This Tool Worked when Others Didn't.
My other oil filter wrenches (strap type and cup type) were not able to grab tight enough to remove the filter from my Toyota Camry because the filter was on so very tight. With this tool, the more torque you apply, the tighter the grip becomes. My filter was so tight that the each jaw of the tool made indentations in the filter housing (maybe about 1/4 inch deep), but eventually the filter turned. The tool is also relatively low profile so it fit in the tight space around the small Toyota filter. By using a 3/8 inch drive ratchet, the 3/8 to 1/2 inch adapter (also included) is not needed, which makes the overall profile (even with the racket wrench) fairly low which is good for tight spaces.

Sturdy construction, very reliable.
I use this oil filter wrench at work in a professional garage. Not only does it function excellently with standard metal oil filters, I have also been able to loosen cartridge style oil filters with plastic housings with this wrench in a pinch. I am certain that your metal oil filter will fail LONG before this wrench will fail. It has already been used 87 times since delivery last week. The wrench functions as if it were brand new every time I reach for it. And I LOVE the addition of the 1/2 inch adapter. It keeps you from having to grab a separate ratchet, thus lowering labor hours over a standard 9 hour shift. I fully recommend this filter wrench. MUCH BETTER than metal band wrenches for sure!

3-Jaw Universal Oil Filter Wrench
Anybody who has worked on a engine knows that they need a oil filter wrench if they want to remove the oil filter off of the engine. I am sure we have all seen those standard oil filter wrenches where you slip them onto the oil filter and pull that lever which tightens it against the filter. Thats all well and great if your oil wrench is the proper sise for the filter you are trying to remove cause if its not, your out of luck there buddy. I have one of those big rig style oil wrenches and its too big to fit onto 2 inch oil filters and because of that lever, you can't get them up into tight spaces to work them. So I went looking for an oil filter wrench which would work great for small filters, hence, small engine work. Thats when I found the 3-Jaw universal wrench being sold at Amazon.com. I was a bit worried when I bought this because I saw how small it was in the Amazon image, thought it might not be strong enough. Oh how I was wrong, first thing I noticed when I took it out of the box was how heavy it was, deffinetly meant for the most tightest of filters. There was a guy at Amazon who said that he went to a hardware outlet to purchase a adaptor because he did not have a 1/2 drive rachet. Oh how I feel bad for him, he waisted his time, essentally he bought an adaptor to adapt from the adaptor. Hence it came with an adaptor and so if he just pulled the adaptor out, he would have noticed it has a built in 3/8 drive for rachets as well. Oops :( The jaw is fully adjustable from 2 and 1/2 inches all the way up to 4 inches so thats why its universal. All you have to do is put the jaws onto an oil filter, attach your rachet/socket wrench and begin loosening the filter. The only thing I don't like about this design is that you must keep holding it, if you let off pressure even for a second, the jaws will slip off the filter. Its not bad however once you get used to it and it works well. You tighten on the filter the same way, just switch your rachet direction switch. I would have liked to have seen rubber going down the 3 jaws as to protect the filter from getting scratched. If your not worried about cosmetics, then this won't matter to you. But if you have a race car for car shows, you may not want to scratch up your oil filter using this wrench which has no rubber on the jaws. However, this wrench design has a huge advantage over standard filter wrenches in that you hook onto it from the middle of the wrench. What this means is, you have a hard to reach oil filter in that Honda? No problem, stick on a few extensions, then your rachet, stick it up there and wala, instant access! All in all I think this is a great oil filter wrench. But it would have been nice to have a lock mechanism on the wrench to keep it from slipping off the filter if you let off pressure. And it would have been nice to have had rubber going up and down the jaws as to keep the filters from getting scratched. Date Purchased: 11/07-08 Price Paid: $8.00 Recommend: YES

Good solution
For filters in tight areas I have used the "socket cup" tools in the past. The problem with these is having to buy many different sizes, and never being sure you will have the right size for a new type of filter. Since this tool adapts to any size, it's a better choice. Used it today with no problems. Was a little concerned about damaging the filter if too much force was applied, but this was not an issue. If the filter to be removed was on too tight, it might be damaged, but I'm not too worried about damaging a filter I'm about to dispose of anyway. And of course there's no reason to use too much force tightening the new filter. The tool is well made, and should last a long time, and the price was very reasonable. Recommended.

A Wonder Tool for the Home Mechanic
This tool is a must for everyone who changes their own oil. After failing to remove a stubborn oil filter from a 2002 Camry (which I accidentally over-tightened myself) I ordered this tool and successfully removed the filter. I had the correct size end cap filter but it would slip over the slight ridges on the installed oil filter. This tool does not slip! Before ordering I read negative comments about this tool being clumsy in INSTALLING a filter. I would not use this tool to install a new filter, but then many mechanics recommend HAND TIGHTENING anyhow. I am sure that if you spun on a new oil filter by hand until it made contact with the base, you COULD use this tool to finish the 1/2 to 3/4 turn. Finally I found this same tool selling for much more money on other websites. This is a great buy.

Works perfectly
I've changed my own oil for 40 years, and I've tried cap wrenches and band wrenches often enough to dislike them. Too often a cap wrench doesn't fit a filter well enough to turn a tight filter, and band wrenches often don't fit into a filter's tight surrounding space. Recently the time came for my first do-it-myself oil change on my new car. The filter was hard to reach, and I knew it was going to be tough to loosen. This wrench looked good, and I decided to give it a try. I'm completely satisfied. This wrench grabbed the filter without slipping. My only problem was applying enough strength to get the filter loose. How do mechanics get them on so tightly? The wrench scratched the filter's paint where the tool's edges dug in, but I'm 100% indifferent to that - it just demonstrated how much grip this wrench can apply. The range of filter sizes the wrench fits is immense - I think it'll be right for any car or pickup truck on the planet. Oil filter wrenches are not exciting, generally, but having effective tools gives a person a good feeling, and this wrench is effective.

Great, but Fell apart after first few uses.
Great product for the money - until it falls apart! Iโm not sure if I received a lemon or what, but about the 4th or 5th time i used this (on a 6.7 Cummins truck) it just exploded into pieces! Apparently the three screws that keep this tool together all backed out at the same time and I was unable to find them to reassemble it. Yes, I could have returned the item and waited a couple weeks to get another - but I decided it wasnโt worth it. I found 3 small bolts of the same thread pitch, cut them down to length, and used red Loctite to fasten everything back together. Works pretty well again - but I shouldnโt have to deal with that!

Good product - takes some getting used to
Good product - we bought it for a 2017 C-RV and it works fine. Rotate the unit until the arms flow the way you need (after the max) - get used to it before you get under the car. Works good to reach deep spots with ratchet extension. Good for removing over-tightened oil filters from over zealous mechanics. It is a cheaper option than the Honda tool, but still over priced so I removed one star. I've only used this to remove, so can't comment on tightening but i expect it would work fine. I have enough room to hand tighten. Doesn't hurt for any home mechanic to have one of these around. 5/20/2023..bought in 2018, Lasted a solid 5 years..got lots of good use from it before it just broke...updated from 4 to 5 stars. Ordered another.
