Heal Your Leaky Gut: The Hidden Cause of Many Chronic Diseases

This doctor is an excellent communicator! I am very happy to read his books as he takes great care to explain things that I otherwise would never know. He not only encourages down-to-earth thinking about health issues but he has delved deeply into finding and understanding that there are natural-to-the-body practical solutions and he explains the subject explicitly because he has studied and tested and learned the secrets of the physiology explicitly.

Love this book. I've loaned it out multiple times and bought extras for when others have it. When people say about most books that they can find the same thing on the Internet, I disagree -- it's comparable to saying that every word in this review is found on the internet (other than this exact review which is on the internet here) ... because technically you can find all these words on the internet, but only the true source has them assembled the same way to give some sort of meaningful context. The book gives the reader plenty of information to have a great conversation with appropriate questions or requests of your primary care physician... or ideas on what to look for in your next primary care physician's knowledge.

An easy read full of information and tips for dealing with a common and troublesome health issue most people are unaware of. I always enjoy the tidbits of history about events that have impacted our food chain, medical system, etc. without any awareness on our part.

I bought this for my mother who has suffered with an undiagnosed leaky gut for years. None of her doctors could successfully diagnose her problems. They kept prescribing test after test, and multiple prescriptions, but nothing solved the problems. They simply don't have the knowledge needed in this area (even the Internal Medicine specialist and Gastroenterologist specialists couldn't help her). She was on proton pump inhibitors for 10 or 11 years, to the point where she was severely malnourished, even though she was eating. The nutrients were not being absorbed, due to lack of enough stomach acid. The food would pass through, eventually rotting along the way causing gas, bloating and pain. As a side effect, it was also aggravating her anxiety and depression. Thank goodness for Dr. Brownstein who actually wants to heal his patients rather than string them along with endless office visits or worse yet hand them over to big pharma. Of course some drugs are necessary, but many are just to line the pockets of big pharma, regardless of the side effects.

This book is loaded with extremely helpful tidbits of practical and reasonable info. that no one else seems to speak about. I love that Dr. Brownstein speaks from personal experience with many patients. This book is easy to read and helps you look at the basics before getting too out of whack by reading all the strange ideas out there. I think he is a real hero who really cares about people and it comes through in everything he shares!

Not as informative as I thought it would be. Some good insights but no real plan of action.

Although I was aware of how much diet affects our everyday health Dr. Brownstein describes at a high level the causes of many diseases and illnesses as well as the effects on his patients after his eyes were opened as a practitioner.
