A healing guide for adult daughters raised by a narcissistic mother. Growing up with a narcissistic mother can leave deep emotional scars. Many adult daughters of narcissistic parents remember feeling invisible, constantly criticized, manipulated, or made to doubt their own reality. If your childhood revolved around your mother’s needs while your own emotions were dismissed or invalidated, you may still struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, people-pleasing, and a harsh inner critic. In Adult Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers , a psychologist and expert in narcissism offers practical, evidence-based tools to help you recover from the lasting effects of narcissistic abuse and toxic family dynamics. Drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), this guide helps you understand how growing up with a narcissistic parent shapes your self-image, relationships, and emotional patterns, and how to reclaim your sense of self. In this book, you’ll learn how to: Recognize the impact of growing up with a narcissistic or emotionally abusive mother Quiet the critical inner voice created by childhood manipulation and shame Reduce anxiety, insecurity, and self-doubt rooted in toxic family dynamics Set healthier boundaries with controlling or self-absorbed parents Build trusting relationships without repeating painful patterns Stop blaming yourself for your parent’s behavior and reclaim your confidence Through compassionate guidance and practical exercises, this book offers a clear roadmap for healing from the emotional wounds of childhood and building a stronger, more authentic life. If you were raised by a narcissistic or toxic mother, you may have spent years feeling dismissed, rejected, or responsible for someone else’s emotions. This guide will help you break free from those patterns, trust your own voice again, and begin creating relationships―and a life―that reflect your true worth. You cannot change the past, but you can heal from a narcissistic parent and move forward with strength, clarity, and self-trust. Changing your thinking and behaviors
Great book, concise & well written. Anecdotes are short and important to each chapter to ensure understanding of concepts. Requires some time to pause and think and do very short written activities. I’m changed.

Some Things to Consider in Your Adult Life!
I've read nearly all the main book on narcissistic mothers and this one had some good points but I did not generally relate to most of it for some reason. The mothers I know are not this type of narcissist. The book I related to more was Narcissistic Mothers by Linda Hill so you may want to read that too. This book has some coping skills which are good. There is a section on boundaries. The part about whether your mother is a grandiose or vulnerable narcissist is helpful to figure out for further reading. So if your mother is/was more destructive this book may interest you. If your mother just brags and is annoying this book is far more complex and deals with much more damaging issues. ~The Rebecca Review

really helpful.
This book has validated feelings that I could not put into words for such a long time. It’s really nice to be seen and completely understood, for once. Thank you!

Very helpful and informative!
This is the best book I’ve read on this subject to date. It’s the most comprehensive and detailed, with interactive sections that are very helpful for this troubling topic. Highlights recommend..

There are better books on this subject
Some of the book was validating but the advice on how to deal with a narcissistic mother is lacking. And what is included directly contradicts other (better) books on the subject. Such as letting the other person know you want to have a conversation and expressing your thoughts and feelings. I would recommend Stop Caretaking the Borderline or Narcissist by Margalis Fjelstad if you want to learn how to actually deal and communicate with narcissists. You will learn in Stop Caretaking the Borderline or Narcissist that there is no reasoning with a narcissist and you should not try to converse or reason with them because they are not rational. You simply set your boundaries and do it, you do not need a conversation (which almost always leads to another outburst from the narcissist) or their approval to take care of yourself. If you just want validation and not much else, this book is ok, but not great.

If you think you have one, you probably do! Just get it and read it! By page 2 I knew it would be helpful!

Know the enemy
Motherhood is quite often a fabricated fairytale. The reality is often an abusive nightmare. So great to learn the facts.

Gracias

A must read if you think or know your mother was/is a narcissist
This book should be a mandatory read for any daughter who grew up with a mother who is narcissistic. The insight you will gain into the dynamic that you have lived with your whole life will have lightbulbs going off. It will provide you with aha! moments that will finally bring clarity, understanding and relief. It is truly a terrible thing to have a mother who is a narcissist and this is only now starting to be recognized in our society today and it is people like the author, Stephanie M. Kriesberg, PsyD, who are making that happen. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent book for every mother and daugher - not only if narcissism is in play
A great book, not just for daughters with narcissistic mothers, but for all mothers and daughters. Because whether narcissism or not, this book shows mistakes that mothers can make, even if they are not or only on the lower end of the narcissistic spectrum. It describes mistakes that are easily overlooked, but can do great damage to our children - especially our daughters. What I particularly like, and what sets this book apart positively from most other books on the subject, is that it eschews cheap "mommy bashing." It is shown how one can set boundaries and heal, but at the same time also develop understanding for the mother, where understanding does not mean acceptance! Even though I don't count myself on the narcissistic spectrum - I wish I had read this book when my daughter was young. I would have been a better mother. Every mother and every daughter should read it. Great book! Not only if narcissism is in play.
