A huge upgrade from a cheap arm. A quality product.
Using this with a Blue Yeti. Also using a sound damping device. The plastic one, not the Blue Yeti damping product. The plastic product was approx $20 so seemed like a prudent purchase and seems to satisfy the need. No problems and no one comments on keyboard noise. This arm is sooooo much better than the arm that arrived in the "kit" with the Blue Yeti. No comparison. This arm is well made, sturdy, and stays in the position where placed. It does not "drift" after letting go, like the old arm. Also, the 2 segments of the arm are a fair bit longer than the cheap arm. I read somewhere that each segment is 19". For my setting, this brought the mic closer to my mouth. It has a significantly longer "reach" than the old arm. The clamp on base is secure and easy to use. The screw has a comfortable "ear" to tighten the screw and secures to the work surface nicely. The only shortcoming is a very, very minor one. The USB cord fits in the "U" shape of the arms, and a plastic piece clips inside the U to hide the usb wire. For my setup, the plastic piece doesn't secure very well. The wire inside causes the plastic piece to release at the end. Super easy fix with a short segment of double sided velcro wrapped around that part of the arm. Perhaps a thinner USB wire that is more supple would solve the issue? Such a minor issue, I just haven't bothered experimenting. Very pleased with this product. Worthy of all stars.

This boom is amazing. Highly Recommended.
Wow. I made the mistake of buying this one and a couple of the el cheapo $20 booms. I say "mistake" because while the $20 was perfectly fine, it was no comparison to this Heil boom. ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON. Let's talk about those cheaper ones, shall we? The cheaper ones are mostly copies of each other. The cheaper ones all have external springs, two 15" boom arm segments, and a cheap table bracket. Some come with the mic holder, some even come with an XLR cable threaded through. The ones that have no cable threaded through, a few offer cable ties for cord management (because you have to run your cord somewhere), and of those that offer cable ties, a few offer a nice hook and loop tape cable management solution. This Heil boom has INTERNAL CABLE MANAGEMENT with an easy-to-remove track cover, stress relief covers over the corners so your cable doesn't pinch, INTERNAL SPRINGS, and amazing 20" boom arm segments! That extra 10" (5" extra per segment compared to the cheaper products) makes a HUGE difference in reach and mic placement. This is perfect for heavy mics like the AT2020USB (which is what I use, plus a windscreen and shockmount) and the Blue Yeti (my backup mic, the AT2020USB is so much better for my voice). This Heil boom is much heavier duty, and can support much heavier mics with ease. The cheaper ones you really have to torque down the nuts at the joints to handle heavy mics and in the process you can damage the screws and handles. You'll have none of that issue with this boom. So, back to my earlier statement. I bought this one and a cheapie one just to compare, but having them side by side, I ended up sending the cheaper one back. If I had been smart, I would've only bought the cheap one then I wouldn't have known what I was missing. If you're just starting out, the cheaper one is perfectly fine. Just don't make the same mistake I made, because once you try this one out, you'll be in love. TL:DR; This boom is perfect for getting my mic off the desk so I can concentrate on my podcast and voiceover work. Hope this helps!

but -1 for a clamp that may or may not be right for your setup The arm is sturdy and great for my heavy Blue Yeti
5 stars for the arm itself, but -1 for a clamp that may or may not be right for your setup The arm is sturdy and great for my heavy Blue Yeti, but the clamp that comes with it doesn't quite have enough surface area for a stable grip on desk if you want to have full, carefree movement of the arm. Basically if you pull it away from or perpendicular to the desk with enough force to actually adjust the arm it is likely that the clamp will start to come loose (and this is with some pretty hefty tightening, mind you). The grip pad on the clamp also started to slide off due to this movement and heavy friction. The clamp worked fine in other positions that put a little bit less strain so mileage may vary based on the sort of setup that you're going for. Don't know if it was just me but I started using a RODE PSA1 clamp for my Heil in the exact same position and it works absolutely flawlessly no matter how much I push and pull to adjust it or move it out of the way due to the large surface area of the RODE and the fact that the mounting point does not hang off of the desk like with the Heil. I keep my microphone and mount hanging off the desk 99% of the time between just moving it out of the way and keeping it on me when I'm leaning back, and the clamp was definitely starting to slip no matter how tightly I tried to adjust it. That being said, the Heil arm itself is fantastic. Heil does sell other mounting solutions but I do wish the one that they actually included was a little more stable

