Boy does this stuff stink!
Still trying to get the smell out of the garage and off my hands. Did front and rear differential at 30-35k miles (since last changed) on a 5th gen Outback XT Limited a couple days ago. Daily driver, mostly commuting. The front takes about 1.4 qts plus a bit of waste and the back takes about 0.8 qts. This 5-quart bundle should thus cover two complete fluid changes. Looking at the old fluid, honestly it looked new, especially the rear, so I think it could probably handle a longer change interval. Be prepared for weirdness in fastener choices. I looked at about 5 different tutorials and saw 5 different combinations of fasteners. Ours has T70 Torx front drain plug (most sets don't go this large), 14mm bolt front overflow, breather/fill plug just pushes into place (passenger side under the intercooler). Rear is a 10mm Allen socket for the drain plug, 17mm bolt for the fill plug.

Donโt use cheap fluids like me!
I had used STP 80W-90 gear oil in my manual transmission and Mobil 75W-90 in the rear diff (2005 outback). After replacing many other parts, I decided to go the OEM route out of curiosity and wow. Smooth to shift into gear, easy to take off, no more rocking back and forth, no more noises and friction. I am appalled that I didnt trust the OEM fluids first.. Subaru has two engines. Of course they are going to perfect that formulation and they did it well. No complaints other than I was stupid and didnโt buy this first.

Appears to Be Genuine and a Good Value
Appears to be genuine Subaru gear oil! Five quarts seems to be enough for two (2) front and rear gear oil changes. Will buy again from this vendor.
