Durable + light = perfect shoes for active boys
This is the 2nd pair of the Jamison from KEEN I've ordered and couldn't be happier with them. Well, if they were free I'd be happier, but I'm pretty happy as is.I have a 6 year old, very active, boy who takes great pleasure in seeing just how far he can slide on his knees across tile floors, or just how far he can jump, or how big of a boulder he can climb over. Needless to say, there are two things we are constantly replacing . . . pants, and shoes. His shoes would typically last six weeks on the high end, and would inevitably end up with holes over the toes and extreme fraying where the upper meets the tongue. In a particularly bad pair, the sole might crack, but they rarely lasted long enough for that to wear out.I initially bought the KEEN shoes because they had a reinforced toe, and I was hoping that, for the price, I could get at least three months out of them. 12 months later, I am a true believer in KEEN. Not only did the shoe hold together - no holes in the toe, and minimal fraying on the upper - it's not clunky or heavy (which means scaling boulders is easy), and it's comfortable (they are the only shoes my son chooses to wear). The bungee cord laces are nothing short of genius in my opinion. I am quite shocked but altogether happy that I was forced to buy new shoes because my son outgrew them instead of outwore them.In criticism, it seems a lot easier to find this shoe in the larger kid sizes, in colors for girls, and not boys. I hope the plan is not to discontinue this model.

Great shoes for kids tough on them.
My two oldest boys are terrors on shoe wear. I've been through just about any and all retail brands and they just don't hold up. Some worn out after only 2-3 months. I read through reviews on various hiking shoes since I thought they'd hold up better and went with a pair of these for my 5 and 8 year old boys. It's now been 6 months and despite having to fix the lace anchor a couple of times as they pulled out, there hasn't been a single hole or split seam. Typical break-in wear, but the shoes are still in top condition. Extremely tough shoes. The only complaint they have is that they don't seem to stay tight enough by the lace capture system alone. Trying to pull tighter is what led to the laces pulling out of the anchor, as a matter of fact. There is no reason why you couldn't substitute real laces in these shoes if that becomes a real problem, however. There's no doubt I will be going with another pair of these when they are ready for another pair.

Keen are the most durable shoes
Keen is the only brand of shoes we buy for our 6 year old. He used to wear shoes out every month; even the more expensive Sketchers or similar shoe store brands. We went to a specialty shoe store and asked the experts what the most indestructable shoes were and we were told Keen. This is the 3rd pair we've bought and they are great. Neither of the first 2 were truly worn out at replacement. The first got too small and the second was just starting to look worn but then he wore them nearly every day for almost a year so that is expected. No holes in the toes like before, just worn looking fabric etc. It is the rubber that goes all the way up the front and over the toes that is key. My son picked this color and style because he wanted a more athletic running shoe. The past we've had more of a hiking style shoe. I'd recommend any Keen shoes for any child who is extremely hard on their shoes.

Another resounding success!
As a nurse, I'm a big believer in fitting a child in the best possible shoe as one can, providing support during crucial bone and muscle growth, balance and coordination development. It's difficult for a lot of people to justify spending $50-$100 for a shoe your kid is going to destroy and/or outgrow. But Keen has consistently impressed me with their quality to cost ratio. They toe the line sometimes in being too expensive, but I rarely put anything else on our 4 1/2 year old son Ace anymore. The colors stay bright, and the shoes maintain their shape even after an emergency run through the washer, (full load, warm/cold, regular detergent, air dried--perfect!) Despite being more interested in running wild with the dog or tormenting the cat with love, he easily manages getting keens on and off independently. The fact that every single keen shoe we've ever purchased has survived to be passed down to the next round of rambunctious boys, and sometimes 2 or 3 rounds of boys, is very telling. I have never had a dud keen.

Really really pleased with these shoes
I ordered these shoes for an upcoming trip in which we would be hiking, and we are not a hiking family. My daughter (7.5 yrs old, and not a 'sneakers' girl) was so comfortable in these shoes, she wanted to hike every chance we got. When we got home from the trip she started a very active summer camp - these shoes have come home wet, filthy, and crammed into her backpack in all kinds of contorted positions every day. They have held up fabulously, I am thrilled with them. Anything less would have fallen apart by now, and not only are they still intact and supportive, they are still comfortable and look great (even without cleaning them). The mesh material doesn't show the dirt and grime like most sneakers do. I love how they 'lace' too - it's ingenious, no ties to trip over or come loose, and they stay snug. My daughter has no trouble getting them on and off, and she loves these shoes too. I highly recommend these shoes!

Almost lasted a whole school year
My son is super hard on shoes. I spent a bit more on Keen shoes hoping they would actually last the school year. Well, almost, though they've been pretty sad for 1 1/2 months since the bungee snapped on one of them. I did manage to thread the frayed end through the plastic clip and tie a knot so they were still functional. Now the mesh upper has completely pulled away from the sole. My son likes to kick at things a lot--which is why we liked the look of the rubber toe. Instead of falling apart at the toe, it fell apart on the side. Definitely lasted longer than other shoes we've bought though.

Quasi unkaputtbar