Quiet movement and stable, easy to use
The Heil PL-2T is among the best audio accessories I have ever used. I have a studio in my office from which I record my daily radio show on 560 KLZ-AM in Denver, Colorado by ISDN on occasion. I also do in-house recording work for my business and for radio station use. This mic stand is extremely quiet for this host who moves from computer to computer to gather information for my political commentary as well as bring up audio clips while on air. I can readjust the microphone in the middle of the program with zero noise giving me the best efficiency I have ever had during the show. The removable plastic clips which hide the audio cable work very well and help me avoid the painful exercise of cutting off the XLR to feed the wire through the stand and reattaching it afterward. Just remove the clips, feed the wire and you're done. And the channel which carries the wire is loose enough for me to make adjustments as needed. Perfectly balanced with a flexible mount, this is an excellent product which can be used in amateur and professional environments.

Poor product design and manufacturing
Included clamp is absolute junk, throw it away and buy an aftermarket one. The desk clamp's hole size is way too big for the boom stem, and there is no screw to tighten down on the stem, so it will wobble inside the clamp, and make a loud clunking noise when you adjust the boom arm. Getting tired of having to source aftermarket parts for Heil products that are poorly made and don't function correctly right out of the box.

Lots Of Boom For The Buck!
If you are serious about your audio production, this is the mic boom for you! I love the build of my Heil. It is really easy to assemble and is made of quality black coated steel. Springs are built inside of arm so it doesn't look all robotic. It's a clean professional design and is a welcome addition to any studio. Cords are also hidden thanks to nifty little covers that protect and hide them so they are not hazardous when working with little desk space. The arm is solid when moved, it adjusts and stays anywhere you put it. Holding mics up to five pounds without worry. I love it! Good design, good quality, great price! Don't take my word, you will see when they're all gone!

Great professional quality, but consider the HB-1
I've been pod casting for around 8 months, and decided to upgrade my equipment. To help with my desk space I decided a microphone boom would be a great addition to my equipment and decided to purchase the PL-2T. The next day (after my order had shipped) I spotted a deal on another website that had the PR-40 Microphone- the HEiL shock mount for the PR-40, and the HB-1 microphone boom all for $380. I jumped at the offer and decided to put the HB-1 and PL-2T booms to the test. The PL-2T offered a much cleaner experience than the HB-1 as it includes a cable management system. This would be a large benefit to people who are incorporating video into their broadcast, but I'm audio only so I wasn't concerned. The PL-2T offered more fluid movement and felt sturdier, but I don't need to move the mic around a whole lot during recording so again the HB-1 covered what I needed. Overall with the PL-2T at more than double the price of the HB-1 I couldn't justify the expense. If your on video, or you find yourself moving the microphone around a lot during recording the PL-2T might suit your needs more. For me the HB-1 took care of what I needed, and I've got no qualms with the build quality of either model.

Awesome mic arm
Awesome mic arm!! I couldn't be happier with it! I was worried that it would not hold my Yeti Pro and shock mount because they have some heft to them. But this thing holds them up like a champ! When I move my mic into place it stays there. It doesn't sink, or wobble, it just stays. Like it's being glued in place every time! If I had to say something negative about it, it would probably be the logo. It's kind of ugly and I wish they had only put it on the base, not on the top joint of the arm as well. But seriously, if my largest complaint about this product is the logo, then that really show's you what kind of product you are buying!

mi support done right - with tidy cable management
I have been trying a few cheaper options - but their build quality - stability and cable management have all fallen short. This arm - that I have secured using the DT1 desk adaptor is rock solid - and cables are almost invisible.
