James River BBQ Sauce (Pack of 4)

This BBQ sauce is a must for three way/north shore roast beef sandwiches AND everything else. Used on ribs along with some lightly heated for dipping and will never go back to any other brand tried. Or bother making my own. This is not a thick sauce but can be "doctored" for those who prefer thicker, thinning out already thick sauces rarely works out.

I ordered this because I grew up near Boston and ate countless roast beef sandwiches over the years and wanted that flavor for my grilling and cooking at home. I always wondered why most store-bought BBQ sauces were thicker and just didn't have the same flavor. What was this mystery sauce? Finally a friend recommended this, and you'll see MOST of the reviews reference the many roast beef shops in Boston's North Shore that serve this stuff - it does NOT disappoint. It's great with everything. It's got just a tiny bit of spicy kick, but I love it and I generally do NOT enjoy spicy foods or condiments. It is not as thick as something like KC Masterpiece or Sweet Baby Ray's, which is heavier on that brown sugar sweetness - this is more like a tangy, spicy ketchup, maybe not even as thick as Heinz 57. Think more like tomato soup. I love the consistency, it's better in marinades or glazes than the thick stuff. I made pulled beef sandwiches with this - forgettaboutit - but it's even great just to dip fries in or spread on your sandwich. I was reluctant to commit to a $30 purchase of 4 large jars of BBQ sauce, but let me tell you, this stuff goes fast. It's pricey, but it's some of the best stuff on Earth. And good luck finding it anywhere else besides Smithfield's site, which is the same 4 for $30 deal. Might as well stock up!

This is the sauces used by every famous roast beef place on the north shore of Boston. Including Kelly’s Roast Beef, the grand daddy of them all.

I found this product in my local store about 6 or 7 years ago. I bought as many as 10 bottles thinking I would have some for stash,well we had to many BBQ that summer and this product was a hugh hit. When the summer was over I went to restock my supply and the local store told me that they just couldn't keep it on the shelf because I had told all my friends about this sauce. Now the store has made a big bang with this product and the company has stopped selling it to the local store. You can get it here so buy many,so your not paying for shipping. Before you know it ,it gone in your frig and you want more . This is a great product. I use it in my pulled pork and also my roast beef sandwiches as a sauce on the side.
