OMG, amazing!
OMG, these are amazing! I have gotten so many compliments since switching to these curlers. I always use hot rollers. I'm 35 with hair 2-3 inches below my shoulders and my hair is thick. I always used the standard rollers - you know the ones. The Conair compact multi-size rollers. I only used the larger size, no super tight rollers for this long hair! Anyways, so people see me all the time with curls in my hair. Curlers make a huge difference in making hair look luxurious. I saw these rollers on QVC and they said they are the only rollers to use for long hair. They showed using them and the results and I was mesmerized. But! The price was better on Amazon.com. So I bought them here, and from the very first moment I used them my friends started saying "wow, your hair looks amazing! Love your new haircut." my mom who never gives compliments even gave several. Not just one but several to the point where she said "you should curl your hair every day." And I do. So the secret to curlers if you haven't used them before is to 1) use mouse when the hair is wet, 2) blow dry or air dry your hair and turn the curlers on when blow drying the hair (these have a heat sensor dot on the top of each curler which tells you when they are ready, takes a couple minutes to heat up). 3) use the curlers and the clips (these types of the clips are the only to use. if you buy other curlers that don't come with the banana style clip, do yourself a favor and buy some medium banana clips. without them they are hard to put in. with them, curlers take less than 4 minutes to put in the hair. be sure to roll the hair either towards the back or the front (both are great to give a natural look) but never roll your hair down or up. That's the old fashioned look that's no longer popular. 4) if you have thin hair I've heard to do something like brush your teeth and then pull out the clips. I have thick hair so I brush my teeth, and put on some make-up for like 4 minutes and then I take them out. 5) Then sometimes I hair-spray the hair, but most of the time I just leave it as is and my hair is ready for the day. 6) I don't comb or brush my hair after unrolling the curlers but instead sometimes finger separate the curls. Good luck! Update: these are still going strong after 6 months of heavy use. I also didn't mention how to maintain your hair if you are new to using curlers. They do tend to dry out your hair. So I now wash my hair every other day to keep the oils in check. I also use deep conditioner. One hairdresser said to use little hair sheets on the ends of my hair, but they are a pain and really not needed. I cut my hair about once every 6 months and the amount of dead ends is limited at best. If anything, I'd say that these heaters do not damage my hair as much as the Conair curlers did. Plus since they are still going strong this is great. Oh, I've also traveled a lot with these curlers and finally found a use for the black bag that it comes with. If you travel, don't put the curlers in the holder as it takes up too much space. I put the holder in my suitcase, and put the curlers in the black bag with the clips. This is much more compact and an appropriate size to put in the suitcase full of clothes on hangers. If you fold all of your clothes, then you won't need to do this and can use the bag as originally intended but I found it impossible to get the curlers in the bag with such height! But, alas, curlers in the bag with the holder separate works great.

If you have the right kind of hair, these are perfect (and the price is a STEAL!)
I purchased my 1st set from QVC and my 2nd and 3rd set here (I'm leaving 1 1/2 sets at home and 1 1/2 sets at my mom's, since I travel there often). First off, the price difference in UNbelievable. I paid over $100 for my 1st set, and even on the Calista tools website, these are $99. I have no idea how these are under $30 here. Amazing. QVC was selling a an add on set of 4 rollers and clips ONLY for $28 PLUS SHIPPING. It was MUCH cheaper to just purchase an entire new set here. I think there's very, very few hair styling products which work for everyone, and this is no different. I have long, thick hair, color treated hair, which tends towards frizzy. I use Hair One no sulfate free shampoo and this helps to control frizz. I wash my hair (no more than once per week, as any more and it gets too dry) and I let it air dry. Then I get out these rollers and put them in, starting from the top of my crown and working down (about 16 rollers for my hair). I leave them in until they are cool to the touch (about 30 minutes). Then I take them out and try to leave the curls in tact. I let my hair cool even further, about another 10 minutes. To style, i run my fingers through my hair, and use a wide tooth comb on my bangs only. Sometimes I do this with my head down, and my hair will get fuller. At night, I put my hair in a pony tail when I sleep. I don't use any styling products or hair spray 95% of the time. If the weather is not hot (where I'm sweating) and is relatively dry, my hair will look good for an entire week, again no styling products. My hair comes out smooth and shiny. If it is hot and humid then I use Ion Keratin Dry Oil Mist and One & Only Argon Oil Hair spray. These will keep my hair smooth in this type of weather. In some weather conditions, it doesn't matter what I do, my hair won't hold the curl, but that's very rare. I will still get body and wave with these rollers in this case. Pros: Heats up fast, easy to use, diameter makes great size curls, only rollers I've ever seen long enough for LONG hair, the base of the unit does NOT HEAT up. (and for me, the initial price elsewhere was a stretch). Cons: I need more curlers than 12 in basic set, they are heavy (I would not use these on fine hair), there is a learning curve to get used to putting them in without getting your fingers burned (simple solution for this, which I will probably do is purchase the gloves specifically for use with hot hair styling tools), at under $30 on Amazon, these are steal.

