Phenoxyethanol is used in cosmetics as a preservative to prevent the growth of micro-organisms. This use is regulated in the European Union at a maximum content of 1%, which is considered safe for consumer health by the CSSC. However, the ANSM is questioning this based on the CSST report, which indicates that there is a risk if unrinsed products containing the substance are applied to babies' bottoms. It can cause allergic reactions.Studies suggest that repeated exposure causes developmental toxicity and has adverse effects on the blood, the liver and fertility. It may be involved in the disruption of the endocrine system, but further studies are needed. In case of contact, it may cause serious eye damage. It's also a petrochemical product and may contain traces of toxic components used in its chemical synthesis. It is of little concern for aquatic species. However, the manufacturing process is extremely polluting, as it requires a lot of energy (very high temperatures and pressure conditions) and uses highly toxic components

The only reason I give this product three stars is because one did not have the complete seal. I would have returned for a replacement except that the one bottle still had half of the seal it needed for me to feel comfortable that it had not been tampered with. How products are shipped should be critical to the company because customers have high expectations. The company could have done better. I give it three stars because I have appreciated the quality of their products.
