BJDesign Japanese Tatami Mat, Foldable Igusa Rush Grass Floor Mat Twin XL

I’m really happy with this tatami mat. The EPE core feels nice and firm, which makes it great for sleeping on a hard surface without feeling uncomfortable. The igusa mesh is breathable and has that fresh, natural smell that makes it feel really authentic. I also like that it’s easy to fold up and move around, so storing it or changing how I use it is simple. It’s thick enough to help block the cold from the floor too, which makes a big difference. Overall, I’d definitely recommend it if you want something comfortable, practical, and well made.

I love this mat and it smells like nature just came into your space to clean up the unnatural toxins. Beautify and comfortable and well worth the investment for health's sake.

I didn’t expect that the pieces are not entirely connected/stitched together. They are only connected in the two ends. I don’t know if these are strong enough to hold the pieces together. That’s my concern. Another thing is there the grasses do break and shed and they could be sharp so I guess if you have little kids then it would be another concern.

I was nervous to buy this tatami as it has less reviews than most others and some complained of the smell. The photos were also not that promising and I thought I was getting an extremely thin and low quality mat despite the price. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised that the mat has a very nice hay scent that fills the room when i open it or close it. It is lightweight and easy to set up and store. The color is pleasing as well. I found that it does make it more comfortable to sleep on my futon and helps a bit with the moisture that occurs under the futon as well. I have been enjoying making and putting away my bed and tatami daily and find it easy to clean with a vacuum hose. It is also very comfortable to sit on. Perfectly sized for my queen futon as well.

This is well made and is what it listed as being. They do mention the smell and say it is like: SMELLS LIKE FRESHLY CUT GRASS. They are not kidding. The smell permeates the room to a degree that is unreal. I cannot use it and had to return it because even though I have had it for almost a month, the smell will not abate.

Decent budget tatami but don’t expect high end item at this price point. Photos show very thin foldable tatami for this listing compared to my traditional tatami and second photo is side by side of weave. If you are on a budget this would be acceptable otherwise I would recommend going through a Japanese import store to get both quality. I was judgmental of reviews that spoke of the scent of this mat given that it is made of woven grass. That said, it does not quite have the same natural scent of my larger tatami and would recommend only to use in rooms with windows that open to air out. May be better once it airs a bit in a few months but definitely not the same nostalgic scent of my sturdier, non-folding tatami that I paid 5x the price for.