that you touch them and even though the curler core was super hot, they would not burn your fingers
I was very excited to find these on Amazon after watching an infomercial. I was especially excited to know that these were specifically for long hair. on the infomercial, it said that the curlers would not burn your fingers, that you touch them and even though the curler core was super hot, they would not burn your fingers. I found this not to be true and they have to be handled very specifically or you will be burned. During the informational also said that the curls be long-lasting.. I did not find this to be true. You have to wrap them specifically a certain way and then and only then will you get a wave and not really a curl that lasts all day long. I do like the volume that they give you but again it has be rolled specifically. I thought very seriously about returning these but I don't want to go through the effort of finding other ones so I'm going to keep them. But I will only give these a 2 to a 3 as a rating

I am very good at styling hair and over the years I have ...
I am very good at styling hair and over the years I have used many different types of hot rollers. These are, by far, the worst. First, the clip is way too small to hold all the hair on the long roller. My hair curls very easily, but I barely had any wave with these. The biggest drawback is that they are much too hot to handle and too heavy. I will go back to my steam rollers that give me an abundant amount of body and waves. Plus much easier and quicker to use. I really wanted to love these, but they need work.

Extra length a definite bonus
Pros: --The unique length of these, (5 inches!), makes them especially suited for areas where hair tends to fall off the sides of typical-length rollers. It's pretty easy to get a secure roll even if you're a little clumsy putting them in. --The base has a lighted on/off switch. (Not all roller sets do...) --One end of the rollers has heat indicator dots that change to white when they are hot. (And back to red when cool.) --The plug-end of the rollers has a circular charging port that makes it easy to set on the base. (No need to line up tabs to get them in correctly.) You do need to push them snugly into the base, but this isn't difficult. This is relevant for me because I often need to replace a roller (to get a fresh hot one) and it's nice to not be fumbling to put it back on the base. --I like that these have a hard plastic finish, (not flocked or velvety), and that they have little spiky nodes. The barrels are continuous, (no wedge cut-outs) and feel well-made. --They come with clips instead of pins. While I prefer pins for the smaller rollers, I think the clips are probably better suited for the additional mass of these rollers. --Everything stores away neatly in the enclosed zippered fabric case. Cons: --The length can feel bulky when all the curlers are used. I use a combination of these and smaller Conair rollers when doing my hair. (I like to wrap my head in a scarf so nothing is flopping around while I'm letting them cool. The extra length makes the scarf wrapping much more awkward than with smaller rollers.) --I initially ordered two sets of this style and was disappointed that not all of the curlers got hot. Reading through the reviews, it seems that this is a common issue - defective rollers. Instead of bothering with trying to get replacement parts, I decided to return the defective set. So, quality control appears to be a definite "con" - and one that just shouldn't happen at this price point. Overall: This is a terrific product. I docked one star for the quality issue but feel that the Pros outweigh the Cons for this set. The length is their shining feature and they have already found their space in my curling routine.

