This young readersโ edition of Christina Baker Klineโs #1 New York Times bestselling novel Orphan Train follows a twelve-year-old foster girl who forms an unlikely bond with a ninety-one-year-old woman. Adapted and condensed for a young audience, Orphan Train Girl includes an authorโs note and archival photos from the orphan train era. This book is especially perfect for mother/daughter reading groups. Molly Ayer has been in foster care since she was eight years old. Most of the time, Molly knows itโs her attitude thatโs the problem, but after being shipped from one family to another, sheโs had her fair share of adults treating her like an inconvenience. So when Mollyโs forced to help an a wealthy elderly woman clean out her attic for community service, Molly is wary. But from the moment they meet, Molly realizes that Vivian isnโt like any of the adults sheโs encountered before. Vivian asks Molly questions about her life and actually listens to the answers. Soon Molly sees they have more in common than she thought. Vivian was once an orphan, tooโan Irish immigrant to New York City who was put on a so-called "orphan train" to the Midwest with hundreds of other childrenโand she can understand, better than anyone else, the emotional binds that have been making Mollyโs life so hard. Together, they not only clear boxes of past mementos from Vivianโs attic, but forge a path of friendship, forgiveness, and new beginnings. This beautifully written middle grade novel explores what it means to truly belong. An Unforgettable Coming of Age: Twelve-year-old Molly Ayer has been bounced between foster homes for years. When community service lands her in an elderly womanโs attic, she doesnโt expect to find someone who finally understands. A Powerful Orphan Train Story: Ninety-one-year-old Vivian was once an Irish immigrant orphan, sent to the Midwest on a train full of children, carrying secrets sheโs kept for decades. Two Timelines, One Shared Hope: The story alternates between Mollyโs life in present-day Maine and Vivianโs childhood journey, weaving together two lives in a tale of survival and resilience. Perfect for Mother Daughter Book Clubs: Based on the #1 New York Times bestseller, this young readersโ edition is an ideal pick for shared reading, sparking conversations about history, family, and what it means to find home. Review: Read Aloud with Grandkiddos - My granddaughter requested this book for her birthday, which I sent to her and also to two other granddaughters, all elementary school readers. From the first chapter, all of us were hooked. Each chapter ends with sort of a cliff-hanger, compelling us to keep on reading. Watching the characters develop, learning about orphan trains and the things Vivian had to do to survive was eye-opening for them, as they learned this novel is based in history. All four of us enjoyed this book, especially our time together reading. Review: A wonderful story. - I love this book!! It's a part of our history that most people don't know about.

Nice flow
I enjoyed Orphan Train Girl. It flowed nicely. The book tells the story of a young Irish girl who became a orphan after a terrible fire kills her family in the early 1900s. She rides the Orphan Train and is placed with a family and forced to work for them. Fast forward to present day, she tells her story to a young girl in foster care. The book switches back and forth between time periods, but it is done very well. There is never a confusion about what time period one is currently reading about. It just flowed perfectly. It was an easy read, but very satisfying.

Why this will change your life, even if you have read 100's of books....
You might be thinking what is so special about this train. Well first it was an orphan train for all the orphans at the Aid Sociaty program. Second there was a girl, during the 1900's, who lost her whole family in a fire and went to the sociaty. Another girl, Molly, in present day Maine is also an orphan, but is living with a family with foster care. Third there is an old woman and she is telling Molly what her life was about. Molly knows the old woman, Vivian, because she stole a book from the library and needs to do community service for 20 hours to clean out Vivian's attic. Molly finished cleaning the attic and her 20 hours of community service the same day. I recemmend this book to people who love historical fiction and those who don't. I personaly don't like historical fiction, but when I read this book it changed my mind. This book might changes yours too. (review written by 12 year-old daugher)

My grandmother could have been an orphan train rider
Loved this book and felt a connection with Nieve as my grandmother was a first generation American and considered an orphan because she had no father. Mary was raised by the N.Y. Founding Home but I believe that her mother's involvement kept her from being put on an orphan train. A well written tale of two journeys. I absolutely enjoyed every minute that I spent reading this book.

Excellent historical fiction
Love the reminiscing from the orphan train girl and how she helps a younger version of herself. Gives a good glimpse into the thoughts/life of a displaced child searching for a place to belong. Breaks your heart sometimes and gives you hope at times. Good read!!
