First, we do not recommend its use with turtles, since it has never been tested on them, and they have skin that they can absorb chemicals through. Second, if the algae you are referring to is actually short like hairs, this is a beneficial algae called hair algae, and unless there is an overabundance of it, we do not recommend killing it all off.  It provides food for animal life, and helps to filter and balance the pond.  And last, it might be more cost effective, and healthier for your animal life to try barley straw pillows instead as this will help control algae in an all natural fashion and has been known to be very effective in properly maintained ponds. Thank you for asking! The active ingredients are: poly oxyethylene (dimethyliminio) ethylene (dimethyliminio) ethylene dichloride. These ingredients make up 5.4% of the formula. How long on average does it take to start working? Our pond is 125 gallons and pretty green right now. There's no visible string algae.

Hello SDB!This is a slow moving product, so it won't start clearing for at least 24-48 hours. However, give it a full 72 hours to do its job before deciding if you need a second treatment or not. If the pond is heavily stocked or has not had a recent partial water change, we recommend changing out around 25% of the water, and then applying a second dose.  Don't forget to check your filters and clean them out as necessary, and remove any dead algae from the pond to prevent oxygen loss and toxicity issues.
