can i connect a monitor to the camera instead of the phone or connect both monitor and phone?

It is wireless as far as transmitting the image to your phone. However, the camera has to be connected to your car's wiring.

Can you connect it to a 12volt battery in the trunk?

Yes, this camera can concect it to 12V battery, but we don't suggest. It is generally recommended to connect the reverse light power supply. Thank you.
