Great on dark brown hair!
I have virgin (never dyed) very dark chestnut brown hair, with a natural white streak (birthmark), and the Espresso glaze really enriched and deepened my color! I wanted to tone down my summer brassy highlights and it absolutely did the trick. It’s like a purple shampoo for cool toned dark hair. As far as smoothing, omg! My hair is so smooth and shiny and soft! The scent is a tad strong for me, reminiscent of that Baby Soft perfume from the 90s, and it lingers but it’s not unpleasant. It also didn’t weigh down my natural wavy-curls like some treatments do. Like other reviewers have said, the bottle sucks but knowing that I just dumped about half the bottle into an aluminum bowl before I started for my below-shoulder length hair and that was just enough to get each section really saturated. I also left it in for 20 minutes bc I forgot lol. It emulsifies really well in the shower and rinses clean (didn’t stain my towels). Disclaimer: it doesn’t cover greys but it did tone my white streak violet, so it’s more silver and blends in which is kind of a bummer bc I like it but it doesn’t look bad at all! Also, it doesn’t stain your skin but did ruin my light colored gel mani and cuticles 😂 my own fault for not wearing gloves though. Overall loved it, will purchase again.

don't use if you have highlights in your hair
I had blonde highlights until I got my hair colored a beautiful, rich mid-tone brown about 4 months ago. I've colored it brown now twice professionally at a salon, and love it for the first few weeks, but found it fades within a month or two since the professional brown color was applied over previously bleached hair. So instead of spending another several hundred dollars at a salon I thought I'd give a home semi-permanent glaze a go.. Do not. This product is really best for natural brunettes or those who have never bleached or colored their hair in a way that opened the hair shaft. I had the color on my 10 mins as prescribed and it turned by ends BLACK. Blue-black to be specific. Then after 1 wash, they're a dark teal (as in this photo). It looks like manic panic and is uneven and patchy. Ease of Use: This product is really no easier than a regular home box dye. It gets absolutely everywhere, doesn't come with gloves to protect you from staining, which by god it stains everything immediately. My nails were dark blue/black for days and it immediately stained the marble in my bathroom. Packaging: The bottle is poorly designed and doesn't let you get the product out without crushing it, which rendered it impossible to use for future uses. The instructions were useless and said nowhere on the packaging itself not to use on highlights or that the bottle was 2-3 uses worth of product. No one is going online to read what a bottle should tell us. They cheaped out on packaging by not giving an external box with surface area for more text to explain how to best use the product and chose a poor bottle shape and hardness instead for a cuter aesthetic experience. Update: I had to spend 5 hours in a hair salon professionally removing this dye from my hair. It took the colorist 2 rounds of 1 hour applications of color extractor sulfur to pull the blue dye out. She stressed that this is not a semi-permanent dye if it is this difficult to remove. The labelling of this as a "tinted moisturizer for your hair" is super misleading and not true to the staying power of the dye on highlighted hair. This attaches permanently to highlighted hair. It cost me $400 to remove and color over. Won't use again.

OBSESSED
The first picture in gray shirt if after and the 2nd pic in black is before !! I like darker hair so I usually use the redken 3N to gloss my hair and this is the perfect color to match that shade ! I did mine on dry hair and let sit for 30 minutes and my hair is so rich in color so so so shiny and super soft I was so shocked at how good this product worked ! It did rinse out a purple color but I lovvveeeeee this dark color I have thick curly hair (I did a blowout after to see color better ) and I used half the bottle to cover everything

2.5 Stars…
I bought this because it is cheaper than the $39 alternative I normally use, but, it’s really not worth it. Here’s why: Blotchy, Uneven coverage- The product is so viscous that you have to actually use a lot more in order to cover all of your hair and it’s very difficult to get even coverage. You’d need to comb it through your hair in order to spread evenly, which I did not do. The viscosity of the product also makes it difficult to get out of the bottle, which means you’re also not getting your money’s worth there. I do have the same problem with other similar and more expensive treatments I put on my hair. The difference is it’s easier to get the product out with a pump or soft bottle that you can cut with scissors to get the product out. With other products I have diluted it to get all of the product out and the results were just as good. I left mine on all night and the places that were covered look perfect, however, my hair is definitely blotchy and not fully covered. I don’t really care because I usually dye my hair with henna once a week and I just wanted something for the in-between. When I put it in a ponytail it looks great because the hair exposed was the hair easiest to cover with the dye. Shine- I do agree that it adds shine to the hair and made my hair feel soft. Does it last? - Semi-permanent hair color is not supposed to last and will start washing out on the 1st wash. When it washes out, you don’t really know what it’s going to look like, so you either have to continue use or dye your hair to fix the problem. I recommend henna. I’m thinking I will mix this with my other conditioners to make my color last.

