What does running it on batteries do? I don't see difference with running or without?

Batteries run the mechanism which allows you to empty the clip one shot at a time. You must let it spin up for a couple seconds though. You go through 10 darts really fast! Why did it come with no clip or darts, when it says it comes with both?

The one I purchased came withe clip and 24 foam darts, works great!!!!
