My Little Pony: The Movie Prequel (MLP The Movie) Paperback – Illustrated, August 29, 2017

Fun read overall. Strong art and story do a lot of plot development that was missing from the movie. Would definitely recommend for anyone that liked the characters in the movie but wanted to know more about how they ended up where they were during the movie. There is more of an explanation for Tempest and Capper than for Captain Caeldano, so if you're looking for in-depth backstory on the pirates (other than "they were pirates"), you're going to have to look somewhere else (hopefully it's out there!).

A MUST for any Brony who wants to know the backstories for some of the new characters for the upcoming movie! I'm glad I could get this weeks before the movie hits theaters - now I've got a better understanding of what my drive the characters along their story lines :D

My 5 year old loves MLP. She can’t read all of this book yet but she loves it anyway. Can’t wait until she can read all of it o her own.

When I say this has problems with continuity, I am not talking about in regards to the upcoming MLP film (which I haven't seen yet) nor am I talking about in regards to the TV series; as far as I can tell, it fits in fine with the series (though as of right now I've only seen the first six seasons; I haven't watched any episodes of the current season they're releasing yet). I am talking strictly about compared to the MLP book, "Stormy Road To Canterlot", also a prequel to the movie.The comic is made up of four chapters. First, we meet the Storm King who, it would seem, will be the main villain of the film. He is the leader of an army of bandits who travel throughout the land in a fleet of airships, invading different nations and plundering their wealth. Their latest conquest is the land of Abyssinia, a kingdom of sentient cat-people. Among their treasure, the Storm King also steals a glowing green rock which the cat people call the Misfortune Malachite. They try to warn him that it brings horrible luck and ruin to whoever possesses it, but the Storm King ignores them and leaves with their treasure and the stone. However, he is about to learn the warning about the stone bringing bad luck is all too true...Next we meet a different group of air-pirates, lead by a bird-woman, Captain Celaeno. Although they make their living robbing cargo ships, it is made clear early on Celaeno isn't really bad, she cares a great deal about her crew and consider them like family. One day they get an unexpected visit from a stranger who tells them the location of the Storm Kings fleet and that there will be plenty of treasure they can steal. Celaeno is hesitant, feeling the risk may be too great, but her crew are all gung-ho for robbing him. Celaeno then agrees, and they mission goes underway...Then we get a story centering around Chummer and Capper, two cat thieves who appear in the first two stories are the main focus here. During the Storm Kings raid on Abyssinia they stowed away on one of his ships, then during the battle between the Storm King and Celeano they stole on of Cleanos ships and managed to escape. Their story begins with them crashing in the desert. In the wreckage they find the Misfortune Stone which had been placed their during the raid on the Storm Kings fleet. Not knowing what it is (apparently only their king and queen knew about the stone) they take it with them, hoping they might be able to sell it to someone for the right price. They then walk to the nearest town, a place called Klugetown, and begin their usual gig of stealing from its residents. But their thieving ways soon attracts some unwanted attention...Finally, we meet Tempest, the broken-horned unicorn from the movie trailer, where she finds the Misfortune stone (after it is lost by the cat thieves) and then becomes the target of the Storm King and his army. And herein lies the problems, at least if you read the other movie prequel, "Stormy Road To Canterlot". In the book, Tempest sneaks on to a caravan leaving a town she's currently staying in. When the caravan gets attacked, she sneaks off and flees without anyone else noticing she was there. She does not meet with any of the other people driving the caravan. As she flees she runs into the Storm Kings right-hand man Grubber, a small, chubby creature. He tells her that they were quite impressed with her bravery and resilience, and he tells her the Storm King could restore her horn if she agrees to work for him. After meeting the Storm King, he sends her on a mission to steal a magic pearl from the Queen of the Hippogriffs. Only after that mission is over do they then go on to invade Equestria.Here's what happens in the comic: after stealing the stone and then leaving town, Tempest starts a new friendship with Rambler, who is the only other pony in town. (All the other residents are of other species.) He invites her onto the caravan without her having to sneak on. When the Storm Kings army attacks Rambler puts on Tempests cloak and runs away, hoping to draw away the enemy soldiers. Tempest is about to escape but then runs into the Storm King himself (not Grubber) who then offers to restore her horn if she'll agree to work for him. She then tells him he can get all the magic he needs by invading Equestria, there is no invading the Hippogriff kingdom to steal a pearl.This can be quite bothersome for any MLP fan who considers the books and comics to be cannon and reads both this comic and the book. I really wish Sadie Chesterfield (the author of the book) and Jeremy Whitley had conferred with each other to make sure their stories didn't contradict each other in anyway. As is it would seem to be an either/or situation: you can either consider the book prequel to be the "true" prequel, or the comic (specifically the last story, the one involving Tempest) to be the "real" prequel, but not both.Finally, none of the characters from the TV series actually appear in any of the stories, despite being on the front cover. The stories in the comic are all about the new characters who make their debut in the film. I wasn't really bothered by this, but I can understand some people having a problem with it. It is something you should know before buying.

Fantastic throughout, with Capper's story being the highlight. But as it peaks there, it's one chapter too early, Tempest's story makes for a rather weak final issue

My MLP Movie 8 year old loved it. Written like a graphic novel with beautiful illustrations. It helped provide more background to the movie.

this Comic is great for those mlp fans and its got great history of the bad guys must read before the My Little Pony movie comes out

The book is in great condition, *****However, Amazon prints the label and then throws it off to the side for four days. Shipping took 3. You deliberately added four extra days to the shipping for no reason.
