Historic Charleston Matelasse Bedspread with scalloped edging
This bedspread is beautiful! More beautiful than the pictures reveal. It is a great value for the money and I do not reqret the purchase. I have a queen bed and would like it to have been just about 4" longer on the sides because of my bedframe. But still, I am very very satisfied with it. It does feel heavier than 10 lbs, great quality. Very little lint in drying it. It is very nice cotton and soft. I live in Texas, so cannot comment on warmth, but I am certain it will be very warm when needed.

Nice bedspread that can be used year-round
I wanted a traditional bedspread for my queen-sized bed. My bed sits high and the mattress is deep. I measured the bed from the floor, over the width of the bed and down to the floor again. The queen-sized bedspread wouldn't give me the coverage I wanted. However, the dimensions of the king-sized bedspread should work. Before washing it, I put it on my bed and it fit without the sides hitting the floor (which is what I wanted). But I went ahead and washed it, and dried it on medium high heat since it could do with a little shrinkage. Put it back on the bed and it fits great now. It didn't shrink very much, but enough. It's medium weight so I can be used year round if you like. And I like the South Carolina colonial themes. The pictures below were taken after I washed and dried the bedspread. The throw, shams, and decorative pillow were purchased separately from different retailers.

Perfect for me
This was EXACTLY what I wanted for my king-sized bed: a bedspread, NOT a coverlet, heavy enough but not TOO heavy, beautiful jacquard weave matelasse with a simple yet elegant pattern. I washed it before putting it in my bed and it took three cycles to dry, and it did shrink a bit, but I’m unconcerned; I’ve had a bedspread like this before, and it stretches from its dryer shrinkage after a few days. It’s a perfectly adequate size after shrinkage side-to-side (that’s where I expect a little stretching) and more that adequate top-to-bottom - plenty of room to tuck under pillows. I’m honestly delighted. The color is ivory and maybe a shade darker than I hoped, but similar to picture. I’m pleased with the price as well.

Great look, but like all others falls short in size for a king sized bed.
I searched all over and have for years, for a king sized spread or comforter that would actually fit a king sized bed. I ordered the sage colored bedspread rather than coverlet because it had a really nice look and had the largest measurements that I could find. It came in and I love the color and style. We washed it (took forever to dry) and put it in the bed. Looks great! Does it fit as shown...of course not. Does it cover the sheets and top of the bedskirt? Yes. I will add that I have a thick mattress, but not overly so, 12". The spread has a nice heft to it as well. Not super thin and cheap like so many. We've had it in our bed for probably just over a month and are very pleased.

Well made & beautiful.
Edit to my edit: I contacted Amazon about the spread shrinking & they were awesome! They sent me a new spread along with a shipping label to ship the original spread back, free of charge. I received the new spread before they received the one I returned. I couldn’t have asked for more. At least now I know to line dry it the next time it needs to be washed. I’m thrilled with this spread & more thrilled with Amazon’s customer service. Edit: When I wrote this review I had just gotten it & hadn’t washed it yet. I had to wash it this morning because my grandson got chocolate on it & did exactly as the instructions stated. It shrunk so much that I’m not sure it would fit a queen bed now. I’m not sure what to do because I spent so much money on the shams, regular & euro, as well as decorative pillows that I hate to buy a new spread & start over. Or do I buy this again & when I wash it hang it to dry. This spread is kind of colonial looking, not the look I was going for. But, I positively love it & don’t want to return. I’ll find a way to decorate my room so it doesn’t look quite so colonial. It’s just so pretty especially with the shams & decorative pillow. None of those things come with it. I purchased them all separately. It’s well made & very heavy. I take my spread off every night because of 2 little dogs who think the bed is theirs & they just let us sleep with them. But, if you can leave your spread on, it will definitely keep you warm. You may only need 1 additional blanket in the winter. The only thing I’m not too crazy about is even though it’s a king it’s not long enough on the sides. I could use a bed skirt, but honestly I hate them. I’ll live with being able to see under the bed. I added a picture so you can see for yourself. I just bought it & haven’t washed it yet. If I have an issue, I’ll edit my review. I gave it one star for light weight because it’s most definitely not light.

Quality
This is a high quality bed spread and a reasonable price. It is exactly what I felt I was ordering. The color is perfect.

Nice, but thicker & heavier than expected
This bedspread seems like decent quality, and it is pretty. But it is much thicker & heavier than I expected--thicker than other 100% cotton Matelasse bedspreads I've owned over the years (it seems difficult to find this sort of bedspread these days). I bought this to replace one that's a much lighter color that no longer worked as well in my new bedroom. This new bedspread is twice as thick and heavy as the old one. This really surprised me. It's much too heavy for summer. Also, a few reviews had said that this bedspread shrinks a lot. I have a queen bed and my old cotton Matelasse bedspread is a queen, but it's not quite as wide as I'd like with my very, very deep mattress (bedspread doesn't hang down all the way to the "dust ruffle" on both sides). So, I bought a king in this new Charleston bedspread for extra width, expecting it to shrink a little. When I washed it, it did not shrink at all. So, it's a little too wide for my bed. I washed on warm and dried on low, which is how I usually handle washing such items. But, maybe if I wash & dry on high it will shrink a little. Overall, it's a pretty good bedspread (and these things are kind of hard to find these days!), but the extreme thickness and heavy weight of this are simply unexpected for a 100% cotton Matelasse bedspread. I will have to wait until winter to use it. UPDATE: I washed again on hot and dried on high to try to shrink it. The bedspread held up fine, but did not shrink at all, as several reviewers had said theirs did when washed. So, it's still a bit too wide, and that's with my 18" tall mattress on a queen bed. Guess I should have bought the queen. I don't know why some people have significant shrinkage with theirs and I've had none!? The thickness and heaviness are definitely still problematic, though--it gets too hot. I think it'll be too much in winter, too. I wish I'd returned this before using it when I saw how thick and heavy it was. It still seems like good quality, but we've been using it less than 2 months (& 2 washes).

So Soft and Beautiful
I love this bedspread! It's oversized on a king bed, so soft, and feels really high quality. I only use cotton on my bedding because I hate static and have really dry skin. This is woven tightly enough that nothing snags and is very soft. Don't expect that slippery microfiber or polyester soft, but like a good natural fiber. Very smooth. The blue doesn't have any teal undertones like I was worried about and isn't too bright. It will take 2-3 dry cycles when you wash, but just keep cleaning the lint trap and untangling it between cycles. I had no issues when doing that. So glad I bought this, I really do love it!
