The Bottom Line: If you find modern "contoured" earplugs too stiff or pressurized, these classic E-A-R cylinders are the softest, most customizable solution for a quiet night's sleep. Performance & Comfort: I’ve tried the newer, bell-shaped molded earplugs, but they often feel like they are "pushing back" against my ear canal. These 3M E-A-R Classics are different. The PVC foam is uniquely soft and has a much slower recovery time. When you roll them down, they stay compressed long enough for you to get them positioned perfectly, and then they very gently and slowly fill the canal. This gradual expansion prevents that "clogged" or pressurized feeling that leads to ear aches by morning. Nightly Use (The Sleep Test): I use these specifically for sleeping, and they are a lifesaver for side-sleepers. Because they are more flexible and cylindrical, they don't poke out or get pushed uncomfortably deep when my ear hits the pillow. They effectively dampen ambient noise—like a snoring partner or street traffic—without making me feel completely deaf to my alarm clock. Packaging & Hygiene: This 5-pair poly bag is convenient for travel, though I do wish they came with a small hardshell carrying case. However, the moisture-resistant foam is a plus; they don't get "soggy" or lose their shape if you tend to get warm at night. Pros: Low-pressure foam: Significantly softer than the "high-vis" orange molded styles. Slow expansion: Gives you plenty of time for proper insertion. Classic cylindrical shape: Doesn't create "hot spots" or pressure points during side-sleeping. Cons: Textured surface: They have a slightly rougher texture than silicone plugs, which might take a night or two to get used to. Final Verdict: For anyone who has struggled with ear discomfort from "modern" earplugs, go back to the classics. These are the most comfortable foam plugs on the market for long-term wear.

Ever since I adopted two kittens 2 years ago, I've grown accustomed to use earplugs in my sleep to make sure I have as better sleep as possible - don't get me wrong, I love my cats and in general they did adjust to my schedule, but still once a while they might be jumping around at 5:30 am or purr like a human's snoring for no obvious reason. I wore out a few pairs about 6 months ago and were on the hunt to find nice and comfortable ones -- unfortunately I don't even remember where I got my old ones (which I got a few years back). I've purchased like 5 pairs with different styles and materials before this: regular bullet looking foam type, swimmer type with some stems, corded one, soft silicon jelly ones that molds into your ear, which by the way is the worst to me. These yellow little foam earplugs can easily be squeezed into the ear and they are very soft and comfortable. I don't wake up in the morning (or even in the middle of the night) and feel my ears hurting like some of the others do, which I suspect they just somehow expand during my sleep to their original size. Bonus: I thought it's only one pair but turned out there are 5 pairs inside one pack. For the price you really can't beat them!

I ordered these 3M EAR Classics and a pack of Mack's Thermafits after being recommended both for an earplug that was exceptionally comfortable and effective at blocking out snoring. Both worked well, but these 3Ms won out over the Thermafits for being a little shorter in length, and thus more comfortable for my kid-sized ear canals. Otherwise they're nearly identical, with the same uncoated open cell foam that molds to the shape of your earholes and keeps it in place all night. My husband snores like a jet engine and once these were properly placed (it is VERY IMPORTANT to follow the instructions!) I could hardly hear a thing besides my alarm going off in the morning. You could probably get 2-3 days of use out of each pair, depending on how waxy/dirty your earholes are. tl;dr - if you have short, small, and sensitive ear canals, are a side sleeper, and are in desperate need of something to shut out snoring, these are the best disposable earplugs you'll get at this price point.
