Generac 7009 LTE Propane Tank Fuel Level Monitor - Real-Time Gauge, Mobile Link Integration - Avoid Run-Outs - Compatible with Generac Generators - Reliable 4G LTE Coverage

I wrestled with whether or not to buy this initially, thinking "How hard is it to just walk out and look at the tank gauge?" However, my wife convinced me to get it since I always seemed to forget to check the propane level in a timely manner, and I'm really glad she did. Installation was super easy...just clip the cable onto the remote-ready gauge on the tank, then download the app and set up the account & cellular connection. Nothing to it. What I really like most about this item is that it interfaces with our EcoBee thermostat (also easy to set up), so now we can check the propane level with just a tap on the thermostat screen. Can also check the level remotely via the app. It looks like it's possible to set up the app to automatically schedule a refill when you get low, but I've not bothered to set this part up, so I can't really comment on how well it works. Overall, very pleased with this product.

***Further Update*** After some more back and forth, Generac is now hiding behind their End User License Agreement (EULA) that states they can remove features and functionality at ANY TIME, and you are agreeing to that by purchasing/using the product. No choice to opt out. This is the same tactic several software companies have used in the past that were deemed illegal. And they claim that the removal of usage history is a bug. Clearly it is not as they have issued multiple updates to their app and yet have not restored this functionality. Generac is obviously no longer a reputable company and all of their products need to be avoided. I used to love the ecobee thermostats, but they've destroyed those as well once they purchased the company. ***Update*** Generac refuses to issue a refund for this device saying that it is still reporting the tank percentage and therefore is working. However this is NOT how they describe the device at all. It is supposed to be providing usage history as well and they have REMOVED this. ***Update 5/2025*** Sadly I have to downgrade this to one star. Besides the issues in my original review below, now Generac has disabled the useful web portal and completely REMOVED all history, graphs, and configuration ability from the mobile app. All this unit now does is report the (incorrect - see below) tank percentage. I'm going to be asking them to give me my money back as this device does not work as described! Original review ------------------- I was torn between this device and the Centri. Was leaning towards the Centri for several reasons including the crazy annual charge for connectivity of the Generac unit. However, they recently changed it to be only $14.99/yr which makes it close to a 8 year payback for the Centri unit. I highly doubt either the unit or company will still exist by then. So I ordered this Generac unit. Like others, the minute I activated it, the app said "Batteries critical". I waited an hour or so for the unit to get "warmed up" and sure enough, batteries then showed as good. However, the app setup had two pretty bad issues. First, when specifying the tank size it insisted on showing up as liters only. It finally got reset back to gallons but then my tank size (325) was not an option so I had to choose 320. That's fine, the difference is negligible, but allowing us to key in a custom size would make for a better experience and would not throw off the app. The Second issue was that it asked me for my tank level, I put in 79% as it was just filled, but the app said No! It defaults to 5% less than what you put in. And you can't put in more than 80% so that meant I had to live with a reading that was immediately off. Why?? I sent in both issues to Generac and got a non-answer back on the latter. For the former, I was simply told 320 vs 325 is less than 1% so live with it. Yeah, but now my fancy new monitor is off by 6% before it has even started! After a few days, I was looking forward to seeing a graph of consumption etc. No such luck. The MobileLink app does NOT show you this. Knowing that this is a re-branded Tank Utility product, I simply installed that app instead and now I get my graphs. But really? Does it need to be this complicated? Generac seems not to know how to integrate acquisitions well. Ecobee, my former favorite thermostat, no longer has an open API and all of the features of my favorite app (not the original Ecobee app!) will probably stop working as they kill developer access. As it is, the app can't use the new features as there is no API available. I suspect the same thing will happen to this product as well :(.

Works as it should. Easy to set up

I should have done more research on this. It does work as stated and is fairly easy to setup and use. However it requires a 50.00 a year subscription to get ANY information from this device. It uses a cellular signal and only updates once per day at the same time you first set it up. You can change the time only by using the magnets to tell it to “update now”. You can not make it update on demand from the app. The whole magnet thing is weird also, but I guess it was it’s better than having a button that can leak. The readings take a while to show up in the app at times. I did reach out to their support number but was required to leave a message. No one ever called back, but I figured out my issues on my own. I like having the information, but had I known how it worked and about the yearly fee, i probability wouldn’t have purchased it. It’s not that far a walk to look at the gauge.

Great product for monitoring a remote propane tank. I had a slight problem setting up the sensor initially because my billing address was not the same as the physical location of the tank. I called customer service and they didn't know how to fix it at first and said they would send it up to their tech people. Within 24 hours they contacted me and had a solution and I was up and running. It has been performing flawlessly since then.

Does not have an ease of use. This product was not helpful for my Generec system.

Do not buy this!!! I bought it in March and they told me it would connect via the app that I got for “Free” when I bought a $10,000 generator. When it didn’t connect, they said you can use the website to monitor the fuel for now and an update in June will fix the monitoring on the app. Well it fixed it if you want to pay them $78.99 a year. What a waste of money!! Really I paid ten grand for a generator and you want to treat your customers this way, shame on Generac!! Check with your propane company. Mine offers remote monitoring and will even monitor it for you and come and refill when you hit a certain percentage that you set with them. They charge $75 a year for that, but after being suckered by Generac on this monitor, I’ll pay the local company and tell everyone else to do the same thing! If you want to monitor your level gauge ($23.99 on the website) and have a generator that you just want the basic, no charge monitoring, you have to have 2 separate accounts. What a hassle. This was the solution offered on their 1800 number call. I’d have to have the app on two separate devices to log into see my propane levels for $2 a month or pay the $79 a year. But another user says they also charged him $30 on the premium subscription if you want to use the app to see the $79 worth of data and not just the website. So $79 for the “premium subscription” but then you can only use it on the website, you then need a $30 a year subscription to the app??? Shame Shame Shame Generac. I would offer to mail this monitor back to you at my expense if you would stick it where I want you to…