Grey grow out...
I have light/medium brown hair that I have always dyed dark brown/black but it was starting to grow out with grey and so the demarcation line looked more harsh. I decided to start growing my grey out now at 40 because I feel like if I wait until I am starting to wrinkle and look old then it will be another blow to my self esteem to also be dealing with accepting grey hair. I want to be one of those old ladies with long beautiful grey hair, not the short chop most older women get because the grow out phase was looking ratchet. This product will be perfect for that because I can still keep up my roots and then just gradually let it fade once it is all grown out. The dye didn't tint all of my greys and I felt a little disappointed at first with that but once it dried and I looked at it again I actually like how there are a few greys because it makes my dyed hair look more natural, like it was always dark brown black and is just getting a few greys. The demarcation is blended and I can still have dark hair without any of the damage. I'm really glad this is going to work. I'd give 5 stars if it tinted the greys a little but I'm also not mad it didn't get them all.

Well…
Honest review. I realize this is a semi permanent hair color and on the instructions says it does not cover grays. Well, that was definitely true. Didn’t touch my grays. As for the rest of my hair, it did provide a bit more gloss and slight color but not enough for me to feel like it made a huge difference. Messy: the bottle is not designed well at all. It does not come with gloves either. Putting this product on my hair was a challenge from the start as it was so difficult to squeeze product from the hard plastic bottle. The design of the bottle is terrible too as trying to grip and squeeze with gloves on proved to be quite challenging. It was pretty messy. I really wanted this to work but I thinks this is more like a colored conditioner than anything. I will not be buying again nor will I be using the rest. Just my two cents.

Would Repurchase!
I just used this yesterday. So here’s the thing. I would definitely repurchase, it’s pretty great. The color, the shine, the softness, chefs kiss. I didn’t mind the smell, it wasn’t choking with chemicals like usual hair dye. It’s just a different smell but I didn’t mind it. It doesn’t squeeze easily out of the bottle so I did have to take the cap off and just dump it into my hand like a ketchup bottle. Which brings me to the other point down, you’re gonna need gloves. It stains like nobody’s business. It’s the next day and I’ve been scrubbing my hands at every opportunity and my nails are still stained so make sure to wear gloves. Trust me, just wear the dang gloves. I have shoulder length hair that’s pretty thick so I felt like I ended up using more than half of the bottle so if you have thick hair as well or long hair, you might need 2 bottles. It’s a pretty thick consistency so it’s not the easiest to spread through your hair, it took me more than the 10 mins of processing so I probably had this in my hair for a good 20 mins before rinsing it out. I did shampoo it twice, it took forever to rinse out and once I added shampoo it started to rinse blue but I think that’s just from the color of the shampoo and the hair glaze meeting, my hair doesn’t have any sort of blue tint to it at all. I noticed the softness right away. My hair feels like it had a deep conditioner treatment. It’s shiny enough that my husband noticed and he never notices anything so I would call that a pretty good feat. It feels and looks like I just had my hair professionally done. Despite having it on my hair an extra 10 mins I don’t feel like it made it any darker than I was expecting. Overall, I would definitely repurchase and use this again. Yes the application is annoying but it’s literally a one step process so it’s fine. It’s worth the end results!!

Damaged my hair
I typically buy another hair gloss brand from Ulta, but this was cheaper, the packaging was cuter, and I've seen it getting hyped up on social media so I wanted to give it a try! I bought the color "sheer espresso" because I have chocolately dark brown hair. I received the correct product and was optimistic, but I am still recovering from the damage this caused months later. It dyed my hair a very dark black with red tint and caused breakage and damage like a box dye would. I was stunned and so upset! Most of it has faded but you can still see big chunks of black in sunlight or fluorescent lighting. And I didn't even know what to do about the breakage it caused besides cutting my hair off. I was so devastated after rinsing the product off that I threw out the still half-full bottle and vowed to never buy it again. The only pro is that it's long lasting. Unfortunately.

Great Color Correction and Shine
I have now purchased this item multiple times. Leaves hair feeling conditioned and color updated. It removed the red brassy faded effect from heat styling between professional color treatments. It does not cover grey hair but this is clearly stated in the packaging.

My hairdresser just got replaced
This product really delivers everything it promises. It gives me the same hair color as when I go to the hairdresser. On top of it my hair feels so soft and is very shiny/glossy. This product officially will replace my trips to the hairdresser. I love it and I will stick to this product.