Barrel curls with hot rollers in less time than a wand
I'm always jealous of my teens because they seem to get beautiful barrel curls out of a wand in significantly less time than I've been able to manage. It's a BIG time commitment for me with long, thick hair and it tends not to "set" well. Since I had significant experience with the 80's big hair, I've always had the trusty hot rollers but with long hair it's hard to replicate the barrel curl. I've always thought someone needed to invent a longer roller set. Well, to my research surprise I came upon these Calista Tools long rollers. Hallelujah! I read other reviews, and I was really on the fence about purchasing, but decided to try them out. Here were the facts for me: 1) Quick heat up. The color dot changed from red to white in 3-4 minutes as promised. However, my first two rollers that I placed in my hair did not set quite as well as all of the others, so it leads me to believe they might not have been as hot as needed. In the future, I'll probably wait 5-6 minutes before placing the first roller. Not a deal breaker for me though! 2) Easy placement. I basically used the same technique for rolling in a spiral, away from the face as I would a barrel curler. The rollers have "teeth" on them, so they held my hair pretty well until I could get the clips on the roller. 3) Clips.....I included a pic of the original clips compared to a bigger clip I own. Realistically if you have any sort of layers in your hair, I think you'll find it easier to use one big clip or use 2 of the smaller clips included. That means you'll probably need to purchase extra clips. I think you could probably get the job done with one clip but layered hair will come unraveled. 4) Quality of the curls: I included pictures for you to see. I loved the size of the curls. Allowing the rollers to cool down & "set" in my hair while I was doing my makeup is a huge thumbs up in my book. Saves time & really gives it a quality curl that will last. 5) Weight & heat: The rollers are a bit heavy on the head but it was not an issue for me. If you are super sensitive to this or maybe you're considering doing a young girl's hair, maybe weight would be an issue??? But not for me. I also saw where others complained of the heat and handling the rollers. They were definitely not super hot to me. As a matter of fact, I actually wondered if they were hot enough to produce a good curl. My traditional hot rollers feel much hotter than these. The teeth on these long rollers seem to keep your fingers off the direct heat. I'm definitely satisfied with my purchase on Day 1. Hopefully they'll have good longevity.

I am a somewhat disappointed! The curls/waves just did not hold
I have used these rollers for three days now. Must admit, I am a somewhat disappointed! The curls/waves just did not hold. I have fairly thick, shoulder length hair, with layers. My hair is heavy, and does not hold a curl, or a wave easily. I usually blow dry with a round brush, but it takes WAAY too long. I also have a set of skinny "spiral" hot rollers, but they take forever to roll up, give me fishtail ends, and start off as crazy Shirley Temple curls before settling into a nice soft curl/wave! That said, however, my old "spiral" rollers give me a final result that lasts into the next day! Nevertheless, I was looking for something more convenient, quicker, easier to roll...my spiral rollers are such a pain in the butt that I only use them for special occasions. SO, I was very excited to read about these Calista rollers! The rollers do heat up super fast, and grab the hair for an easy quick roll up--no fear of fishtails (yay! I was excited about this!). I did need to use two clips for most rollers, as I did big swaths of hair--to fit the long rollers! The first day, I used the rollers with no hair product--just rolled up on dry, unwashed hair. After leaving the rollers in for about 15 minutes, I was pleased with the result--soft curls. Sadly, the curls were KA-PUT within about two hours. My hair was still smoothed out and didn't look like I had just rolled out of bed, so not a total disaster, but not what I had aspired to. The second day, I used the rollers on freshly washed but mostly blow-dried hair (just dried w/head upside down, no style brushing). Again, no styling product. My theory was that the unwashed hair the day before may have been weighed down too much by oils to hold the curl? Left the curlers in 15 minutes. After removing the curlers, I was again pleased with the result. I spritzed with hairspray. Nevertheless, the curls/waves were again KA-PUT within two hours. DAY THREE--tried the curlers this time with BB styling product sprayed on each section of hair I rolled up. The rolling was still quick and easy, a definite plus. Again, I was pleased with the result. And I think the curls held more than the 2 hours of previous days...but not much more than 4! Curls and waves were totally gone by lunch :-( So, overall disappointed, but the rollers do give an overall smoothing effect, even if they won't hold curls or waves in my hair--and since the rollers are so quick and easy (takes less than 5 minutes to roll my head)--not a total loss. Just not what I had hoped for! Looks like I am stuck with my old skinny spirals for special occasions!

Work great, heat quickly!
I LOVE these hot rollers! I bought these as a Christmas gift for myself and have been using them for two months now. I'm a stay-at-home mom and don't style my hair much because I just don't have time to stand there. But these heat up SO fast that I can turn them on while I wash my face,... it takes less than 5 minutes to put them in and I leave them in while I do makeup, and by the time I'm done with that - BOOM - hair is curled, shake it out and go. I love that they heat up so fast. And they are not too hot to handle right off the heating element. The clips hold well. I love that the rollers are nice and long. I have a lot of hair and fairly thick, and this set easily does my whole head with sometimes one roller left over. The ONLY complaint - if I had to find one, is that I wish there was a dust cover for them. It comes with a fabric travel case, but it's not ideal for covering them up. A dust cover would be a bonus to these awesome hot rollers.
