Built Like a Tank and Surprisingly Comfortable
The build quality on this knife is no joke — the D2 steel feels solid and holds its edge incredibly well. The handle has a secure, grippy texture that makes it comfortable to use for long outdoor tasks. The balance is on point, making it easy to control whether you’re cutting rope, prepping wood, or handling basic camp chores. The sheath locks it in firmly, so it stays put without rattling around. If you want a reliable fixed blade for camping or utility work, this one delivers serious value.

Exceptional build quality, balance, full-tang knife. Meh factory edge and sheath.
First, why this style of blade? I was looking for an EDC that reminded me of my grandfather's WWII Kabar Marine knife. I'm not going to use that for chores! I honestly did want the same style of knife, so that I felt the connection to him without carrying his irreplaceable knife. But I also wanted a knife that was truly useful, day in and out, and one sturdy enough to last. I feel like I hit the jackpot with the CS Leatherneck SF. PROS: -This Cold Steel Leatherneck has a full-tang. Better than the historic rat-tail Kabar, and more realistic, given how often I seem to use a knife as an impromptu prying tool. I can't imagine what would bend this blade. And I have been known to whack at things with the pommel, when it seems a long walk to get a hammer... -The Kraton handle material and shape is a huge plus. Wet or dry, hot or cold, I feel a great grip and control every time I pick it up. Honestly, easier to grip and control than the stacked leather of the original Kabar. -Handle size. I have big hands, it seems, and this handle fits me beautifully. Lots of knives feel small in my hand, but not this one. -Balance. I have used this knife for everything from cutting up boxes, slicing onions, prying apart crates, shaving down wooden shims, on and on, and I always feel I can control the longish blade. -D2 steel. Once I corrected the crummy factory edge, this holds its sharpness well. -Value. Comparing this to say a SOB Tech Bowie at almost three times the price, no question I would go with the Leatherneck again. At this price I can use it hard and not worry about it should I have to replace it. (More likely I would somehow lose it than break it!) CONS: This is the only Cold Steel knife I have ever bought that did not come shaving sharp. Seems strange, but it came paring knife sharp: forget shaving, forget paper cutting, it was dragging through cardboard boxes, etc. Two minutes of sharpening got it to 'kitchen sharp'--slicing onions with no effort, paper with a push to start. I haven't spent the time to make it 'danger sharp'--hair shaving, flesh slicing without effort. For everyday use, kitchen sharp is fine for me. -The sheath. The nylon snaps on the sheath were sewn so tightly that the snaps dug into the handle. It was stored for awhile after manufacture, so I have a knife with a permanent set of circular indentations in the soft Kraton. For EDC, not a big deal. But a ding on Cold Steel, for sure. I recommend this knife completely as an affordable, very well made full-tang Kabar clone. The full tang was the clincher, and I have sharpened enough knives that the crapola factory edge is a thing of the past. But the edge was not up to the standards of the old, pre-sale Cold Steel. Maybe you'll get one that's shaving sharp? UPDATE: I changed my review to 5 stars. Because I have more knives than I should, and I keep coming back to this Leatherneck. It feels just so--beautiful--in my hand. I can forgive the factory edge and mis-sewn sheath strap. This knife is a pleasure to hold and to use. The balance and handle and blade bring me back to it for tasks where a knife with a shorter blade would be easier to use. It is such a pleasure to hold and use! It is absolutely now my EDC.

Probably the best kabar clone/version I've seen, especially for the money
This knife has been through quite a bit, I've used it for batoning, chopping through sappy pine branches, feather sticking, being dropped several times edge down on concrete for testing. The D2 steel is probably the best way to go for a knife like this, and given that Ka-bars official D2 option is double the price of this I couldn't recommend it more. There is a few issues however, firstly the handle is made of rubber, which has amazing grip but will wear out eventually over time, not sure if it's something repairable but it may be. The clip that holds the knife on the frog is held by a single seam, which isn't confidence inspiring to say the least. Some pros- Edge retention is amazing Thicker tang that official Ka-Bar offerings Grip is solid, comfortable, and grippy. Scabbard holds knife very well, frog isn't amazing but not terrible. Some cons- Rubber handle will wear out over time single stitch to secure knife to frog finish isn't super durable, but definitely reasonable (Nitpick): The lettering is very bold and lacks subtly, not something that affects usability at all but just a little thing I don't love. Conclusion- I would buy this knife a million times again, it's priced insanely competitively compared to other options and never disappointed. Being dropped edge first on concrete and not even dulling a noticeable amount was a great plus. For outdoor or even tactical uses, this knife would perform great.

