switch has 2 black wires 1 is ground 2one ?

If you have the old switch there should be markings next to each of the terminals just as the new switch has. You should be able to match the wires up one by one with those terminal markings. If you have a year make and model of what you are using this switch for I might be able to find a wiring schematic for it also. Hope this helps.

Will this work for a 1974 Johnson 115?

Not sure, ours is a 98 Johnson. Worked for us. But we took the old one out to get the part number off before we ordered.

Will this work with a 1972 v4 100hp outboard ?

Your engine isn't the issue.....this is a part for the control box. If you have an OMC/BRP control box from 1977 to 1995, it will fit. If not, it won't. I suppose it is possible your control box is newer than your engine, but if this is the original box, the switch won't work. It fits tightly into a slot with lips in the control box and must be connected to some short wires inside the box, so I doubt it could be adapted. Go to Marine Engine and look up the proper part number for your control box.
