only came with a power cable, and I did not need any additional cable to get started. I simply plugged it in, turned it on, made sure the wireless function and my home Wi-Fi were on, then went to hpsmart.com/setup on my laptop and followed the instructions. The setup required my Wi-Fi password, but after that, everything worked smoothly. Everyone in the house on the same Wi-Fi can print from a mobile device or computer. It is a black-and-white printer and it can print double-sided, which works well for me.

Perfect for our use
I got this to replace a 15+ year old LaserJet 1320. Connection and setup was easy and the WiFi and print from iPhone and Android works as documented. Very happy with this one, hope it lasts as long as its predecessor.

You have to use a hard-wired connection to initially connect it to Wi-fi
Printer itself works OK. Nothing fancy, BUT: there is no screen or anything on the printer to use to select a wireless network, enter a password, etc. There are just 4 plain buttons, one of which is a wifi button. It's supposed to just magically (?) connect. The setup guide that comes with the printer just says to use the HP Smart App. The app does work to connect to and manage the printer, BUT it needs to be connected to the same network as your computer in order to do that. Can't use the app to get to network settings that I need to change to connect to the network. What I ended up doing was connecting the printer to my network directly with an Ethernet cable. From there, I was able to access the built-in web server on the printer to get to wifi settings. Even that was a chore. There is an "i" button on the printer - when I pressed that, it printed a sheet of paper that had the URL for the web interface (luckily, otherwise - I wouldn't even have known there was a web interface). The web interface requires a password to login. It's printed inside the cartridge door, but nothing mentions that - I had to just Google it. Once I got the wifi network information entered, the printer connected to the network. I just added it directly in Windows (I don't like the HPSmart app)

Works Great on Network
I have this set up on local network. My desktop (wired connection) has no issue in printing to it. Our laptop (Wireless) will print to it with no problem. For some reason, it would print an extra page with just "PDF" on it. HP Support suggested unplugging it, holding down the power button for 15 seconds, and reconnecting / restarting. That resolved the issue Minor Suggestion - You can go into the Printer Preferences and change it to "Economode" and save toner. Update after having for a year and a half. Minor issue is it will occasionally not print a job. Universal Solution (Turn thing off and back on) works. I am running with it connected via CAT5 to router because of other connectivity issues. (House has plaster walls and they have chicken wire inside of them. Great for blocking of WiFi signal.) Cartridge (138X, high capacity) will print +/- 3200 pages.

Prints nice but WiFi setup was nightmare (with a fix)
This prints very nice with PCL 6 and real Adobe Postscript Level 3 V3017. I initially tried the wireless setup app reference in the docs, and it failed. I connected an Ethernet cable and made it work. Updated the firmware and used the WiFi setup wizard on the printer web page (password is inside the toner cartridge compartment). Spent HOURS trying to get get WiFi to work and was just about to return the printer. My Ubiquity management console showed it connected to WiFi (although roaming between WiFi access points excessively) and it had an IP address, but you could not access the printer web page or print to it. One last idea was to do a secure erase from the printer web page, accessed over Ethernet. After this cold reset, I did the WiFi setup wizard (over Ethernet) and WiFi worked correctly. MANY minus points for lame setup, plus points for fast first page, high print quality, prints from my iPhone, or Windows laptop, or Linux system. I would offhand get something else but don't know of another low cost laser printer that includes Postscript. CUPS Postscript test page says it's 600x600 DPI, not the 1200 DPI claimed in the Windows config dialog. I'm a highly experienced software and hardware engineer, and my WiFI setup issues were not user error.

Prints well, network connections of multiple computers, especially Macs, doesn't work.
I got this printer because it as cheap. It's important to note that you are not shipped a 3001dw, but a 3001dwe. The "e" is why it's cheap. It means the printer needs to have a connection to the HP cloud at all times, presumably so you can setup automatic shipping of paper/toner to you. Or surveillance. Strangely, it is very difficult to set this printer up on a home network. I can connect my primary Windows machine to it, but I have been unable to connect my Mac to it except via bluetooth. Which means I need to be in the same room. The online support is useless. After 3 months of occasional, attempts, I've given up. I would recommend spending the extra $100-$200 for a better printer, even if it seems larger.

Great product. Easy to set up.
We installed this as a second home printer. I LOVE the black and white laser. It is fast and cheap. This one even does automatic duplex printing to save paper. The B&W is fine for us. We ran through so many color cartridges over the years when my wife printed out recipes or craft ideas. The B&W is fine for us--and so much cheaper. The cartridges last us probably over a year. We have not tried the envelopes function. Easy connection via the HP setup process. Make sure to put the printer on the same WiFi as the laptops/smartphones/iPads in the house. We have a WiFi repeater that we use for better coverage--you have to make sure they are all on the same network.

Very Disappointing – Misleading Duplex Printing Feature
I purchased the HP LaserJet Pro 3001dw specifically because it was advertised as supporting automatic duplex printing. My primary need was A5 duplex printing, which the product appeared to support — the paper tray is even marked for A5. However, after setting up the printer, I discovered that it cannot perform duplex printing on A5 paper at all. This makes the printer completely unsuitable for the purpose I bought it for. I contacted HP support several times through the hotline, but each time the outcome was a failure — no fix, no workaround, and no refund offered. This is extremely disappointing from a company of HP’s reputation. If you need duplex printing on A5, be warned: this printer will not deliver what is promised. Misleading specifications and poor customer support have made this a frustrating and regrettable purchase.
