Worked as intended
Used as a sound deadener over an existing ceiling along with another layer 5/8 drywall. Doesn’t do great blocking all the impact noise, like footsteps on hardwood and doors closing, but definitely muffled neighbors' voices and music to a noticeable degree, except heavy bass tones. It worked as intended and I’m happy with results. Though it was a lot of work, stuff is heavy! It is expensive so you will have to decide if potential peace and quiet is worth it to you?

This is a great product
I had never worked with this type product before and after using 9 rolls, it's exactly what I needed. Although it's heavy, that's what I needed. I used this as one (1) of a four (4) layer subfloor in an older condominium (a soft layer, Soundsulate, 1/4" plyboard, engineered vinyl . The sound dampening was super helpful. The distributor was nice enough to refer me to the manufacturer for their feedback. I received a call back right away and the gentleman was very helpful as far as being a soundboard for usages and application. What they recommended is to not just take up the subfloor but to remove the baseboards as well and push the product under the drywall all the way to the 2x4 that is bracing the wall otherwise there is a gap that allows sound to go up into the walls and you're not getting the proper usage of the product. I also used a soundproofing calking around the edge next to the wall brace. Being new to this type of DIY job, I could not have had a better experience. With the lessons learned I would certainly use this product again but I would also consider a heavier pad. This does not stop structural noise, that requires going into the walls.... different project.

Very good product for automotive sound blocking
I applied this in my 2022 Ram 1500 Limited to isolate inside and outside noise. It was super easy to work with using a box cutter and drill bits depending on the situation. I shopped around and this was where I fell on value for my money compared to other MLV products. It's very workable and was highly effective in reducing road noise when applied to my inner doors, rear wall, and floor pan. I attached it using factory bolt locations. It did not come with any adhesive backing, etc. which I expected. I purchased some 3M spray adhesive, but decided to use factory bolts to hold it in place instead, so it would be easy to remove if I needed to service my inner doors in the future.

Good product but only get it if you need it.
So, mass loaded vinyl is heavy, cumbersome, and delicate. It tears easily, weighs a lot, and is difficult to install. That being said, it's good for reduced the sound in an area that's oddly shaped. This mass loaded vinyl does about the same work of sound resistant sheetrock. However, it's flexible and easy to cut, so it can be installed around utility lines, HVAC, and uneven beams (all of which I did). You will need industrial strength bonding agent, as it's too heavy to adhere with regular adhesives.

Smells bad
Smells bad and has extended period of off gassing. Installed in office 3 years ago in office and purchased in 2026 again to put into bedroom. Always smelled something foul in office and realized the odor was attributed to this product. Don't use product.

Great Buy! Far Exceeded My Expectations.
We live in a condo with a shared wall. On the other side of the shared wall are newborn twins. We love children, but during the night the crying was more than we can handle. Even worse, our bed is next to the wall. My wife and I were skeptical at first but decided to give MLV a try based on our research and positive reviews. The MLV arrived as expected. We nailed the MLV to the studs behind the existing drywall: caution – it is heavy! We used the recommended acoustic sealant around the perimeter being careful to cover all the gaps and outlets. We then covered the MLV with more drywall, again making sure everything was sealed. We learned from the installation instructions that sealing is key. We taped the drywall seams and painted. Today, you wouldn’t know that there was anyone living next door. Amazing stuff. We will be buying more.

Effective sound barrier
As much continuous coverage as possible is the key to success. My extremely noisy Prius C now has a quiet interior. I can now use the handsfree telephone features at highway speeds without cranking up the stereo volume to painfully loud levels while still straining to hear. Dismantling the interior of the car then covering every square centimeter with this material is a time consuming project and it is so worth the trouble. I feel like I drive a luxury vehicle now. I used this in conjunction with an 80 mil thick vibration dampening butyl rubber applied to the inside of the car’s metal body. Then the MLV goes over that. 10/10 would do again.

Perfect for Home Theater
My client wanted to enjoy his home theater experience without the entire house hearing it. If I had my way I would have put MLV b4 the drywall. But it did work well on top of the drywall. I was able to reduce the sound outside the room by 60%. I used roofing nails and a staple gun to Secure all the panels. You definitely want to have someone help you because the material has a little weight to it. To close all my seams I used a MLV tape. The other cool thing about the material I used every last piece of it. No need to waste any of it!!
