It works well to soften & moisturize leather, and (mine) didn't stink
I read several reviews saying that this product was rancid, and the stink ruined their leather. Neatsfoot oil is rendered from the leg bones of cattle, and is normally a very stable item if it's kept in a sealed container that blocks sunlight at normal room temperature. If it is allowed to sit open, in contact with air, moisture, high heat, or bacteria, then it will spoil. The bottle I received was NOT rancid. I'm building a guitar stand for my son's recording studio. We could have bought them ready-made cheaper, but they were just MDF junk wood with thin veneer laminations. We sprung for some good mahogany and rock maple, and used hand-cut dovetails for the joinery, with 5 coats of gold shellac, and they are spectacular. To cushion the base rails and notch-board (where guitars will rest), I ordered some nice black veg-tan strips of leather from Tandy. Nice leather, but stiff as a board. I rubbed two liberal coats of the Bickmore neatsfoot oil into the polished side of the strips, letting it soak in for 12 hours after each coat, then wiped off the excess and buffed it with a clean rag. The leather was significantly more supple and soft, and while there was a slight odor from the oil, it was not strong, unpleasant, or rancid in any way. Because the leather was already dyed pure black, I wasn't concerned about the normal darkening you get with this oil. I then applied a coat of Bick 4 (Bickmore's leather conditioner), let it dry for a couple of hours, and then buffed it out. Finally, I worked the strips hard, stretching them back and forth over a doorknob. They are now soft, and can be easily bent and bonded to the inside of the notches to cushion the guitar necks. If you aren't concerned about darkening your leather, this neatsfoot oil is the best stuff I've found to soften, moisturize, and protect stiff leather.

Worked incredibly well to restore severely damaged leather belts
I restored 3 severely damaged mens leather belts with this. They were severely cracked and unbendable. They were my husband's before he passed away 15 years ago. Now they are pliable and pretty. The cracks are still there but they are 80% softer than they were. I had used soaks of extremely toxic harsh chemicals to clean this leather prior to the oil treatment. Also 4 days of direct desert sun. Then the oil. I'm shocked. These will now be given to my daughters in honor of their father.

WILL darken light color leather/items
The actual liquid is good. The condition of the bottle WAS NOT. luckily, no spills in the delivery box. When I use this type of product, I pour some into a shallow container and use a shoe polish dauber/applicator. This allows you to get into all the places. I don't play baseball anymore but I sill.use leather work gloves that get stiff with sweat and I also wear leather pull on square toe boots. I used to work lawn care/landscaping/construction/roofing. If your hands and feet are not protected you will feel much worse when working in the elements. Always shake up the bottle and then pour out some liquid. This stuff will go on easy and just let it sit for a day so that the leather can absorb the liquid. After that you should be good to go. Take care of your leather and it WILL LAST a good long time. You might be able to buff a BIT of a shine but don't expect a high polish. Use a horse hair shoe shine brush to keep your boots clean. After a couple of days you can try a bit of shoe polish/paste. Again don't expect a high polish. The neatsfoot oil Is meant to Repel/ward off water and may not exactly waterproof your item. The more you use the neatsfoot oil the more it will absorb into your item and the more water repellent it becomes. Over a relatively short period of time(week-month) depending on your item, you will be able to get the stiffness out of it and the more comfortable it will feel. I do recommend this but with this advice, if you want waterproof boots look for the ones that have the waterproof tag. One other thing. This oil WILL DARKEN light color leather. And I do mean DARKEN to an almost black/Really dark brown. This stuff does work. SgtWall USMC

This restores & softens leather.
I bought this product to soften & restore my grandsons baseball mitts, my older belts & other leather products. My old belts are now more softer & newer in appearance. I'm certain it will work as well softening & renewing my son's & grandson's baseball mitts.

The Leather Items Are Holding Their Breath (Waiting for the Neatsfoot Oil)
The product was received intact and without any damage. It hasn't been used yet. Bickmore's 100% Pure Neatsfoot Oil appears to be a promising product for leather care and potentially as a wood finish. The description highlights its pure composition, free from petroleum distillates, suggesting a natural approach to moisturizing and conditioning leather. The added benefit of natural water repellency is appealing for protecting leather goods from the elements and prolonging their lifespan. However, the noted potential for darkening most leathers is an important consideration that would require a test on an inconspicuous area before widespread application. Being made in the USA adds to the perception of quality. Overall, based on the product description, this neatsfoot oil seems like a reliable option for leather maintenance, with the caveat of potential color change. This review represents my personal opinion and experience with this product. Great product, crappy shipping packaging
Got sent in a bubble mailer, got crushed in transit and leaked into said bubble mailer. Amazon really needs to box these. The oil itself is great.