Great design. Incredibly sharp. The sheath is too tight fitting which makes it dangerous pulling it out of the sheath. Probably fine if you are wearing the sheath rather than holding it. Still giving it 5 stars because the knife is awesome.

DECENT KNIFE FOR THE MONEY
The first knife I ordered arrived with a loose guard, so I sent it back for a replacement. The replacement arrived and it was tight, but as dull as a PBS television special detailing the life cycle of a dandelion. This was the dullest knife right out of the box I have ever seen. Additionally, the symmetry of the cutting edge was not particularly good. I can correct these issues, but they never should have happened. Whomever is making these knives for Cold Steel is not doing a very good job in my opinion, neither are their quality control folks (if they have any). On the other hand, this is only a $60 knife, so perhaps one's expectations should not be too high. I read a review whereupon the writer wondered whether or not these knives are factory seconds. I do not believe this to be the case. CS marks these versions in a special way. I think the manufacturer just does not quite have its act together. The Leatherneck SF is Cold Steel's answer to the USMC KaBar. Imitation is the best form of flattery, and this knife is just a slightly beefier copy. It is so close in dimensions that it fits perfectly into my KaBar's leather sheath. The LSF is a nice-looking knife, having a classic KaBar design. The handle is a rubberized material and it does feel good in the hand. D2 steel is a good high-carbon metal that takes and holds an edge rather well. Being high carbon, it is prone to rust unless properly cared for. An occasional wipe down with some WD40, CLP or any good oil will prevent any issues. The blade itself is just slightly thicker than the KaBar, and feels very solid and sturdy. The tang of the LSF is full length and extra heavy, which helps with overall durability. While the sheath is okay for most general purpose needs, it's not something I would use for serious applications, such as the military. The kydex portion of the sheath is nice, but the nylon strap that connects it to one's belt is not very good. The knife will ride up when one attempts to withdraw it from the sheath. I recommend using an actual KaBar leather sheath or a nylon version made by Spec Ops. Professionals know that a knife is not a one-size-fits-every-job tool. Knives are designed to cut material softer than the metal from which they are made. They are not intended to be used as pry bars, hammers, axes; screwdrivers, etc, and Cold Steel clearly states this on the box. If you go into the field with only one knife, you are asking for problems. The key to survival in any situation is being prepared. Cold Steel has a reputation for providing a quality knife at a reasonable price, and the LSF is no exception. Once the knife has a good, sharp edge, it may well be a fine piece. It will definitely not be replacing my KaBars, but for the money, it's a nice blade.

Much Better Than the Old WWII One
This is not the first one I’ve bought. We already know how well built, sturdy, solid, and high-quality these knives are. 100% recommended.

Great Gifts
My cousins sons reached camping with the adults age. These are great little tanks of camping knives. The sheaths are a little cheap but they work fine until the boys learn to make their own. The blade holds an edge like you'd expect from D2. The full tang definitely will take more abuse than a kabar. The handle is comfortable enough for moderate use. It will do everything from light wood processing to food prep. Definitely on the large size for "bushcrafting" but good value general purpose 'camping' fixed blade.

What a gorgeous and exquisite knife. Absolutely perfect in every way. Nice heavy weight to it. Pommel, handle (except for the rubber grip) and guard are all steel as well so the pommel is essentially also a striker. The blade itself is gorgeous. All grind lines are symmetrical and clean and the edge came quite sharp as well. The sheath is just as great too as is typical with Cold Steel. Nice and tight and very secure and a clasp around the handle. I couldn't give this knife a higher score and I couldn't find any flaws or negatives if I tried. Cold steel is second to none when it comes to the quality of their products. I have several of their knives and they've never been anything short of incredible. Beautiful.

Cinco estrellas!!!
Cold Steel hace productos extraordinarios.
