APEX ATR-RACK Ladder Rack (Adjustable Truck), 1 Pack

I bought this because I read reviews that this would fit my Nissan Frontier with the Nissan utilitrac system in the bed, and I didn’t want to drill into my bed. Not to mention this is about $100 cheaper than any other aluminum bolt on rack.I read it was roughed up in shipping, and it was true. I didn’t mind scratches or dings, but the metal brackets I pictured arrived bent. I could not insert the black supports without some bending with adjustable grips. I was able to get it to fit though, that’s my only reason for not giving it 5 stars.Install wasn’t bad. Took maybe an hour because of the utilitrac. I had to insert the “J” clamps between the tracks and bed then prop the rack on top to get it to work. Removal was 5 minutes if that, and to reinstall shouldn’t take long now that I have everything assembled to my beds dimensions.I purchased this to take 3 kayaks on a 7 hour trip each way to Gulf Shores. Worked great. Cruised at 80mph and the rack was not a worry at all.My other observation is with the black plastic triangles for the brackets, you cannot pull into a standard garage door opening, but with the brackets and no triangles you can. I have stock height and tires on my truck. But maybe your truck could.Overall, I would buy again.

After much research and deciding on how much I wanted to spend, I opted for this utility rack. However, the supplied hardware (some kind of angled j-bolt) will not and does not fit on any Toyota truck! Toyota uses a proprietary "utility rail" system which makes fitting anything non-OEM component onto the truck bed a challenge. Did I get it to fit on the truck? Yes, but after spending another $70 in assorted hardware between Amazon and the local big box hardware store. In retrospect, I should have bought the model specifically fitted for Toyota.Other than fitment, the rack itself is constructed of aluminum and arrived undamaged. It's rough around the edges and if you're handy with a grinder on aluminum you should be able to smooth out the sharp corners. This rack will probably be great for the non-Toyota owners but I recommend passing on this if your truck is a Tacoma or Tundra with utility rails.

I installed this rack on my 2014 F-150 with a 6.5ft bed. As others have reported, the packaging was very poor and I was concerned that some hardware might be missing because it was all strewn around throughout the items in the box. Thankfully nothing was missing! After completing the installation, all that was left to do was tighten the load stops in the location that I wanted but found that the hand knob wouldn't tighten enough to secure them in place. This was due to the hole in each one not being large enough for the shoulder of the carriage bolt to protrude through and allow the head to squeeze the slotted track. To my dismay I had to disassemble the crossbars to slide the load stop bracket off and drill the hole larger. Other than that inconvenience I am very impressed with the quality and look of this rack on my truck, and can't wait to start hauling kayaks and canoes on it! I hung on the bar and yanked in all directions and found it to be very secure and sturdy. This rack was much less in price than others with less weight rating and I found it to be an excellent value. As a side note, I was pleased to find that my Yakima J rack clamps on perfectly, but if you choose to protect your boat with foam pads that pop onto roof rack crossbars you will need to shop online for ones made specially for extra wide racks.

I installed this on my truck yesterday primarily to haul two 10-1/2 foot kayaks when I'm pulling an RV. Together, the kayaks only weigh about 120lbs so I'm well within the 800lb rating of this rack. I was impressed with the quality of the welding, its the first thing that I noticed out our the box. I also liked the idea that the rack is clamped on to the bed rather than bolted through like some of the others. Although I can see where bolted on racks would have an advantage for much heavier loads than what I would ever carry. Clamping the racks in place did present a little bit of a challenge because my 2014 Ford F150 has a full factory bed liner. The mating surface of the J hook clamps lacked about a 1/16 of an inch of freely clearing the bed liner material and the inside edge of the truck rail. I had to maneuver the hooks in place first before setting the vertical posts down on the truck rail...a process that required 3 arms, lol. Once I had everything in place though, the rack seemed quite rigid and I think its going to work great for its intended purpose. Now that its installed, I'll take a dremel tool and cut away the plastic on the bed liner, under the truck rails, that was casusing the interference. This will give me an extra 3/16" or so of space and make it much easier to remove and reinstall the rack in the future. Its won't be a cosmetic problem either since the bed material that has to be removed is up under the track rails. I've given 4 stars, not because of the liner issues, but because I haven't actually used the rack yet. I'll update after our camping trip next week.

I installed this on a 2015 chevy silverado 1500 short bed. I had to trim some of the plastic retainer tabs from the plastic side rail caps to make room for the vertical rack brackets which attach to the bed rails. After this was done the install went pretty smooth until I had to attach top rails to vertical rails. The vertical support rails were a little off kilter and did not match up flat with the bottom of the top rail which made attaching the bolts to secure the top rail hard to fasten. I would recommend leaving the vertical brackets loose until you attach top rail the snug everything up.Otherwise product is heavy duty and im impressed how sturdy it feels. I dont think Id load 800lbs on it but I would feel comfortable up to 400lbs.Good rack for the money.
