Nice train, but part plastic
Our son just unwrapped this tonight and he loves the train. It clearly lets you know Emily's name (which is nice for toddlers learning about naming), and each time the button is pushed the headlight is triggered along with one of a few different phrases. The headlight automatically shuts off after a short period of time after the button pushing is over (or multiple button pushes as the case may be with a toddler) so the batteries are not easily run down. On this Emily, the back quarter of the front section is plastic, along with the coal on the tender as well as the wheels. Although I haven't opened it, it appears relatively easy to access and replace the 2 AG13/LR44 button batteries with the appropriate screwdriver. The prior versions of the Thomas Wooden Railway trains seemed to be of high quality make than the Fisher Price Thomas Wooden Railway trains. The Fisher Price versions of the wooden Thomas trains seem to be much sloppier in both fit and paint than the Tomy, Learning Curve, and Gullane versions. It is noticeable in the details such as the alignment of the coal on the tender and the way the parts are fitted together. Despite this, I would recommend this train for children, who rarely care nearly as much about such details as adults. If you are an adult collector of Thomas trains, you may want to choose differently.:: rob's wife

Emily derails a lot.
I bought Talking Emily for my two year old's wooden railway set. He has a bunch of other engines. The engine and tender are beautiful and Emily has a few neat things to say, just like the other talking engines.Unfortunately her layout is that she has large center wheels These should have been positioned just slightly higher than her 'main' wheels that match the wheels on the tender. As it is she doesn't move around the track as well as the other engines. For example, when she goes down ramps and other things she tends to simply fall off or become derailed.

A classic toy your kids will love
"I'm Emily...I will drive you crazy, but your kids will love me".Nicely constructed wooden train that talks (whether you like it or not). I wish she'd throw in something random sayings sometimes like "My wheels are killing me, can't wait to knock back some WD-40 after work".

Made for a happy little boy
This was a gift, and our little friend absolutely loved it! As a massive Thomas fan, to get something for his birthday that looked *exactly* like it does in the show was a big deal to him. A very happy little boy indeed.

I bought this for my son for Christmas. He has had it less than a month and it no longer talks. At first, we thought it was just the batteries, but even after changing the batteries, it does not work. We may have just gotten a dud. My son still plays with it, but it doesn't talk nor does the light work.
