No smell, burns clean and long!
Used last night for the first time when making some pizzas, long burning and kept my oven at a steady temperature. You can tell its great quality because there's almost no smell meaning they dont use crazy chemicals that would harm you. Huge bag, should last me a while, therefore it's a great value for the money!

Burns HOT and Long, few sparks!
I have tried at least 25 different kinds of charcoal in the past 20 years in my Big Green Egg. Jealous Devil is the best, bar none. This is truly Excellent lump charcoal. Large chunks but not too big. Almost no dust or small chips. Easy to light with electric or propane torch. Very little sparking on ignition. Burns anywhere from 180 to over 800 degrees in my BGE. Burns long too. 24 hours at 275, no problem. Great flavor, not too overwhelming. If you want more smokiness in the flavor, it is easy to add whatever combination you like without having that flavor overwhelmed by the JD. I cannot recommend this charcoal highly enough.

In love with Jealous Devil
I used Jealous Devil for the first time yesterday. Here are my initial thoughts. First, I was very impressed when I opened the bag. (See the first picture.) The pieces were quite large when compared to the other brand I have used. I filled up my Primo Junior as much as I could, leaving enough room for the deflector plates to be in place. (See the second picture.) Second, lighting the JD took longer than my prior brand. However, there were no small pieces in the Primo Junior, which I find light so much easier. I had to light medium sized pieces, which do take longer. The JD also produced smaller sparks than the other charcoal when lighting with my Looflighter. I was hoping for none, but that may not be possible with this method of lighting. Third, there was a distinct difference in the smell of the smoke. I do understand why some people have called it a "chemical" smell, but it is very slight and I liked it. It absolutely had no negative influence on the food I smoked. If anything, I like the taste it added. Fourth, I never had the white, billowing smoke that I have had with the other brand in the past. It was a very clean burn. Fifth, the Junior maintained temperature with no problem, but I have found the same with my prior brand. I would be interested to see how the two would compare in a less efficient smoker, but have no desire to use anything other than my Primos. Sixth, I was absolutely shocked this morning when I opened up the Junior to check on the remaining JD charcoal. There is a ton left over. The cook was around 4.5 to 5 hours, and just a little was burned. If for no other reason, the efficiency of the JD won me over. While it might cost more than my prior lump charcoal brand, I bet it is cheaper in the long-run. (See the third picture compared to the second.)
