1. If the bracket or the extension rod is not tighten enough, you can use a wrench to strengthen it, but it will affect the rotation of the bracket. 2. Please be careful not to damage the rotating bracket, front windshield and dashboard when using the wrench.

Just a little over half inch not much for the ball joint

I don’t think so! Fully opened appropriately 4’’. I really like this holder without the extension on, the extension vibrates and doesn’t without.
